V

I'm thinking about buying V - the miniseries, I remember seeing it here as a teen. No I was looking at the playing time of the DVD, and it strikes me as odd that it only should be 197 Minutes. I seem to remember that it occupied 3 videotapes at the time.... is ist the full series with each episode separate on the DVD or is it some abdridged version, amalgamated into one movie?

V the miniseries was two tapes.
V the Final Battle was three tapes.

The miniseries features the complete uncut first two parts. The Final Battle when it comes out will have the other three episodes.

Pick it up, it's an awesome DVD.

The disc is only the first mini-series which was two two hour episodes. The next disc should be the next mini-series which was three two hour episodes. Minus out the commercial time and the running time you stated should be correct.

It basically just ends with the Visitors/Aliens having taken control of the planet and the very last thing you see is an old guy showing some kids how to spray paint the letter V on a Visitor poster. It's worth getting (just found out it was on DVD earlier today and can't wait to go buy it) and I'm sure the second part will be out soon enough.

V actually ends with the Resistance sending a message out into space I thought. It ends with a Resitance member spray painting a V on a black door. If that was the ending, then the miniseries isn't all there.

First of all, thanks to all the people who welcomed me already... every seems pretty friendly here.

Anyway, I don't have the disc yet... and I understand what you are saying about flipping it over, but they were actually two miniseries, and that is the second part I was talking about. Hopefully I'll get a copy in the next couple of days, it just heard it was out a couple days ago and was already bugging the people I work with asking them if they had seen it. Those who had liked it and those who haven't are going to have it forced upon them by me as soon as I'm done watching it...

Anyway, thanks again to everyone for the welcomes.

Wasn't the message into space from V: The Series (not V The mini series or The Final Battle)

V The Original was made in 1983
V The Final Battle was made in 1984
V The Series (19 episodes) was made after the Final Battle (late 1984?)

V: The Original Miniseries does end with the old man spraypainting a V on a visitor poster. The Final Battle picks up after that.

V (1983) = 197 minutes
Part 1 (106 minute .. shown on TV in a 2½ hour period)... it ends with the old guy spray painting V onto the poster.
Part 2 (91 minutes ... shown on TV in a 2 hour period) = Ends with Julie and Elias sending out a message in space and Elias spray painting V onto the black door.

V: The Final Battle (1984) = 268 minutes
Part 1 (88 minutes ... shown on TV in a 2 hour period) = Ends with Julie getting brainwashed.
Part 2 (90 minutes ... "") = Robin having her "alien" baby.
Part 3 (90 mintues ... "") = Ends with Julie, Mike, Robin's baby (now a full grown kid), Martin, and the blond chick going home.

V: The Series (1984 - 1985) = 18 episodes

I don't want to upset anyone, but the series after Final Battle was badddd. They ran out of story so each week, they killed another character off. When they killed Elias, I refused to watch anymore.

I wonder if the series will ever come out on DVD... or tape even. I'd like to see some of it again, even if it is bad. I only vaguely remember one episode and the fact that I was pissed off when it was canceled. If I recall correctly, it was on on Fridays nights.....

Yep Fridays. The Sci-fi channel was re-running it a few years ago, and it was cool to see it after all those years as bad as it was.

Does anyone remember the episode with The Leader of the Visitors? You're expecting a Hitler type and you get a guy that looks like George Michael or something.

I was making my wish list of DVDs to get and I forgot to add this one. I'll do that right now ...... okay, I'm back. That would be a cool DVD to have. I haven't seen the mini-series in years. Hope it's as good as I remember it being. And who could forget Freddy Kruger as the goofy good alien?

I haven't seen V since it was first broadcast, and having watched the DVD, I've got to say that it holds up extremely well. The production values are excellent for a TV movie, especially since they had no access to CGI or any other modern wizardry. Some of the dialogue is a bit corny, but it works overall and comes off much better than the cartoony schlock-fest that ID4 turned out to be. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

ID4 cannot be compared to V. ID4 was an action movie. This was more thought provoking.

Sure it can. Both are about aliens who come to destroy Earth for their own benefit, and humans who put up a united resistance. The fact that ID4's makers depended on flashy FX to tell their story doesn't make it different, just weaker.

In response to someones earlier question, the V series (not the miniseries) has been released in probably its entirety here in Australia, most likely the UK as well.

It puzzles me why the UK (and, in turn, Australia) gets video releases of US shows far quicker than the US does. Well, it doesnt puzzle me, I know why, but its still pretty weird.

But not as weird as the country that creates Farscape not showing the damn thing here!! Whoops, rant mode accidentally turned on there...

I finally got around to watching this disc with the commentary, and I have to say "well done" to Kenneth Johnson. It's thoughtful and lively, it gives a lot of insight into Johnson's work as both writer and director, and it's obvious that he put a lot of effort into making it. This is the way commentaries should be done.

I know there are plans to release V: The Final Battle.
Are there plans to releae the episodes from the series as well?

Also, someone mentioned Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger), too.
Does anyone kow if thee are any plans to release the episodes from "Freddy's Nightmares" on DVD? I know that most of them were dumb, but my friend's and I would come home after a night of just hanging out driving around (looking for girls)and watch the show and laugh our *sses off.
