SD-DVD and HD-DVD Titles

Hello all,

I was curious about the double sided HD-DVD. What I am really wondering about is the special features for these discs and how they are burned. I have considered starting to buy HD-DVD for their SD side and then when I upgrade I will be all set. What I wonder is to the they just burn the regular DVD release on one side of the HD-DVD disc? And in turn, if the SD-DVD was possible a two disc, would I only be able to enjoy those features once I got my HD-DVD player?

You would only be able to enjoy the features on the SD side. Features like U-Control (on the HD side) would only be accessible with a HD-DVD player.

If the SD release is 2-discs, the extras contained on the second disc are not on the SD side of the combo release. Take the recent release of The Departed. The SD side is basically the first disc of the 2-disc set (or the single disc release). The extras are only on the HD side. Now, with a film that received only a single disc release with extras, like Children of Men, all of the extra features from the SD disc are on the SD side as well as the HD side. The HD side also has the HD extras (such as U-Control).

It is pretty much what I thought. I think I might start doing this. I could live with out features on certain movies for a while at least. Thanks for the reply.

No problem. That's what I've been doing for a few months now with the releases that have been put out as combos that I've been interested in. I know I'd hate the combos if I already had an HD-DVD player, but I love the idea of them at the moment since I don't have one quite yet.
