V: The Final Battle....when?
I just picked up the original miniseries, and I was wondering if anybody had heard how far behind "The Final Battle" would be?
Miniseries always bugged me, because I'd have to wait until the next night to catch the next installment....but waiting for months? That's gonna suck. ------------------ Sean What if there were no hypothetical questions? |

I don' think I've heard anything about "The Final Battle" even being produced yet. I sympathize though. That was always my favorite of the two. I would guess that they're taking a "wait and see" attidtude w/ the sales of the first set before deciding anything. How is the set BTW?

The image quality is quite lush and clean, but I'm not quite sold on the letterboxing yet (never thought I'd hear myself say that sentence...). I compared the 1.85:1 image on the DVD with my open matte VHS recording of the miniseries. The DVD provides a minute amount of extra image on the left-right sides of the frame, but cuts a healthy portion of the image at the top and bottom margins from what we saw on TV originally. I realize this transfer was supervised lovingly by creator Kenneth Johnson, so I'll have to default to his wisdom but, while some shots look more cinematic from this new framing, other shots seem a little cropped and/or claustrophobic. I was also under the understanding that there were to be more extras (original TV trailers would have been sweet), but all things considered, this is a pretty nice piece of work and I'm utterly pleased to own it!

I don't have anything to compare it to, but some shots do seem a little "claustrophobic", as Filmmaker noted.
That said, I am quite pleased with this presentation.....even the soundtrack sounds pretty good. ------------------ Sean What if there were no hypothetical questions? |

I remember reading in Widescreen Review that V: The Final Battle was supposed to be released the same day as the miniseries, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I loved this series when it first aired and I'm so happy that it's on DVD. Great story, good acting, and the lady who plays Diana has never looked better. ![]() |

"V" certainly didn't receive a theatrical release in the UK, it was shown on our commercial station ITV. Interestingly, "V" and "V: The Final Battle" ran back to back over here, creating the much-touted "ten hour mini series"...

I just got the miniseries over lunch hour and popped it in to do a quick inspection... what a beautiful transfer!! Does anyone know if this was filmed in Panavision? The image seems to have that luscious soft "glow" around the edges that is so nice in Die Hard and Superman. It's really thrilling how well an older film can hold up when it's transferred well... old film definitely has that certain "look," but it's really not unappealing at all, and the resolution and lack of chroma noise on the DVD really allows appreciation of its aesthetic qualities, to me.

i'm only 24 and was like 7 when this was first on tv, so i have alot of friends that have not even heard of this one, so i like to sit them down to watch the first part and not tell them anything about it, the opening scene is just long enough to make you think that you know what the movie is going to be like and who the main characters will be, the war in south america is going along, stuff is blowing up, them WHAM!! ... Flying Saucer! i love the looks of confusion on their faces as the rug gets pulled out from under them. ------------------ I'm just not used to being chased around the mall in the middle of the night by killer robots. -Linda, Chopping Mall |
