Event Horizon SE is inevitable now.

it will probably be announed within the next couple of weeks since i just picked up the featureless disc, a little overpriced at $27.99, but ive been putting it off for a long time waiting for an SE.
it happened with Basic Instinct and Total Recall. Maybe i should go out and buy the whole star trek movie series and then SEs can be announced!

That has happened to me a couple of times when I bought Boogie Nights, Army of Darkness and The Road Warrior (Was the rumor of the SE just bullshit?).

But I'm actually feeling a little confident that a certain trilogy will be out soon since I just bought it on ebay, so a better one has to come out, right?

Perhaps you should. Martyr yourself for all our sake.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the one...And Lord knows, I'm not buying any of 'em until they're at least anamorphic (I'm trying to buy fewer DVDs and save that moolah up for a widescreen tv.)

Well, we are talking about Paramount....and they've not really jumped on the SE bandwagon yet, so I think you're safe... for a while.

Well, the difference between EVENT HORIZON and the other titles you mentioned was that the former is such a thoroughly awful film, the studio would have to be clinically insane to waste the time making a special edition out of it, so we're probably safe...

While off topic I have to agree, Event Horizon was a pitiful movie. I remember people groaning at the end and walking out of the show very pissed off.

It had good visual effects, and good production design. The ship itself looked amazing. It's fun to watch Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne draw a paycheck. But between that film, and Soldier: Paul Anderson can't make movies.

I have this title on LD and it has an AC-3 audio track, so it sounds great.

Will the video transfer of the new SE be improved over the current DVD?

I've been happy with my LD which is why I have not purchased the DVD.

Peace.....

I actually enjoyed this movie, and it is high art compared to Soldier. I'd love to see an SE, but knowing Paramount, it could be awhile. Sam Neill makes the movie.

I agree with those that think Event Horizon is a pitiful film. The blood and gore didn't bother me at all. But, the way it dealt with Hell and the way people on board had been tortured was a bit too much for me.
I think it was too much like Hellraiser or something (which I don't like either).

The only reason I really even saw it was because of Sam Neill. He is a great actor but I wish he didn't play in this rubish.

I think Event Horizon is one of those films that can be revisted for SOME value for some. I thought there were certain aspects of it that were well done, others not. Just like Pitch Black-some good attempts at certain parts. However, I was just watching Supernova on cable and it was even worse than when I saw it the first time, right down to the swapped eyeballs. I think House on Haunted Hill had a lot of good ideas but didn't execute them very well-also forgettable characters. It also suffered from the Hollywood 2-similar-movie release syndrome, and since Haunting sucked, it must too(although both had good trailers).

Pitiful? Waste of time? Thouroughly Aweful? i have watched it 3 times now, once in the theater, once on video and one on dvd and i was totally freaked every time. i do not scare at all easily but i consider this one of the scraiest movies every made. there are only 6 movies that i have actually been scared while watching (and i wish there were more). i'm not talking a BOO! and i jump, that happens every once in a while, i mean long periods where i am freaked out and actually intensly involved in the film terrified as to what will happen next:

The Game
Nightmare on Elm Street 7
Jaws
Alien
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
and Event Horizon

no one else thought that Event Horizon was a freaky scare-fest?

I have it on LD too. Picture and sound are exellent.

Waste of film though. Horrid movie. I even sat down and watched it again after reading that some people actually liked it. Nope. Didn't help.

Total waste of a lot of good actors and great set design.

esc, though I don't share your affection for EVENT HORIZON (not even if I was drunk), may I recommend that you try out the HELLRAISER series? Another group of films without a single merit, in my book, but EVENT HORIZON borrows from them stylistically to a blatant degree (along with several other films, too numerous to list), so if EVENT HORIZON gave you the creeps, I don't see why the HELLRAISER films wouldn't have the same effect...

this is one of the few movies that actually scares me... watch it on a big screen, big sound... BY YOURSELF in the dark late at night... hehe

I remember going to this in the theatre with some friends, then taking my gf and grabbing her whenever a scary part happened... LOL she wouldnt talk to me for days

I thought it was thoroughly scary. My friend told me beforehand that it wasn't scary (he had seen it before), but he was the one shaking in his seat! Hahahaha.

It did give me the creeps for a day or two afterwards, but that was mostly due to the bizarre and disgusting imagery (that video they find...sick!). Still, a good sci/fi / fantasy / horror flick, enjoyed on a dumb level.

I agree with those of you who thought this movie was scary as hell. This is one of the few movies that scared me in the past few years. I saw it one night on HBO and didn't think it was all that scary, just creeepy and disturbing. But after it was over and I turned off my light, that is when it scared me. The second time I saw it, it scared me even more. It is by no means a perfect movie, but I think it delivers the scares. Take a look at the video from the former crew ripping their faces off and shit and tell me that didn't creep you out.

I just watched it again on HBO. It wasn't that bad really. I mean it's not sci-fi intellectual faire but it's decently scary.
It could have been much more. Definitely not a keeper especially bare bones.

I had to chime in, even though I'm a bit late. This is one of the few movies that had me genuinely scared as well. Actually so much that I haven't dare buy the DVD
The reasons for that are also twofold, there have been other movies as well that have scared me on the first wieving, but bored me afterwards, I kind of do not want that to happen with this movie... I agree with the poster that said the scariest thing was the threat of Hell, but I guess whether that scares you or not also depends on your personal wievs.

Being compared to Hellraiser is not a bad thing IMO, that is one of the other movies that scare me.

"We have such sights to show you!"
