In Bruges

Pronounced; En Brhoojh

I just saw this last night upon Richard Roeper's recommendation. It was his pick for the best film of '08 so far. I think its a buyer for me (on plain old DVD even!). It was quite an excellent little film that never went where you thought it was going to go and after everyone figured out it was a comedy, we were all laughing pretty hard.

Video: 9.0/10
Audio: 7.5/10
Extras: 8.0/10

The video was excellent for a 'indie film' DVD with tons of facial detail, costume detail and background detail in all of the streets and building of Bruges. There were very few artifacts throughout the film and the video did not get a 9.5 out of 10 as the picture got just a little soft in parts. Blacks were awesome.

The audio was quite good, but got a little muddy in places as voices dropped down to mumbles. Sometimes this was intentional and other times I'm sure it wasn't.

All in all, great disc, great picture. Be sure to rent it.

Watching this tonight.

I missed in the cinema like three times in a row because of my stupid job. But, thanks to the magic of DVD, I shall finally get to see it.

I enjoyed the film. Farrell and Gleeson play like a violent, Irish Laurel and Hardy. The film was a tad too derivative in places--Fiennes character was really just a watered-down version of Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast--and they overcomplicated the narrative with unnecessary coincidences that stressed the limits of believability, but overall I thought it was a funny, entertaining and, at times, even thoughtful film.

I have to somewhat disagree about the video, though. I noticed several instances of artifacting, and some pretty bad EE in a few places.
