Star Wars or Star Trek DVD?

Which DVD are you more looking forward too. TPM for me, definatly. Even though I've seen it dozens of times, I really can't wait for it.

Probably STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE (I've always really loved the film, in spite of others' more-often-negative thoughts)--I look forward to having the complete movie set, and seeing how this unrecognized classic has been fine-tuned into ultimate form. THE PHANTOM MENACE would definitely be nipping at TMP's heels, though...quite frankly, I'll be ecstatic to own both...

Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part...

A curious mix of the best and worst in motion picture entertainment--that's right, it's Filmmaker's DVDTracker list!
...and the fun doesn't stop there--check out how the madness all began with Filmmaker's LaserDisc Tracker list!

Star Trek, no question. I've always enjoyed those stories more than Star Wars, and I'm really looking forward to seeing a clean, clear print of this film and the goodies they're packing into the disc.

Funny thing about Phantom Menace -- it was playing in a local store the other day (they've had it for about a week now) and during some fairly active scene I started to get the bug. Then Jar-Jar appeared and I thought "then again..." I know the issue's been beaten to death, but to me that character is like fingernails on a blackboard. I may hold off and see if I can get a used copy of this disc.

Trust me -- I know what I'm doing.

As far back as I can remember, I've been an equally huge fan of both original Star Trek and Star Wars. While many people fight and argue over which is better, I choose to enjoy both by avoiding comparisons.

In this case, I'm looking forward to Star Trek TMP much more because it's going to be a new cut, and because I really love this movie. EXTREMELY underrated IMO, and I loved the climax.

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.

Of the Star Wars movies, only the first one will be a purchase for me (by the first one, I mean the 1977 one). PHANTOM MENACE is about as watchable as a "New Scooby Doo Movie". And the only STAR TREK film I liked was WRATH OF KHAN, and not nearly enough to buy it.

Just FYI--STAR WARS, EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE will actually be a new cut, as well, with approx. three minutes of restored, never-before-seen footage...

I didn't know about that. I was under the impression that the ST TMP dvd has a more extensive renovation, which is why I'm looking forward to it more.

Hmmm ... very difficult question ... I would have to say ST TMP because I'm curious to see how Wise's vision differs from the cut that was released (and I really hate jar jar ). That said, Phantom Menace promises to be cool as hell! -Fortunately I can own them both.

Hey I want both. There is absolutely no reason why you must like one and hate the other

No need to choose anything.

Yes, it goes without saying that the ST:TMP restoration and re-edit is more extensive (and part of why I'm eager to get it in my sweaty mitts), but I was just trying to say that, strictly speaking, both DVDs feature new cuts of the films in question.

I'm not a Trekkie (although there were a few episodes of the series I liked), and I love SW. That basically narrows it down for me.

Well I like both Star Trek and Star Wars. And I'll be buying my copy of Phantom Menace on Tuesday. However, ST:TMP is just too slow paced my taste, so I'll just rent this one and check out what they've done.

Well I like Trek, mostly the newer stuff, I watched a lot of the Next Generation marathon on TNN last week. I prefer the movies over the shows, because they have a bigger budget and it shows, plus I like the Movie era Enterprise and the Enterprise A. Although I do like First Contact, and Insurrection more than the Kirk and Co movies (I LOVE THE ENTERPRISE E .) I recently picked up all but Insurrection on VHS in widescreen for 40 bucks still in the shrinkwrap, ill keep em till they release SEs of all of the movies, then I can put them in the closet to make room for more DVDs .

There's nothing wrong with G rated movies, as long as they have lots of sex and violence.

I Think I'd Rather Purchase SW: TPM Just Becuase I'm More A Star Wars Fan Than A Star Trek Fan. My Dad Would Probably Enjoy The Star Trek DVD More Though. He's Been Watching Since The First Episode Ever Aired.
