What is your favorite Midnite Movie?

Here are the current/soon to be released ones that I know of. This is the list.

1. The Abominable Dr. Phibes

5. Dr. Goldfoot & the Bikini Machine
6. The Beast Within
7. Beach Blanket Bingo
8. Planet of the Vampires
9. "X"- The Man with the X-ray Eyes
10. Invaders From Mars
11. Die, Monster Die!
12. The Man from Planet X
13. Donovan's Brain
14. The Monster that Challenged the World
15. It!- The Terror from Beyond Space
16. The Island of Dr. Moreau
17. The Dunwich Horror
18. Count Yorga- Vampire
19. Twice Told Tales
20. Theater of Blood
21. Mars Needs Women!
22. Killer Klowns from Outer Space*
23. The Thing with Two Heads
24. Attack of the Puppet People
25. Village of the Giants
26. Reptilicus

28. I Bury the Living- soon to be released
29. The Angry Red Planet- soon,,,
30. War Gods of the Deep- soon,,,
31. The People that Time Forgot- soon,,,
32. Strange Invaders- soon,,,
33. Morons from Space!- soon,,,
34. The Wild Angels
35. At the Earth's Core- soon to be released

That is all I know of as of yet. Remember that Tales of Terror doesn't really count because it isn't an "official" Midnite Movie.
* Vote for your favorite Midnite Movie that you feel is the BEST MOVIE,,,NOT the one that received the most special features/animated menus, etc. i.e. Killer Klowns from Outer Space... We all know that one is not a good movie...at least if you have any character it isn't. So DO NOT go by DVD special feature treatment. You may vote for Killer Klowns, (Happy Chunky?), but explain that you think it is the best movie. Remember there are 8 Vincent Price movies in the list above. And if you like Killer Klowns better, tell me why, and tell me which medications you are currently on. Thanks!

So, what you're saying is, vote for your favorite as long as it's not Killer Klowns. I guess I must agree, since obviously your word is gospel. There's nothing like trying to skew the vote.

Why bother posting a topic like this? Why not try posting "Everybody who liked any/all the midnite movies except Killer Klowns sound off here"?

Hey, you no-like da rules, Chunky, don't post in the thread.

The "best" of all the movies on your list, there, M&C, would prob'ly be THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES, although I certainly have a great deal of fondness for THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, HOUSE OF USHER, BEACH BLANKET BINGO, X, IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE, THING WITH TWO HEADS, ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE and I BURY THE LIVING.

Movies I wouldn't hit a dog in the proverbial ass with include INVADERS FROM MARS and REPTILICUS.

Good cherces, Chris, but I b'lieve that the thread refers to the actual "Midnight Movies" released with that logo by MGM. And how come MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS (with Laurel & Hardy) doesn't get more props (and a better DVD release?)...

Thanks, Gravy. I've seen that banner on a few MGM releases, but I didn't really think of that. Are there really that many titles in the series?

As for Wooden Soldiers, I agree -- it needs a good DVD release, with a cleaned-up print and without colorization. It's got some of the worst acting ever captured on film, but no matter, it's Laurel & Hardy.

Hey, what's wrong with Killer Klowns? The entire point of the Midnite Movies line is to show off bad movies with a cult following. We all know that none of them are really very good movies, in the sense that a critic would like them. So in the context of Midnite Movies, Killer Klowns from Outer Space is my favorite. To say a movie is bad that is in the Midnite Movies line would be beside the point, because all of them are bad, and that's why they have a following.

Lets see, I have already bought:

3. The Pit and the Pendulum
4. The Fall of the House of Usher
8. Planet of the Vampires
9. "X"- The Man with the X-ray Eyes
12. The Man from Planet X
14. The Monster that Challenged the World
15. It!- The Terror from Beyond Space
26. Reptilicus

I think they are all corny fun! With a price of only $9.99 at my local Best Buy... I think I will end-up buying even more. Blockbuster will never carry these DVDs.

The best of the list for me is easy: It!- The Terror from Beyond Space - a great film. Low budget, but done very very well.

How can you say that these movies are all bad? Are you saying that the Edgar Allen Poe movies, which Vincent Price is in, and are two of the current Midnite Movies, bad? How can ya' say that? As far as the critics not liking them,,,All of the titles have a good review quote on the back of their cases. So obviously, some critics liked them.

I don't have a problem with people saying they liked Killer Klowns From Outer Space...If they explain that they liked it for the movie it is, and not the treatment it got. But if someone out there actually prefers Killer Klowns over the 7, soon to be 8 Vincent Price titles out there. Then they are the one that has a problem.

I have 16 of them now. I buy most of mine at Best Buy too. And they are obviously $9.99 there too. Is Reptilicus any good? They have that at, and Donovan's Brain right now at my Best Buy store. My favorite one is Theater of Blood.

Thanks for getting my back. I love Abominable Dr. Phibes. The sequel is good, but not as good as the original. You didn't like Invaders from Mars? I actually really liked that one. Have since I was a kid. You MUST get Theater of Blood! It is incredible!

I have liked alot of these, especially The Time Machine- It is one of my favorites. But like Laughing Gravy said, this is a topic for best MGM's Midnite Movies. If you have not heard of these as of yet, check them out sometime. mgm.com has a near-complete list of them by going through the DVD Genre search. Thanks for posting though, I do appreciate it.

M&C: I liked the original INVADERS FROM MARS much better. As for THEATRE OF BLOOD, it's such a cheap LOOKING film, and so obviously derivative from the PHIBES pictures. Plus, I couldn't help but think that the off-camera conversations between Mr. Price and Ms. Rigg would be SO much more interesting than the film itself! Still, worth one look, I guess.

Now come on, MGM, and give us more of the 1950s sci-fi/horror pictures, such as I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF and THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN and ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS and FROM HELL IT CAME, the rest of the Beach Party movies, and the rest of the Roger Corman/Vincent Price/Edgar Allan Poe pictures!!!

Mykel: Thank you for the clarification. At first I though you were just being a facist, but your explaination of your statement is reasonable.
No harm, no foul.

I will put my vote for Invader from Mars with the qualifictaion that I have yet to see all the Midnite movies, so my choice may change (I'm still waiting for my local video stor eto get in the Phibes movies). It! The Terror from Beyond Space is second, the 1977 Dr. Moreau is third, and Killer Klowns is fourth.

To be honest, I havent had a chance to watch the Reptilicus DVD. If my memory is correct, it just a fun '50s monster movie.

I will try to watch it tonight and give you a brief update tomorrow.

That is NOT a complete list of "Midnight Movies" titles, either, 'cause off the top of my head, I can think of at least one other that I've got in my collection: THE WILD ANGELS, a late '60s biker flick with Bruce Dern. Darned good.

Well thanks for your criticism, I have learned such a valuable lesson from you. You should've been a teacher! I will modify the list, just for you. Do you know where there is a complete listing? MGM's own website doesn't even have a complete list.

A teacher? Really?

*Scrapes fingernails down the chalkboard*

Heh-heh-heh.

Anyway, thinking about it, FROGS is also a "Midnight Movie". And I don't know where to find a complete list... There must be some DVD internet company that lists 'em, I'll bet. Sadly, MGM's website, like Universal's, is much more skewered toward pushing its latest product, and it's very difficult to find information about vintage movies...

Frogs is a Midnite Movie, but it is a VHS only Midnite Movie. I don't count those in this topic. For one, this is a DVD discussion place, and for two, there are many more Midnite Movies titles on VHS. Some of them may get to be Midnite Movie DVD's, At least I hope.

I have been enjoying this series quite a bit!
I look forward to the next batch and the rest of the Price, Poe, Corman films as I'm sure they will also make it into this series. Has anyone seen the Drive-In DVD double features? I would like to know if they might be worth getting as well.

Believe me I am going to! I will get every one except Killer Klowns From Outer Space. My brother Drexl has that one. I don't think I would buy it though. If I got it as a gift, then that would be fine. But I wouldn't tell anyone I had it! lol Thanks!

Sorry I didnt get back to you earlier, but my weekend was very very busy. Had to pick-up my mother-in-law and set her up at home. She just got released from the rehab place after knee replacement surgery.... anyway.

Reptilicus was alot of fun. I really enjoy the nostalgia of these movies.
