Scorcese/De Niro's Best Movie Together

I just mentioned in another thread that I had finished watching the remake of Cape Fear on DVD. And, although, I think this is yet another great movie, it isn't my favourite Scorcese/De Niro picture.

I think most of you can figure out from my username which one is my favourite. I think its an excellent, frightening story about infatuation, loneliness, and alienation. Something we can all identify with though not to the extremes the movie goes to.

So, which is your best Scorcese/De Niro pic?
They've worked together so many times. I can think of at least a half dozen movies off the top of my head.

I have to agree with Travis on this issue. I can easily identify with the many of the issues in Taxi Driver. Specifically, I'm fascinated with the idea of being most alone in a crowded area. Taxi Driver also centers around DeNiro while films such as Goodfellas and Casino gain their strength from their great ensemble casts.

GoodFellas, hands down. It's just the best film that they did together, and the most fun. The other actors obviously make this a brilliant film, but DeNiro makes it gold.

Taxi Driver. DeNiro gave one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, cinematic performance ever, IMO.

All these movies are great, and I wouldn't try to say which was best, but dammit someone needs to stand up for Casino and The King of Comedy. (I'm in the minority that thinks that Casino is superior to Goodfellas, though.)

PROSPERO,

Gotta agree with you about Casino being better than Goodfellas,Don`t get me wrong Goodfellas is a fantastic film but IMO Casino is superior.

And if i had to choose which Scorcese/De Niro film was my favourite it would have to be Taxi Driver....only just though.

While I agree that Deniro was at the top of his game in Taxi Driver, hands down my favourite DeNiro/Scorsese collaboration would have to be Goodfellas, in which Scorsese was close to the top of his game.

Scorsese was close to the top of his game? When, by your standards, was Scorsese at the top of his game... Or are you implying that he hasn't reached the top of his game? Because with his string of classics, it's more abnormal in his history to be not at the top of his game.... or something.

I know a lot of people would disagree, but his is my favorite. Taxi Driver is a very close second.

Another vote for Raging Bull, just in front of Taxidriver and Mean Streets.... How many Oscars has Scorcese on his mantel piece by now?

I just got Raging Bull, and heard that there was a Special Edition coming out, so I ditched it for Hard Eight. I guess I will just have to wait to see the film another time.

But either Goodfellas (waiting for SE also) or Taxi Driver.

It's Deniro's best performace in my opinion, if you've seen the movie you know why. It's just so out there, how many people in 1983 when this movie was released would have ever thought that they would ever seen Deniro play a role like that? I mean Deniro is awesome as a gangster, bad guys, cops, or psychos, but when he's the King of Comedy it just blew me out of the water. If anyone ever has any doubt that Deniro is not the greatest actor of all time, I just tell them to watch his movies he did with Scorsese as all of them are just so great and different.

Mean Streets is pretty fucking good too, although I like all of their movies together. Deniro is just awesome in those two.

Taxi Driver by far. I get chills when I watch that movie and not just from the subject matter. It's like the planets have aligned or something.

A Very Tough Call

Bobby D is by far my favorite actor and I love the way Scorcese tells stories. I would have to say my favorite collective work from them is Goodfellas. That is not an easy call though, because I love mobster movies and Goodfellas and Casino are two of my all time favorites.

Raging Bull and Taxi Driver and all the rest are great too, but if I was on death row and could only watch one flick before the switch got flipped, I'd have to watch the Goodfellas.

Ah, it's so tough though, who doesn't love DeNiro's outfits in Casino???!!?!?!?! Oh well, I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Movies simply do not get any better than Taxi Driver. Brilliant movie by an incredible director featuring De Niro most powerful performance.

An absolutely perfect film.
