What will be the biggest 2002 DVD?

So what does everyone think will be the biggest DVD release of the coming year?
I really don't know who would be a strong contender.

Didn't Lucas say the Episode II DVD will be out at the same time as the video will be, which will be some where around December 2002? I think that will be a contender as the biggest release for 2002.

If EPISODE II comes out, that's the clear winner (unless the movie sucks the fat one, which I doubt).

If not, then I'm sure the crown will belong to the THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (unless, similarly, it sucks the fat one, which I also doubt).

I second Ed Wood. But has it been officially announced, or just speculation?

For actually "announced" titles, definately Top Secret! & the Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy. For speculation, BTTF, Dick Tracy, and Episode II.

Why would Lucas actually put Episode 2 out on DVD sooner than he did Episode 1? Just speculation but I think he is a dick about this stuff. Control Freaky (censored)!!!

Actually, each movie will be released after all three installments have made their run through the theatres. So more like '04. At least that is what I have heard.

I don't think Episode II will be released until the spring of 2003. I could be wrong; that's just my prediction. I say it because (a) Episode I wasn't released until the following year, and (b) It took them so long (they claim) to put together everything for the first DVD set; why would they be able to finish the next one 3-4 months after the film is released? We know the DVD won't be released after the VHS.

Now, as for "biggest 2002 DVD," do you mean what we think will be the top seller, or the one we are most anticipating?

Top selling: The Fellowship of the Ring or Beauty and the Beast

Most anticipated: Schindler's List

Vanilla Sky is going to be great. The potential for some intriguing extras is really high (has anyone seen the trailer?). Since its coming out this December, its only logical that 2002 is the year for the DVD.

Hopefully, Crowe comes through with some great extras and puts them in one DVD package. Unlike, the whole Almost Famous fiasco.

For some reason I hope they do postpone video/dvd release untill after all three are out. That way there's less of a chance of having the first two released, and then the special editions come out in a box a couple years later.

You are all so fucking clueless.

We all know that the biggest seller of 2002, nay, of all time, will be Criterions' Epic 5 Disc set of Krush Groove

Clearly the biggest DVD release of the coming
year is going to be...."Spider Man"...duh!!
With the theatrical release being early May,
You assume that it will release in November.
I predict a 150-200 million domestic box
office take. And that the DVD release will by
far be the biggest of the year......pending
that "Episode II" doesn't release.

I think it will be Beauty and the Beast, if it is anything like the Snow White disc I just spent 5 hours watching with my jaw on the floor. It also depends on any yet-to-be-announced big titles, if for some miracle Raiders, Back top the Future or such come out. I think Ed Wood will sell very well. I have also learned that How the West was Won will be mastered using a recently discovered Cinerama print..using the original 6 channel soundtrack. This may be a top seller of the year if it is done in time for 2002 release.

Back to the Future and the Indy Trilogy, if they're released next year will do well, and as far as films not yet released that will do well, Harry Potter and Fellowship of the Ring. I'm hoping that these two will be 2-disc sets, because they deserve them. I heard that production on Harry Potter began way back then several months ago. I'm hoping it will have commentary from J.K. Rowling about her thoughts on the film. As for Fellowship of the Ring, I would like it to have to have some commentary from Tolkien's son, Christopher Tolkien if he's still alive. Star Wars Episode II isn't probably going to come out until spring 2003 as stated earlier. Also, there's the Blade Runner 20th Anniversery DVD set which will most likely do extremely well.

I think that the Indy and Back to the Future series will be out by the end of next year. They will be huge.

Episode II will probably be released, but a bare bones DVD, so that we will have to buy the SE that would come out in 2004. Then the UE that comes out after EPIII is out. Then of coarse the Super Ultimate Edition a few years latter, then the special silver 15th, Gold 20th, and Platinum 25th aniversery edditions.

Spider Man, LOTR, and Harry Potter. All will be big.

Some that you might not think about could be...

WindTalkers (assuming it's released in theaters in time). Don't underestimate the popularity of war movies, especialy a John Woo/Nic Cage war movie.

Black Hawk Down. Ridley Scott puts out some great DVD sets. Because the theme of the movie has some relevence in todays war, I think that Scott would work hard on the DVD, making it maybe better than Gladiator. Plus, don't underestimate war movies. It should be a great movie, with great picture and sound.
