Scariest Movie you have ever seen?

After reading through the replies of Solid Snake ass post on Movies that made you physically sick.

I was wondering what was the most scariest film you have ever seen.?

Mine has to be F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, I Saw this as a kid and it frightened the crap out of me.
Robert Wise's the Haunting left a lasting impression also..I remember not wanting to go to bed after watching it

Regards Linval

Mine was always the original, "Amityville Horror". But after I found out the entire story of the first movie was fake, it doesn't mean as much to me anymore as it did when I was growing up.

Night of the Living Dead.

For some reason, the dead rising and feeding on the living just scared the crap out of me.

The most frightening movie I ever saw, though admittedly it was when I was about twelve, was the original Lord of the Flies. It scared the crap out of me, and I can still recall what that felt like all these years later.

There was an Incredible Hulk movie made at some point in the late 80s or so, and my friend brought it over to my house on video when I was 10. I was so freaked out when Bruce Banner started to transform into the Hulk that I'd casually excuse myself from the room and hide under my bed.

Also, the climax to Who Framed Roger Rabbit (spoilers to all 3 of you who haven't seen it) where Christopher Lloyd melts freaked me out a lot.

Nowadays I don't get scared when watching movies.

I think I'm jaded. I love horror/scary movies and have been watching them since I was a kid. I never really felt true terror though.

this is a particular favorite subject of mine though.

I think the original Nightmare on Elm Street is quite scarry.

I agree with Nosferatu.

The People Under The Stairs stuck with me as being pretty scary. haven't seen it for a while though so maybe it was just the mood I was in when I saw it.

Alien

Friday the 13th part 2 scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. I had nightmares about being lost in the woods at night and being chased by a slasher....

The Exorcist still scares me.

And I find Halloween "chilling", but not really scary

Jaws. Saw this at the theater when I was just a punk. I think I vomited so hard that I sprayed people 10 rows in front of me. I'm still scared of swimming at night. Even in fresh water. *chills*

#1 fear: being eaten alive. By anything. Large Venus fly trap, shark, dinosaur, tiger, bear, pigs. . . Stupid movie!!

Also Saving Private Ryan. I walked away from the theater shaking and needing sex.

THE SHINING, followed rather closely by THE EXORCIST. I have come to the conclusion that, regardless of how many times I view the two (and the number is already well into the double digits), they will never wane in their ability to deeply and powerfully disturb me. Long live epic horror!

1)The Exorcist-plain and simply, this movie scares me shitless, then it scares me some more. It's something about her eyes and voice that just goes right through me. Then you add in the crazy shadows, voices, noises, and nightmares. Just a brilliant horror film.

2)The Shining (original)

3)The Omen

4)Halloween

5)Alien

BTW Chris in OC, I read The Lord of the Flies when I was 16 and it was quite chilling. Under rated movie also, in my opinion.

Quite a few have since I was just a youngster.

1. Jaws - Scared me when I was little, and still gives me the creeps to this day.

2. The Shining - One of the scariest stories ever written, and the movie brings that horror to the silver screen.

3. Halloween - The music! One of my favorite scary movies of all time.

4. Event Horizon - Trash it if you wish, but it was probably the most recent movie to seriously give me the creeps.

5. The Exorcist - Ick. Scares me everytime I watch it.

I was really scared by the orignal Elm Street. None of the sequels. I remember when I brought it to my ex-wife's house when we were still dating, and it scared her beyond belief!

Let's see, movies that scared me when I was little:

Nightmare on Elm Street
The Fog

Movies that have given me the creeps since I was a teenager or older:

The Innocents
New Nightmare - I still consider this the most underrated horror film of the last 15 years (it scared my gf a lot worse than the original)

When I was a kid, these movies scared me:

The Shining (Kubrick)
The Amityville Horror

Its too bad that movies nowadays go for cheap thrills & shocks rather than real terror. Nothing is scary anymore.

I haven't watched The Exorcist since 1983 or thereabouts. I watched The Shining when it first ran on HBO in 1981, and hid in the kitchen for the duration of the picture after the woman came out of the tub. I didn't watch it again for about five or six years, and now see it as the pinnacle of pure, dreading horror.

I am 22 years old and live in Australia. I can still remember sneaking in to see the first Terminator movie when I was five y.o. and having nightmares of a huge T-800 stalking me in my sleep for months afterward.

Also, when I first saw the original Halloween movie where Michael Myers' face appears out of the dark behind Jamie Lee Curtis' character at the top of the stairs. That definately made me check my shorts, and in my opinion, is the greatest scene in horror movie history

I think I saw Cronenberg's "The Fly" when I was around 10 or 11... that really really scared the shit outta me, I couldnt watch the final 20 or so minutes it was so bad.

But I've seen it a few times since and I've often wondered what it was that freaked me out so much. Oh well.

While I wasnt scared at all through Blair Witch, that last shot before the camera falls to the ground sent major chills through my spine. Best scene in the flick.

By far, the most frightening film ever created is "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" by Robert Aldrich.

A while ago, I made a big top horror movies list, and I've been updating it every once in a while. Take a look:

The scariest movie I've ever seen....

I was watching it yesterday....
...and oddly enough, it was on every station.

It's even more frightening to realize that it wasn't a movie.

You won't believe this, but...
Maximum Overdrive

And that's only because I was really young and had to stop watching it halfway through and mow a lawn.

And there was an Oldsmobile parked right next to the lawn that I swore was about to run me over. My grip on the lawnmower was really tight, also.

Call me the biggest sissy in the world, but "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" scared me shitless as a child and even though I am now almost 16 years old, it suprisingly still scares me. When I was a kid, the "Heigh Ho" scene scared the living shit out of me and in a way , it still does, but it isn't as big as a problem anymore than the Queen herself. She is one scary bitch and scares me shitless whenbever I see her face. Her eyes will probably be still in my mind. I know it is just me and all you grown-ups might be laughing your ass off, but I swear of God, it's true.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I should buy the DVD on October 9 and even if I buy it, I will not buy it the day it comes out

I know it's kinda a freak show, but John Carpenter's The Thing freaked me out when I first saw it. And I saw the T.V version where a lot of the violence was edited out. I think what got me was the fact that these guys were trapped. They couldn't run away. They had to face the Thing. And they were willing to give thier lives in the process.

Very freaky. I own the DVD now. Awesome DVD.

Pet Semetary also got me pretty good.

ME TOO! I totally agree. The original Haunting is the scariest!!! I remember watching it in the middle of the night (alone) and had to watch Benny and Joon again and again after it before I could sleep.

The movies that scare me the most are movies that have pieces of art or architecture that are haunted. Ewwwww... like the original the Picture of Dorian Grey.

Everything scared me as a child. Not Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs though It was actually Darby O'Gill and the Little People ghost... and it still is. I can't STAND the ending

Let me re-iterate "What Ever Happened to Baby jane?". I just bought it onight, and I had forgotten just how powerful it was. Jeez, I'll probably be screwed up all week! If anyone has never seen this, you're missing the most frightening film ever. It's a truly unique experience that I don't think any viewer could soon forget. Just devastatingly terrifying.

LOL codger, loved the Maximum Overdrive post, though I think that movie is scary for the wrong reasons. Anyway, I think that anything from John Carpenter, besides his Vampires, Ghosts of Mars, and Starman, is one of the scariest movies ever. And although it may be a bit premature, I really enjoyed The Others, and it stood out, I think, in a summer of movies that didn't really do much of anything for me. Oh yeah, and Battlefield Earth, for reasons similar to Maximum Overdrive.

I think Maximum Overdrive should be moved to the "funniest movies you've seen" section. I laugh my ass off everytime I see it. Anyway, even though they're kind of a clique now, the Exorcist and the Blair Witch Project scare the crap out of me. I own the Exorcist, but I don't watch it very often because I absolutely cannot watch it by myself! Movies that are not so much scary but disturbing are the Shining and Event Horizon.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining does that to me equally. The fast motion low angle tricycle shots through the hotel spell impending doom, hurtling through. It seems Sam Raimi discovered these around the same time as Kubrick, for The Evil Dead. The performance of Jack Nicholson is also utterly central to the underlying madness and terror, the sudden lurch into the twisted evil desire in killing those he holds dear is purely one of the most shocking moments in cinema history. Entirely in stark contrast to his loving talk with his son earlier in the movie.

Although put me down for Arnold in The Terminator as a close second. So many low angles, making him look indestructible and inescapable. That emotionless face.. shudder

I saw Evil Dead when I was eleven or twelve, at a sleep over party... and I remember, this was the time that snigglets had come out... and I was a the very definition (can't remember the snigglet) of the person who uses the covers to hide/watch the screen of a television when a horror movie is on.

1) Candyman (first one) - Hearing Candyman say: "Be my victim" and the ending in the bonfire gives me the creeps.

2) Blair Witch Project - I was fine up until the last few minutes in the house, when all the screaming took place and then the last scene where we see Mike standing in the corner until the camera runs out gave me the chills.

3) Seven - No need to go into anything here

5) The Shining (both versions) - The Kubrick one had better acting and was scarier (and had the creepiest trailer I've ever seen) but the TV movie version made explained things better, was much closer to Stephen King's book and featured a MUCH more attractive Wendy. These are actually very good compainion movies.
