The West Wing on DVD?
I just thought I would voice my opinion that I think WB's THE WEST WING should be released on DVD. After the season finale of the second season I decided that the show is just too good not to have on DVD for keeps. I personally dont care about extras when it comes to TV shows. I would just love to see a 16:9 transfer from the original video which was of course, tranfered from 35mm film. GORGEOUS!
Anyone else second that motion? Of course, it will have to be all the episodes too. Not just the "Best Ofs" like FRIENDS has in R1. |

My wife would be all over this one. I would not think it a bad idea either. Of cource there are two problems, syndication which has already been mentioned and also we are talking about Warner Bro's. They have resisted season sets of anything

I think just about all TV shows will hit DVD eventually. Just give it time. Some of the movie studios dragged their feet in releasing some *movies* on DVD, but now just about everything is in the pipeline for release within the next couple of years.
These are actually the releases I'm most looking forward to... I'm not a huge TV show freak, but it's really convenient to be able to pull out a season set and just pop in an episode that you might have missed the first time around. Or catch a show that you never watched on TV before.. a perfect example: I bought the Stargate SG-1 season one set never having watched the show, and am now a big fan. There's a lot of high quality shows out there, not to mention the ones eternally living in syndication. Wouldn't I Love Lucy or ST:TNG have a great potential for some director's cuts.. imagine the cool commentary tracks or extras they could do on those shows. And how many of us already bought season one of The Simpsons? Woohoo! The record companies were thrashed by MP3s and I don't think the television studios are going to let the digital revolution catch them with their pants down so that they miss out on this chance to cash in. With TiVo and Replay allowing consumers to skip commercials and record shows on a hard drive, I think it's only a matter of time before everything is available for download or sharing on a computer somewhere. There was a really good NYT Magazine article by Michael Lewis last year on this very subject. As the consumer base for DVDs grows, I think television studios will realize the enormous profits they can make from DVD sales while still making money from syndication. Now we just gotta be patient. =) [This message has been edited by xboxfreak (edited 10-16-2001).] |

Awwww, but we dont have syndication in Australia for much. Only stuff like THE SIMPSONS or SEINFELD.
Well....they still may do it I guess here in R4. We do have FRIENDS on DVD from WB...and I dont mean that Best of shyte. I mean all the episodes! AH-HA! There IS an advantage to being in a different region for once!!! ![]() |

True enough.
Syndication deals might kill this idea in Region 1, whereas in other regions they are unencumbered - at least until the rights run out. Just look at the whole 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' situation (although it's finally coming). I'd love West Wing or ER on DVD, but then again it's Warner Bros. and they don't have the best track record at the moment. |
