DVD-ROM owners take note

regarding Interactual Player 2.0 and problems I've been having with it with my Creative Labs DVD-ROM, interactual sent me the following, whcih I find hard to believe, as the Creative Labs sets always got the best reviews as far as I ever saw. Anyway, I'm screwed where future so-called PCFRIENDLY (sic) stuff comes in, and I guess some of you will be as well. Interactual and Creative Labs have a lot to answer for between them:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting InterActual technical support. We are no longer
supporting the Creative PC-DVD Hardware decoders because of
non-availability of any further driver updates, or for that matter, upgrades,
to this hardware.
These include the Creative DXR2, DXR3, And the PC-DVD Inlay PCI hardware boards.
Our Engineering department has tested these drivers extensively and has
determined that the drivers have far too many bugs for us to adequately
support this player.
We informed Creative of our findings and they were given the option toupdate
their navigator but chose not to do so, as a result, we had no choice but to
drop all support for their products in our New InterActual Player interface.

Well since Creatives Encore Drx3 card is really a RealMagic Hollywood Plus DVD decoder card so you could always try the drivers from http://www.realmagic.com and see if that helps any! I havnt tried those but it might or might not help!

So basically your telling us that if we have the Creative lab DVD/decodercard combo we cannot access DVDrom features of movies like Shrek,Starwars Ep I and any other movie like that. I too am no having problems accessing PC Friendly, but on the other hand i have a 8meg PCI video card from STB(ancesstor to voodoo/3DFX) as i said before, i have no problem playing the movie on my computer, that sucks

There's nothing wrong with G rated movies, as long as they have lots of sex and violence.

Lucky for me, DVD-ROM content generally sucks...

Additionally, Mac users have been screwed since day 1.

In general, I subscribe to the philosophy that DVDs should be open. Putting proprietary information on discs that only certain DVD-ROM-owning users of Windows can access goes against my grain. So, I'm biased from the get-go.

The trouble with that view-point of 'it-should-be-available-to-all' is that it gives VHS only owners the right to whinge about us DVD owners having extras they don't. I know one person who has a strange loathing of DVD, refuses to upgrade from VHS and endlessly moans about the extras we get.

Hello everyone...

This is not the first time I have seen problems with Creative. When I first upgraded to Win2K(abou 3 months before it came out) there was no help from creative re. drivers for their Modems. I as told that since Win2K wasn't "officially" released(I was a retail sales associate, and got a copy from MS before it went on sale) that they felt they didn't need to support it. Needless to say, I have not been a fan of creative since then.

On another note, I have found that with a good Vid card, and a good software decoder like WinDVD, or even Power DVD, you will get better performance than with the DXR-x board. I compaired the Windvd/GFII MX400 to the RMHP on Chromy's HDTV, and the difference was enough to make me remove my RMHP from my puter. You might want to look into a new Vid card and a good software decoder, as I doubt you will ever see any support from Creative.

Creative Labs do indeed seem to be becoming very customer unfriendly. they were very good up until early last year, when any technical support I needed suddenly became ignored or useless. Dunno what's wrong with them all of asudden.

Shouldn't they have some legal obligation to keep their products working? Having a DVD-ROM drive become useless after 2 years is rediclous.

I'm considered the idea of getting a software only player to bypass the hardware board and see if that'll get the Interactual v.2 working, but I'm worried about conflicts and other technicallities.

I've got a Creative DVD-Rom and learned:

You do not need the Interactual PLAYER to access DVD-Rom content - you only need the Interactual Navigator, which can be gotten to by clicking the Lightning Bolt icon at the top of the Interactual player. Make sure to choose the correct Navigator in the Interactual configuration menu. If you've installed Direct X 8, you should be able to use the DirectShow Navigator. You can associate any other DVD player (such as Power DVD) on your computer as a default.
