Star Trek: TNG on DVD?
Will we ever see TNG on DVD? I've recently started watching it again and I'd forgotten how much I loved it (ah, those Trekkie days long past...) Anyway, are they available, or what are the chances of us ever seeing them released. I'm hope Paramount knows that they stand to make a shitload of money.

Not sure if there has been any formal press release, but supposedly Paramount is starting to release ST:TNG on DVD in season boxsets early next year. Dates I found somewhere, not confirmed:
Star Trek: Next Gen Season 1 - Mar 19th Star Trek: Next Gen Season 2 - May 7th Will presumably be followed by Voyager and DS9.. |

However, if they do release them that quickly I would worry about quality. They might release them extra-less and with bad video and audio just to meet the dead-line. When it comes to TV shows on dvd, I don't really care about extras much. Just being able to watch and episode, or being able to watch the series in order are enough to get me to buy it.
And I just hate how they released Star Trek TOS, so I guess we should be happy for anything. |

I believe I read at thedigitalbits.com that the boxed season sets would contain remastered episodes, behind-the-scenes documentaries, certain episodic commentaries by Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes and an assortment of trailers. Paramount will be releasing at least four seasons in boxed sets in 2002 with DS9 and Voyager to follow (I'm really looking forward to DS9--it's my favorite contemporary Trek series). I'm glad Paramount followed Fox's lead--the X-Files sets are marvelous--by releasing season sets--it's more economical and less time-consuming. With boxed season sets of Twin Peaks, TNG, DS9, X-Files, Millennium and M*A*S*H, 2002 will certainly be a good year for film geeks who apprecciate quality TV (now if only Freaks and Geeks and My So-Called Life could be released...).

I also read that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy will do commentaries for the Special Edition 2-6 films.

extras would be nice, there must be some and don't forget that paramount would have started on the box set when TOS came out, give they plenty of time to do extras and the overall package of each season.
for people in the UK who what to get TOS on dvd go to www.play247.com they are selling them at £13.99 each which is cheapest i have seen them. |
