Best Explosions?

I was just watching The Terminator and I swear when the tanker explodes, that just about the coolest damn explosion in the history of cinema. What do you think is the best? Octopussy had a good one at the beginning!

THE explosion in the Professional (Leon).

I don't want to give anything away for those who haven't seen it.

It was such a cool moment.

It is _almost_ worth owning Cutthroat Island just for that explosion...
And that odd thing I have for Geena Davis...

My fav explosion is when the x-wing fighter pilot (I think it was porkins) (god I feel like such a bad SW fan right now gets shot down and crashes into the Deathstar...

I also like the car exploding & flipping over in Ronin, after De Niro hits it with the rocket.

Another vote for the Death Star in Episode IV...

I've always had a particular fascination with the destruction of the U.S.S. Grissom in STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK--the way it just seems to keep exploding and exploding, bursting further outward in a spray of fire and debris. It's only a shame that we cut to the next shot too soon...

Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part...

"AIR FORCE ONE" - The fuel tanker plane (oh yeah!) And for the record, both the regular and Superbit versions of AFO are fine. I have both, and they are next-to identical.

"DAYLIGHT" (DTS version) - the tunnel explosion (one of the longest, continuous explosions in film history... whoops, I'm drooling)

"SWORDFISH" - The opening 360-big-bang (God bless 5.1)

"SCREAM 3" - "Whoever smells the..."

"HOLLOW MAN" - the big blow-out at the end.

"X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE" - the opening destruction of the federal building. Actually, can't say for sure whether it was a federal building or just a regular office building. Who cares? It's all about the BOOM.

"FIGHT CLUB" - great finale.

"CAST AWAY" - when the red-hot jet engine hits the water... nice.

"DIE HARD" - a tie between the C-4 down the shaft and the "blow the roof" scene.

I just know I am forgetting some, dammit. I also agree with the ones already discussed like "Ronin" and "Crapload Island". Nice nice nice.

I don't need good plots or logic or acting.

Just blow up something big and I am a happy guy!

1)Krypton explosion in Superman-that thing REALLY gives the subwoofer a jolt.

2)The mine explosion in Mask of Zorro SE-Another subwoofer shaker, then the sounds of falling debris is awesome

I thought the building explosion at the beginning of the x-files was sort of disappointing, but from a sound perspective, the well-manicured man's limo exploding was impressive.

Just Finsished This Movie As A Blind Purchase! Glad I Did! This Scene Has To Be The Best Explosion That I've Ever Seen!!!

------------------
I bought a pack of gum yesterday - Bubblicious - Watermelon. I know everyone's saying "Hold off, there's gonna be a special edition with remastered flavor and at least it won't be in that awful paper wrapper." But you know what, I figured it's worth it. I mean if it's not that good, I can always auction off the rest of the pack on eBay. And then if Bubblicious revisits the Watermelon gum, I can use the money to re-purchase the upgrade.

You've all forgotten the all-time best explosion ever recorded on film:

Mr. Creosote (the fat guy) exploding after stuffing himself in the restaurant in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life

I got got Swordfish as a blind purchase as well, and I knew it was worth it just after that opening scene.

My favorite though, has to be Independence Day when they blow up the 3 or 4 buildings. Those scenes alone makes me not regret a single dollar out of the hundreds I spent on that 15" sub of mine!!!
