Shrek---Was the disc worth the HYPE?

I picked it up on Friday, and I did enjoy it (my son has watched it like 3 or 4 times now ) and it had some cool features.
But I don't have DVD ROM, and it seems like half the stuff to do, you need a PC! That sucks! There are all kinds of games, but I can't get to them! And then, you see some of the tech stuff over and over. HBO First look, you see the "Fuzzy Doney", then on disc two you see him again in the Tech documentary, and then again in the Tech Glitches. Yeah, I enjoyed Fuzzy Donkey, but he is part of like half the bonus features that I can access!
Great movie, cool sound, great picture, overrated disc!

I wouldn't call this disc overrated.. OK 11 hours of extra features is not true, but it's a great disc nonetheless...

Definitely Worth The Blind Purchase. It's One Of My Faves Now, + Since I Have A DVD-Rom & DVD Player I Was Able To Do It All! Kick Ass DVD = Shrek and many more...

------------------
I bought a pack of gum yesterday - Bubblicious - Watermelon. I know everyone's saying "Hold off, there's gonna be a special edition with remastered flavor and at least it won't be in that awful paper wrapper." But you know what, I figured it's worth it. I mean if it's not that good, I can always auction off the rest of the pack on eBay. And then if Bubblicious revisits the Watermelon gum, I can use the money to re-purchase the upgrade.

it's a matter of how you look at it. Is it worth depriving those with DVD-rOMs of the great content just becuase some of us don;t have them? No, of course not.
The DVD-rOM content on SHREK won;t work on mine yet (need some patches), but I'm looking forward to it.
There's some excellent DVD-ROM content disks out there (MATRIX, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, CHEICKEN RUN etc), and there's nothing to gain from leaving them off.

What dreamworks should have done however was to make it clear on the packaging that so many of the extras were DVD-ROM only.

I must say I do like the name "FART LIGHTER"..
Anyhoo, I'm a MAC owner, yes, to those of us who have MAC'S and stand by them, I'm very disapointed. I'm not one for playing goofy DVD ROM games, however, these seemed kind of neat or made me a bit curious. Another way, it was like buying a WILLIAM CASTLE movie, loaded with gimmicks, but did we get what we paid for?

I guess I can't answer that question since I'm not old enough to even compare, I would have loved to see them though

Well I bought it for the movie, the extras are just that, extra. The price was the same as any other DVD, SE or not so what's all the fussing about?

I'm not interested in the DVD-ROM content myself, it looks rather 'kiddie' to me so I doubt I will ever even look at it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the movie or the cost.
I got it at Blockbuster with the 10 Week rent-a-card. So the deal was absolutely great!
And like I said, we've watched the movie many times. I just think that the extras were over-hyped, that's all.

Just wish I could get all of the gunk off the cover from that #&*%* contest prize piece. And, yeah, I won the ice cream cone.

Heh, yeah. I spent 20 minutes trying to get the gunk off the cover.

And I too "won" the Ice Cream Cone.

The movie is great, the disc is a bit weak for a special edition, I will agree.

I was also rather disapointed in the sound. It got the job done, it justed wasn't as involved as say, Toy Story. I was expecting a little more there, especially considering it had a DTS track.

I agree. Good movie and DVD, but the hype of the extras was a little out of proportion.

I won the cone too...what a surprise. Use Goo Gone to get the sticky crap off. Nail Polish remover is supposed to work too.

I have only had the disc for a little while, but I haven't seen anywhere near the 11 hours. I think this would have been a single disc release if they hadn't felt a P&S version was necessary. I really wish that they would start making this DVD Rom stuff available for Mac too.

I just got this "Shrek" disc. Can someone please tell me if the US released disc has the "Canadian Home Video" blue circular logo on the back cover among the film credits (next to the MPAA rating) and both the US and Canadian addresses for Universal/DreamWorks Video, or is it a Canadian version I have?

Thanx

The Next Generation

I just watched it and I thought the movie was OK, but not the hilarious romp everyone hyped it up to be. Add in the sticky mess on the cover and I feel like I should have rented it instead. I'm usually happy to own a DVD, but this one I will probably never watch again.

Yes, many US DVD's have the Canadian rating. I guess they try to cover all of the bases.

For those who don't think there are really 11 hours of bonus material, consider that those animated menus, the commentary, the P&S transfer, and probably the average time one would spend playing the games and going through the DVD-ROM content is included in that total.

Why in the world did they put the P&S transfer on disc one? That's just wrong.

I thought the movies was ok and I thought the audio and video were superb....

I listened to the dts audio when I first watched it and found the Dolby Digital audio was a little "louder".... Not sure if there was any dial. norm. in effect (as I was not paying attention to my receiver) which accounted for the audio difference.

Both audio tracks sounded VERY good..... Overall, I think the quality of the DVD is great! I watched 2 of the special features and those were fine.

Not sure if I would go so far as to call the DVD "overrated", but I found it enjoyable....

Peace.....
