Apocalypse When?

Greetings!

Just about to go out and pick up "Osmosis Jones" (better than you think!) and am tempted by the "Apocalypse Now Redux" disc(s). Trouble is, the two disc set is merely(!) just the new edition of the film. Okay, so nice to have the extra footage and it all makes sense and all, but where's the extras? Coppola's commentary, Trailers, Compares with the original? Where's the "Hearts Of Darkness" documentary for Pete's sake!!?

Does anyone out there know of any plans to release a decent boxed set of this film, or is it down to how well it sells in this version? I didn't get the original Paramount DVD as I'd heard that this version was forthcoming, but I really don't want to shell out for this release if an even better one lies in wait...

It's officially out on the 20 th november but i have it.The only extra is a trailer. The added footage really makes the movie even better, fleshes out marlon brando's character.Due to the suits the heart of darness documentary could not be include but coppola says that he will hope to make it available on its own.I would highly recommend that you buy this landmaek movie, as the director intended it to be seen.

Well....I wish the DVD would include both versions...because Coppola's original vision is far superior. Leave your masterpiece alone. You were a different person 20 years ago. You're coming off "Jack". Back then you were coming off "Godfather Part II" and "The Conversation". You judgement was better back then. I say...don't buy the Redux. The Redux sux.

For a movie as classic as Apoc. Now, why can't Coppola do the right thing like he did with the Godfather movies and special ed. them. U know he will one day. But by then it will be the third damned edition (at least!). I refuse to buy bare bones discs unless they are superbit. And u know Paramount are NOT superbit discs.

Markedouglas you may want to rethink your decision not to buy REDUX, The new footage really adds to the story. The picture & audio are better than the original. The aspect ratio appears to be 1.85 as it appears perfectly framed on my 46" widescreen with out any kind of zooming....

The new footage...actually takes away from the film. The Kilgore sequence turns into high farce (Napalm in the morning speech...is undercut), more playboy bunnies is not necessary (fuel for sex exchange?), French Plantation scene (25 minutes of non-dramatic pap), and Brando in the daylight(he belongs in the dark...not just because of his girth...but because the film is a descent into "darkness"). Save your cash. Coppola was right the first time.

Well, I did get the disc, but not opened it yet.

Now I'm dreading it...it sounds like it might be a let down. I might end up going back and getting the original. No problem then!

I found the new material to be interesting, but the original version is a better film. The French Plantation scene disappointed me the most. I guess there was so much speculation it could never live up to it. I would be the perfect opportunity to use seamless branching to put both versions on the same disc.
