Kubrick...
Which movie do you find better, Dr. Strangelove or A Clockwork Orange?
I love the both but which really grinds down to being the Better?! ------------------ "We all go a little mad sometimes.." -Norman Bates |

Why do you need us to tell you? Just watch them and decide for yourself?
Personally, I find that Kubrick films are so unique and interesting that, on any given day, I deem a different Kubrick title to be his "best." For the record, my favorites usually fluctuate between (in no particular order of course ):2001 Strangelove Barry Lyndon The Shining |

My Choices:
2001 A Clockwork Orange Dr. Strangelove Barry Lyndon Eyes Wide Open The Shining Full Metal Jacket 2001 surprises me with how it doesn't seem dated. Amazing stuff. Rather than droning on around each .. (my list order probably would change on what day it is) I'd just like to say a word about Barry Lyndon. I saw Barry Lyndon mid-70s in an empty theatre. Pace of the movie crawled then and still crawls. Having said that - the movie should be seen just once for its lushness and style. The new remastered version of the DVD is a gorgeous print. |

Of the Kubrick collection Ive only seen Eyes WIde Shut, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. The latter being my favourite; but I do have the Kubrick collection arriving next week (prize in a comp.); so I can then judge. From what I have heard and scene here, I cant wait to see 2001 A Space Odyssey

Ah yes, Kubrick. I miss that guy.
I find it really hard to rank Kubrick's films (the ones that I've seen so far)because they all deserve top rating in my mind. But if there was a gun to my head, then here is the way that I would rank the Kubrick classics: 1. The Shining (a horror masterpiece) 2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (delivers a mind expanding experience unlike any other) T3. A Clockwork Orange / Eyes Wide Shut (I really can't decide which one of these gems deserves 3rd place more than the other in my list). 5. Lolita (I was surprised as to how brilliant and darkly comedic this movie really was). 6. Spartacus (the REAL Gladiator) 7. Dr. Strangelove (simply hilarious. Dark comedy rules) 8. Barry Lyndon (this film gets better and more beautiful each time that I view it...but my goodness, 3 hours is long for any movie). 9. Full Metal Jacket (this was the first Kubrick film that I ever saw...I was 9). I too would love to see his earlier films and documentaries (most notably Paths of Glory). As for the documentaries, I don't even know how the heck I would get my hands on those in the first place, but regardless, I'd love to see them. Rest in peace, Stanley. You are sorely missed. |

Ranking just those two, the nod must go to A CLOCKWORK ORANGE...
