Holiday DVD question

ok, the holidays are coming up and some people have asked me to get them dvds, only they said for me to choose it, they "didn't care", so i need to ask what dvds do you think would make perfect holdiay gifts?

should they be holdiay themed? the best featured ones? the most recent hot-sellers? please help me, the clock is ticking down.

Ummm.. I suppose if you don't know what movies individuals would like, you should go with classics that look good in anyones collection. Things like "Snow White" "Citizen Kane" or "Ben-Hur" are all good examples.

of course I think there is some law that everyone who ownes a DVD player must have a copy (or more) of The Matrix...

Do you know their taste in movies? What genres do they like/not like. There are plenty of choices out there....

Buy them gift certificates. Then you don't have to worry about what to pick.

I bought a pack of gum yesterday - Bubblicious - Watermelon. I know everyone's saying "Hold off, there's gonna be a special edition with remastered flavor and at least it won't be in that awful paper wrapper." But you know what, I figured it's worth it. I mean if it's not that good, I can always auction off the rest of the pack on eBay. And then if Bubblicious revisits the Watermelon gum, I can use the money to re-purchase the upgrade.

I like Seamonkeys idea. If you don't know what kinda films they like then go with movies everyone has to have. Or look at their VHS collection and then choose one of those to update to dvd for them.

If their kinda young I am sure the Simpsons Season set would suffice. For older folk get them classics like Citizen Kane or a Robert Redford movie

Or how about the James Bond movies? Not many people hate James Bond movies.

Some people look down on gift certificates, like it's a lazy way to go, but I absolutely love the feeling of walking into a store and being able to choose exactly the DVD I want and not having to pay for it.

Well I, for one, would frown upon and hate getting something like Beh-Huh or Citizen Sugar Cane crap.
Not everyone likes that, and there is never a movie that everyone "has to have".
So yes, unless you know the particular taste or at least genre/decade of movies a person prefers, then go with a gift certificate, always nice to go out with "free money" to get whatever you want, makes you feel like a kid again and everyone likes it.
Of course, I assume that is for your cowokers or unimportant friends. I wouldn't give just a gift certificate to a girlfriend or a father, you know.
