Disney shorts

Is the Mickey in Color set the first of the series to come out? And are there any plans to release earlier shorts (which I suppose were released on LD) on DVD?

All four "Disney Treasures" discs are to be released the same day (Dec. 4), including a set of Silly Symphony cartoons.

These Mickey Mouse shorts are the first to be released on DVD. There has been no word of the B&W to come out... yet. I think they will be come out at some point, but that is just a guess. (I think it is weird they are not coming out with the rest of the Disney Treasures.)

I was about to start a topic on the subject of this disc set, when I saw this thread just as I was too press the "Start a new topic" button.

I'm looking into buying the Mickey Mouse in Living Color set.
After reading the review of this set at the main DVDFile page, I got out my old VHS of Disney shorts that I hadn't seen in a while. It sure whetted my appetite for these great looking discs. I've been wanting some short cartoons to watch for quite a while, and these just might work.

I do hope that a collection of black and white cartoons comes out as well, I wouldn't mind having those at all.

I may even get the Silly Symphonies set in time, but it depends on which cartoons are on it.

oooh. thank you much kind sir.

Excellent! The one I was mainly hoping, "The Skeleton Dance", is indeed in the set. Very cool. Thanks again for the link!

Being a HUGE fan of all the Disney animation titles (Happy Birthday Walt!) I have been waiting for ages for these 'toons to come out on one format or another.

I have the "Black and White Years" LD set from a while back, and was dissappointed with "The Spirit Of Mickey" disc from the late 90s, due to the strange selection of material (and no "Runaway Brain").

What we need is a disc featuring the new Disney shorts on their own: from 1987's "Soccermania with Sport Goofy", through the "Roger Rabbit" shorts, "Off His Rockers" from '92 and the aforementioned "Runaway Brain" (and this was Oscar-nominated for Gawd's sake)!

The Mickey and "Silly Symphony" sets are wonderful for the time being, and at least "John Henry" will make it's debut next year (albeit in a pan-and-scan version), as well as the rumored "Donald Duck" and "Goofy" collections - bring 'em on!!

Also, the "DisneyLand" and "Davy Crockett" sets are on my list - I've never seen these in their entirety before! Christmas has come early!!

I opened this thread because I thought you were discussing Huey, Dewey and Louie's pants.

BubbleGumUK,
"Runaway Brain" was one of the cartoons on a laser from Japan title "MICKEY", Catalog No. PILA-1411. This is the one that Disney disowned. Runs for about $50-$60 on eBay.

three little pigs

Does anybody know if the Three Little Pigs short on the Silly Symphonies disc is the one where they replace the part where the wolf pretends to be collecting for his Jewish school fund.. or something? I read somewhere a while ago that sometime back they reanimated that segment because it was "offensive."

Disney's pretty well-known for screwing up their older material (ahem Song of the South) and am pretty curious how many of these shorts are not appearing in their original form.

"Silly Symphonies" and "Mickey Mouse In Living Color" is in the mail - I am really looking forward to these DVD's.

I hope that they release all the other Disney shorts too - especially the ones with Donald Duck. The short "Clown Of The Jungle" from 1947 is one of the funniest I have ever seen.

Well they are supposedly "uncensored", but I can't say for sure.

I was watching some Disney shorts on an old VHS (that I haven't watched in about 10 years), and was cracking up at "Mickey's Amateurs" where Donald Duck is shooting a tommy gun at the audience while reciting twinkle twinkle little star. I myself, would be terribly pissed if that was cut. It's so hilarious.

Don't worry UserNameUndecided, the tommy gun is there in Mickey's Amatuers. I picked up the set at the DisneyStore over the weekend and was able to plow away through the whole set. The cartoons were transfered quite well, and no PC policing was applied. Hopefully this will be the start of some serious catalogue releasing. I also hope studio's like WB get a clue and follow in suit.

Re: Disney Cartoons

They are indeed beautiful sets, and look for the "Easter Eggs" scattered throughout.

There's no appearance of a "Jewish fund" in either THE THREE LITTLE PIGS or its sequel, THE THREE LITTLE WOLVES.

Yes, Warners cartoons would be nice, but I'm really hoping for Fleischer cartoons, including the long-overdue Popeye cartoons...

To bad they didn't release the black and white years as well. I'd like to get Steamboat Willy.

Disney Treasures

I picked up Mickey Mouse in Living Color and Silly Symphonies last week at Walmart. $30 Canadian each (that's $20 US).

Walmart is great for new releases - not so good for older materials (anything past 2-3 months old...).

Now I'm waiting on the rest of disney's animated shorts - I want Ducks!
