Wes Anderson and Criterion. Bottle Rocket on it's way?

This review of The Royal Tenenbaums at aintitcool.com gives small mention of what is stated in the thread title:

Quote:
During his (Wes Anderson's) discussion he mentioned that they are planning Criterion Editions of both Bottle Rocket and the Royal Tenenbaums. They will all have similar art work, all done by his brother (who also did the map and cover for the Rushmore DVD and all the portraits in the Royal Tenenbaums).
This is really all that it says on the subject. Be careful when/if reading that review though. It says that it is spoiler free, but I read a few things I wish I hadn't.

I am glad to know a better edition of Bottle Rocket is coming. I've been close to buying the current edition, but decided to just wait and hope for a better version.

Also, the review speaks a bit about of the short film of which Bottle Rocket is based. Interesting stuff (to someone like me, who knows very little about it).

I just might buy this if they include the short film...

I am very glad I held out buying the lowsy Columbia edition.

I think that it would be problematic putting the short film on the DVD because apparently there are a bunch of songs on it that haven't been licensed. But maybe they'll edit or something.

This is amazing! I am so excited about this, since the Criterion release of Rushmore is one of my favorite discs, and I love Wes Anderson's films. I too have been putting off buying the lousy Bottle Rocket, so I am damn happy that I can finally get it.

Really, when was that? Was it ... last week maybe?

When I was browsing Future Shop the other day, I found Bottle Rocket and debated its purchase. I elected not to purchase it, as I secretly hoped Wes Anderson would have a Criterion release of his first film. If this upcoming Criterion edition news is true, it's a nice gift in the few weeks before The Royal Tenenbaums is released theatrically. If Criterion gives Bottle Rocket the same treatment it gave Rushmore, I will be a very happy person!

The only bad thing about the fact that it is Criterion is the price. But I can deal with that...

I would think that the lowest price would only be about $29.99 as it is for Rushmore at deepdiscountdvd.com and that price seems well worth it to me.

on a side note: It did strike me a bit odd that The Royal Tenenbaums is (supposedly) already set for a Criterion release. I guess the Criterion people/person was invited to an advanced screening, and approved it right there. Who knows. All I'm really concerned about for now though is Bottle Rocket.

I guess I should have explained that I am in Canada so Criterions are very expensive. For some reason a release from Fox, Warner, etc. will cost $20 CND in Canada when it is $20 in the US, but a Criterion will cost $60 CND when it is $30 AMR. $60 is a lot for a DVD, but I will end up buying both of these, so it's worse $120! Damn.

Good Heavens, that is quite different.

I wish I better understood the whole money conversion thing, but wouldn't ordering it online (using American dollars if you can) let you pay the same amount as a person ordering in America?
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but as I said, I don't fully understand who the money conversion stuff works when ordering online and all of that other gibberish.

Yes, our Canadian dollar isn't worth the paper it's printed on. I think the reason we Canadians pay more for Criterion is because those discs are imported into the Great White North whereas the other studios have distribution offices in Canada. I paid $60 CDN for Rushmore, but it was worth it--I love that quirky little film. Sic transit gloria!

Yes I can order it online and pay American money. But that doesn't stop me from paying $60 CND for it, since I still have to convert the funds to canadian dollars. $1 CND = $0.63 AMR, which is very sad!
