Wim Wender's Unti The End of the World

Ever since I first saw this film, I've always been fascinated by it. It was so unconventionally strustured and yet so good, it blew my mind. I can honestly say this this was the film that got me off of mainstream flicks.

Recently, I was lucky enough to pick up a bootleg VHS of the international version, and was impressed yet again at how well all of its seemingly not-well-connected parts worked together.

I heard a while back that Wenders was prepping this flick for DVD, using the 250 minute "Trilogy" Version. I've heard nothing since. Can anyone tell me whats going on with that???????????

Also, feel free to share your thoughts about this hypnotic film.

I heard that too - and also nothing since. Great movie, I'd buy it in a second. I've never seen the "long" version, just the theatrical release. Goes great for the first hour and a half, appears to be wrapping up loose threads... then swerves off completely, goes into a different type of movie which is just as good as the first part. Also, well named. How long is this movie? 'Until The End of the World'

I was lucky enough to see the UTEOTW Trilogy a few years ago and it adds a lot to the movie - like the meaning of "Broken Ladder". There have been a lot of rumors about the DVD, but for the latest news, check out Brent Aliverti's page or Wim Wender's official site.

Wim Wenders is cool. He directed the new Eels music video. Check it out here.

edit: it is the video Souljacker Pt. 1

to Jellyodyne.

The US theatrical release was 165 minutes, the bootleg I got runs 190 minutes, and the Trilogy version runs at least 230, maybe more (can't remember)

Wings of Desire is a great film. Beautiful images and great story. I am glad that when Hollywood did City of Angels, it was totally different than the original that it was based on.

I have heard great things about UTEOFW and I hope it does make it to DVD soon. Maybe this year.

I got the impression from the official site that the problem is, Wim is first doing German commentaries for German editions. So it may be awhile... He's been saying it would be out for YEARS now.

Update

Wim Wender's official site has updated the status of Until the End of the World to "in preparation (directors cut)". Who knows what that means for a release date, but its a start.
