Top 100 DVDs Census

I and another member at DVDTalk have done these "Top 100 DVD Censuses" a few times now, but we'd like this one to be even bigger and better. All you have to do is list what in your opinion are the 10 best DVD releases - taking into factor the quality of the movie, audio/video quality, and extra content.

Voting ENDS DECEMBER 16. A link to the results site will be posted on Sunday, December 17.

See the rules for voting and calculating results in next post.

Here are the rules that my assistant (darktrippers, not sure if he posts here much) wrote:

What are your favourite movies on dvd? Here is an attempt to compile the ultimate listings.

List your Top Ten favourite discs in your collection (taking into account the extras, the video/audio quality, as well as the movie itself), in order of preference. Mark draws if applicable. Points will be divided between them thus: 1st, 7 points/2nd, 6 points/3rd, 5 points/ 4th, 4 points/ 5th-10th 3 points each.

eg.
1st = 7 points
1st = 7 points
3rd = 5 points
4 = 4
4 = 4
6 = 3
7 = 3
8 = 3
9 = 3
10 = 3

IMPORTANT: If all Ten Films are equally placed, the order you write them will be taken into consideration.

Related links at DVDTalk (I apologize, but at least there are a lot of people there):
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=160491 (people's votes)

Current results (as of yesterday): http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...postid=1775960

I understand some of you here also post there. If you've already voted there, please do not vote again here. Thanks!

This should be fun!

Sorry, maybe the thread title is deceiving. Could a moderator please change the title to Top 100 DVDs Census - Vote Now for Your Top 10. I think people might be ignoring this thread cause they think they'd have to vote for 100, which would be crazy!

Here's my list of my top 10 movies on DVD. Revised

1) Gone With The Wind
2) The Godfather Collection
3) Apocalypse Now
4) Unforgiven
5) L.A. Confidential
6) The Third Man
7) Toy Story Ultimate Toy Box
8) The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
9) Fight Club
10) The Usual Suspects

To be honest, I don't put a lot of weight on extras when determining my favorite DVDs because a great bare-bones movie is always better than a crappy one packed with bells and whistles.

Good choices, but I should have said this earlier: DVD releases count as one. For example, The Godfather Collection is one. The Ultimate Toy Box - one.

Thanks for voting!

I bought a pack of gum yesterday - Bubblicious - Watermelon. I know everyone's saying "Hold off, there's gonna be a special edition with remastered flavor and at least it won't be in that awful paper wrapper." But you know what, I figured it's worth it. I mean if it's not that good, I can always auction off the rest of the pack on eBay. And then if Bubblicious revisits the Watermelon gum, I can use the money to re-purchase the upgrade.

Wow, guys, response is great! Keep it coming!

It means more calculating work for me, but hey...it's cool, we should be able to get a Top 100 without many ties.

LBPound,

I'd say you can take the list off of this board to use for the final tally, as I've been able to think things over much more since my post on DVDTalk.

I never found out why you got banned, but I got the impression that most people are upset with the decision. Regardless, good luck with this poll, I thinks it's a great idea.

Just an update on this - all votes from the participating sites have been counted - the response has been GREAT, keep it coming!

You must vote by December 15. I'll post the results on Sunday, December 16!

Thus far, some interesting results. I think it's safe to say that this is the largest project of this task and when it's done, it should be the Definitive Top 100 DVDs According to the People List....until next year anyway.

If you haven't voted yet, VOTE!
