I am going to watch this...looks like it'll be fun. The critics seem to like it as well....or is that a bad thing?

I've allready seen the two hour pilot. It's pretty darn interesting and its awesome how its done because in mingles in everyone on the plane in different parts of the show. Very well done.
I think I'll watch this again and record Smallville. -drew-

I'll be watching Smallville tonight, but might record Lost with the VCR.
Reviews of the show in local newspapers seem to be at least halfway optimistic about it.

I do post on this show, so I've seen the first bunch of episodes. It's quite good, I like Abrams, and I should be rooting for it, since I work on it in some capacity, but I can't help but predict this could be a huge dud ratings-wise for the network that couldn't sell us on anything from DINOTOPIA to MIRACLES to KAREN SISCO to MDs to THREAT MATRIX. Given the cost per episode, the challenging storylines, the horrible timeslot, and how hapless ABC is, I'm predicting a PUSH, NEVADA-esque six-episode run.

Lex summed it up for me pretty well. ABC bungled one of my favorite shows of last season, Karen Sisco, so I don't doubt that they'll bungle this up. I just recently got into Alias a few days ago, blind buying season 1, and I can't believe this show made it to 3 seasons.
Like Lost, I think Alias or for that matter any other show with a very deep and complicated mythology always faces the biggest problems because how do you hook viewers on a nightly basis but work around the fact that not all viewers like to get into a commitment to follow a series just to understand what is happening week to week. Somehow the X-Files made that first step, and I hope the Lost does as well, but it's like Gilligan's Island or ST:Voyager, how do they get home without ending the story? You knew week to week that Richard Kimble wasn't going to find the man who killed his wife that week, otherwise it'd be over completely. It's a series that's dependent on it's premise, and as such is a tricky one to sell to viewers. Personally it looks good to me, but the fact that it's up against Smallville seems like a dumb idea. Although Smallville always seemed more like Dawson's Creek w/ superman, so Lost could find an audience with older viewers. Who knows.

I am so pumped for this show.
The reason ABC holds on to Alias is because the show is a critical darling as well as a strong contender every year for awards. It is just about the only thing ABC has that gives them cred in the industry, without it, they would have nothing at awards time. With all the buzz around Lost, many people are saying it is the best new show of the season, Hopefully it will last. Also, many TV execs are enjoying the massive profits from DVD sales, Alias is selling very well and definitely making its money back. Cannot wait until 8:00!

wasn't entirely horrible - dragged a bit, but i liked the editing, and the fact that you didn't see what was moving around the jungle. The premise is cool - although it's hard to tell if this will become a Lord Of The Flies, or Jurassic Park/mysterious Island series at this point.
My only gripe is the enormous amount of commercial breaks! Is this common nowadays? I stopped watching drama shows on tv in the late 90's, and this is absurd. Not only were they breaking every 5 minutes, but some dumb ass lower third graphic kept showing up advertising "The Bachelor" during the show. It's incredibly distracting. |

I didn't notice any more breaks than normal. The first one wasn't until 20 minutes in so the second half hour was ad heavy. I don't recall seeing any bachelor graphics either but I was watching it on HD.
Anyway, I enjoyed the show and look forward to seeing the conclusion of the pilot. There is definite promise. |

My husband and I watched this tonight. We really liked it. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I enjoyed seeing Dominic Monaghan in the show. He did very well and I hope his character will be on the show for as long as it lasts. Which I hope will be several seasons. |

I watched it, and I loved it. It grabbed me from the get-go. They teased the audience enough to get them into the story, and want to see what'll happen next.
My only problem (and it's a very small problem) is with most shows like this, that have a set 'goal' built into the plot. The characters objective is to get off the island, and get home. How long can that go on? It's kind of like Star Trek: Voyager, where the goal was to get home. I just think that this kind of plot makes it difficult to carry thing on too long before they get stale and predictable. But, it also makes me interested in how exactly the writers will deal with that problem, and try to make the storylines fresh and interesting. Still, it was a damn good pilot, and I loved it (like I said above). Unfortunately, I doubt it'll survive, 'cause this just probably won't appeal to the majority of viewers out there.

Yeah, the first break was fine. The only one I had a problem with was the third one when there was about ten minutes left in the show, it came back on for about three minutes, then the show ended.
Yeah, that was annoying. But I'd allready seen it so it was fine. -drew-

I had my VCR recording something else and forgot about Lost. Are they rerunning the pilot anytime soon?

That is great to hear that the show did well. I found that we definitely needed to see the other half of the episode, this episode just did not set up the story well for me. I amhoping that by the end of the pilot next week, I will have a similar WOW factor I had at the end of the first episode of Alias.
That is great to hear that the show did well. I know a lot of people who watched it or at least meant to watch it. Good to know about the October 2nd showing of the full pilot. The show must have been gorgeous in HD. The ABC affiliate in my area has the worst SD picture quality and hissing sound. And I get it through Digital cable! All you people who got to watch this in HD, be thankful for what you have!

Wow... and just when I've all but given up on scripted TV. I caught the show about 15 minutes into it already (missed the damn plane crash) but I was sucked in anyway. Great news that they will be re-running the pilot. I will be sure to set my DVR (plus have the blessing of skipping the damn ads.) So far, so good... now I have to tune into ABC for something other than Monday Night Football.
