Serenity Sequel possible on Sci-Fi network

HOT SHIT (if true)

Quote:
December 1, 2005 - IGN FilmForce has heard that, although it was very disappointed in the poor boxoffice showing for Serenity, Universal may not have retired Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his renegade crew just yet.

Sources said that, given the strong sales of the TV series Firefly on DVD, Universal is planning a sequel film to Serenity that will be produced with and to broadcast premiere on the Sci Fi Channel, which is part of the NBC Universal family.

The project is said to be a lower budget undertaking streamlined for the small-screen.

IGN FilmForce checked with Joss Whedon's camp who denied the claim; Universal did not comment.

Time will tell if this rumor pans out.

SciFi does air the series now and they do air a lot of direct-to-video kind of "original" movies. But I think all the higher-ups are waiting to see the movie's DVD sales before tossing the franchise to the lions.

If they do it well like they did Battlestar Galactica then I'm for it.

I don't see any reason not to do it. Firefly was a TV show first, and even the movie wasn't exactly on the high end budget wise. They don't need lots of special effects (other than some ship scenes), and really Firefly the series was always slower paced and foccused on story. Assuming Joss is involved and they get the cast back, there's no reason this shouldn't be just as good as the series.

Now, if they'll just do the Buffy/Angel/Spike movies...

I hope this happens. I don't care what form it takes, I want more Firefly! I'm sure getting the cast back won't be a problem, most of them describe it as the time of their lives.

I'll keep wishing for more until it sucks. But I'm not sure if it ever will.

Well after ripping on Joss in the Serenity thread I did finally get the Firefly set and REALLY dug the whole western outer space thing and the different chemistry every character has with every other charater is great. Hell even a series of mini series movies could be cool.
