To be honest, I watched the first episode and found it rather dull. And none of the commercials since then have really grabbed me in any way.

I've been following the series, but it's been kind of uninteresting to me since they brought it back for the last remaining episodes. Coming up after Alias and Lost, Invasion just seems slow and uninteresting in its pace.

I don't clearly remember what happened on last week's episode. Russell got suspended for trying to keep the park shut down, and I think that's when Jesse and some other school punks, getting freaked about by the personality changes of classmates, ambushed the one-armed deputy in a swimming pool, but then Jesse changed his mind and saved him from any further injury. I think Tom also found out about Szura not doing what he was supposed to, so Tom switched sides. Ariel's teacher seems to be teaching stuff not normally expected in grade school. Can't remember anything else.

the first few episodes were terribly slow. my roomate is like addiucted to this garbage though, so i've seen it recently, and it's actually improved. Not to the point where i can sit through a whole boring episode where the plot never really develops (it's an alien show though, so what do you really expect), but i can objectively say the show is improving. (And obviously, this is coming from a "hater").

i remember reading it was supposed to not get renewed though. not sure if that is changing, but....

I've been with it since it started, but I think I watch it now more out of habit than because I actually dig it. The pacing is incredibly slow, and yet the tension is almost nonexistant. They've tried upping the antagonism by bringing in Zura as a main character, but... I don't know... it's all rather weak sauce. The hybrids would be more a threat if they could actually do something more than breathe under water and heal sorta quickly. These have got to be the most pathetic alien invaders I've ever seen.

Yeah, the finale was pretty meh.
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Underlay killed Zura, so that big threat was done in. The military swept in and arrested all of Zura's people, so that threat was done in too. The pregnant hybrids were taken to the water by Mariel and Russell, where they were taken by the glowing orange water aliens to god only knows where. The mental white guy who was holding Larkin (oh so yummy!) and the kids hostage ended up shooting Larkin in the chest near the end of the episode, and since Underlay knew of no other way to save her, you see him carry her near-lifeless body to edge of the ocean. The camera swirls around him there at the water's edge, looking all lost and sad, and then it pulls back to show that his arms were now empty. The last shot is Russell asking him what had happened and where Larkin was. So, we ended the series with no real badguys, no solid path for the future, and the only thread really worth wondering about being the fate of Larkin. For a meh series, the finale was just more meh. Too bad...

I saw the finale, and Reaver summed it up pretty good. The show hasn't been picked up by ABC for next season, but there's a slim chance it could be picked up by a cable network. From what I've read, though, this show had a pretty big budget for a TV show (considering the numerous CGI scenes, and all the heavy rain scenes), and without blockbuster ratings like Lost, it's unlikely it'll get picked up.

0 for 3 for all the alien-type shows this season, with the competition from the other networks, Threshold and Surface.

i have to admit I was excited when the previews started last year, I thought well this could work, and I watched the first few episodes and it just seemed like there was way too much build up and never any pay offs. I often wondered how it could go past 2 seasons. I'm guessing shows like this are better left to cable and not network. I might pick it up on dvd

No, it can be done on the networks. They just have to be smarter about it.

The reason i said that is because of the how the networks schedule their programing. They hype every show starting in August, then Sept comes and the shows start off great and they run through till Nov. November and December each only give us 2-3 new episodes and they're off till late January, they run a few new episodes and take another month off, March comes and they have to run recap shows and then 2 eps, 3 weeks off and then finally 3 weeks of new shows that includes the season finale. I liked this show but with this kind of scheduling its hard to keep up on a show like Invasion where each episode leads into the next. You look at FX and other cable networks, they run their seasons almost straight through w/o long gaps. Maybe the networks need to start restructuring their schedules, maybe run till Thanksgiving and then fro Dec-Jan and maybe Feb, they're repeats, at least then you know when Thanksgiving comes around there won't be any new episodes until say the first week in february and then you run the recap show and straight through till May sweeps

completely agree. This is what Fox has done with 24 to a great deal of success, since the rating for this past season were some of its highest.

From my brief skimming of this thread, I gather that this was a pretty uninteresting show. I did, however, watch a few of the beginning episodes when it aired last season and quickly lost interest. Did this show ever pick of the pace? Did it the series end on a big cliffhanger? I am considering picking this up as a blind-buy, but that seems unwise based on a few of the responses. How does this rate compared to the Taken mini-series?

Thanks!

It ended on a cliffhanger, but when the last episode finished I felt pretty meh about it. It was like they never expected the show to make it past half a season, so they didn't put enough thought into actually making the story deep enough. It was weak all the way through. And, that's a damn shame, as some of the characters were pretty good, and the story could have been handled well enough to make it interesting should they have tried harder.

I wouldn't recommend you buy it. Nor Threshold. Nor Surface.

Kind of hard to recommend as a blind buy. It didn't ever become as good as I might have hoped for. Like Reaver says, some of the characters were pretty good and interesting on their own, but collectively, the show didn't really bring any bold or exciting concepts to surprise or wow the audience.

I'd only recommend it as a blind buy if you could get a great deal for the boxset, like $20 or less. Otherwise, it's probably not worth it.

I caught a few episodes here or there. Which was probably bad because I found it somewhat confusing. I guess the commercials for the premiere made it seem very exciting, but I never tuned in to see it.

Now I'm not even sure I want to Netflix the season. I caught the first few episodes and it was dull. You guys said it didn't pick up so I probably won't waste my time. Ganthc is right, the previews for this show were great.

I just finished this show over the weekend. I have to admit it wasn't a great show by any means, but it was interesting, and although a bit slow, it kept a steady pace.
