ABC's full length episode streaming in effect

Just watched last weeks episode of Lost on ABC.com (Commander in Cheif, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, and Alias also appeared. The player uses flash. Standard quality is about 500x282 and you can zoom it to about 700x395. Sound is adequate quality, although it left a lot to desire in the lower frequencies. The player allows you to skip ahead, but not past the next commercial (which are marked on the timeline). The ads open up with a big background banner and video in the middle. They are not skippable (for the first 30 seconds), they are recorded MUCH louder than the show itself (with no volume controls). Overall, in the off change I miss a recording of one of my favorite shows, this provides a fairly nice way to watch it legally and for free. I would much rather watch commercials than pay $2.00 on iTunes for lower quality videos. This is definately a broadband service only. On my 6Mb/s connection, the player was very responsive, with the video stream picking up immediately upon clicking forward in the timeline.

When I heard about this I got all excited about being able to watch Lost over here in South Korea. But then once it launched I went to the site only to find out that you can only watch them if you're in the States . CBS' online coverage of the NCAA tournament online worked great for me over here, so I had high hopes for this. Oh well.

Huh, that really blows. I'm sure there's a reason, but probably not a good reason why they chose to do it that way.

I couldn't get it to work. It just sits there with the ABC logo...

Paying for already aired sup par quality tv in a tiny resolution box? I don't think so. Maybe if they where good shows (GA and DHW excluded) and the complete catologe was availible.

It's free (at least for right now), and they're planning on putting up entire current seasons of the shows for viewing.
