that's too bad. with the exception of the overused word "cocksucker" and other unnecessary profanity, this was a great show.

Along with the cancellation of Carnivale, this proves that HBO has a lot of absolute morons running the place. This is by far the best show on TV right now, and if this comes to pass, it won't even give the series a proper resolution/ending, since this news came about I believe after the 3rd season was completed.

I know if HBO doesn't make a 4th season, I'll probably be cancelling my subscription once The Sopranos ends next year.

On IMDB - there will be two 2-hour specials produced to wrap up the story lines.

And for how long has Oz been on air? I don't see how deadwood can be canned, and Oz went for so long.

At least they are willing to end this one properly. As opposed to us Carnivale lovers.

I wonder how this will be released... Will they throw them in with Season 3 and up the price, or release each one as a movie, or both together as a mini-series sort of thing?

My money's on the last one. Anyway, glad to hear the series will get an ending. I hate watching stuff that doesn't... I thought Deadwood was popular enough for this to never be an issue, but I guess I was confusing enthusuast popular with mainstream popular.

As for Carnivale, one person tells me it ended, another tells me it was a cliffhanger. I wish people would give me a clear message on that sucker.

I've started Deadwood Season 2 right now. I can't see why this show is going away, but I am glad that they will put the finishing touches on it.

F-bombs and c*cksuckers...

I just started watching the series and don't have the dvds to watch the extras...what did the "powers that be" say about their choice of using alot of modern day profanity? Was it to try and show present day viewers how filthy the language of that time period would have been to those in that time? If so, I understand their choice - I don't agree and think that the profanity issue really has harmed the show which, IMHO, could have been the greatest modern day western series ever. Great acting, great scripts, great casting, great filming - it's just too bad.

Perhaps it was to show the difference between the civility of Ms. Garrett, and the behavior of those in the wilderness. However, I do agree that they did go overboard in the first few episodes. It calms down more in later parts of the series.

I definately think the over-the-top cussing went away eventually. I'm watching season two now, and the words are almost poetic, not vulgar.

Yes, a great way of putting it. The first like 4 episodes were just out of hand. But since then they use it almost comedically.

Do you think the scriptwriter has macros set up for writing the words "fuck," "fucker," "cocksucker," and "cunt"?

Or maybe they are just randomly added.

As for Carnivale, I have heard the story was originally intended to be told in three parts of 2 seasons each. So the different views of the ending in season 2 is understandable.

I do like how these play out like one big movie. The scripts are getting better as I go through the first season. It is a weird show, I just can't help but keep watching it. I love Al, what a great bad guy character.

Season 3 was the best yet now that I have seen it... I even liked the ending a lot, which a lot of people told me sucked. Not much of a series ending though, so let's see those movies!

You're right about the overuse of the word "cocksucker", but I laugh every time Jane says it when she's drunk which she nearly always is.

The language is so filthy that I won't let anyone watch it with me. I say that my decade in the Army has poisoned me to such talk and my wife, brother-in-law, brother etc should not expose themselves to it despite how GREAT this show is.

Those movies better get made. Also, I haven't seen Season 3 yet. Need to go down and get it now that it has been released.

I have to agree. I curse up a storm as part of my everyday vocabulary. But when Deadwood first came out, I caught a few episodes over at my mom's house since she has HBO. I couldnt stop squirming because I knew she was having problems with the language because it was so excessive. I manage to get thru the entire season. But from then on Ive watched it by myself so as not to make anyone else uncomfortable.

True! Mr. Wu's use of the word is nearly as funny as Jane's.

I watched the whole season of Dexter in like 2 days when it was still in Showtime On-Demand. I really liked that show.
