Stargate anyone?

I just found out that they are re-releasing the Stargate SG-1 series in 10th anniv. special ed. sets that are not only now cheaper, but also have a sneek peak at season 10.

Now I have to re-buy seasons 1 and 2 so my sets match. This sneek peak had better be good!!!

Meh... I'm not sure what I'll do. I'd really like to have the new packaging, because the current sets are HUGE (5 DVD cases thick) but I don't really want to spend money to rebuy something I've already got if I don't have to. If the discs were damaged in any way, I'd get a new set, but just the packaging? I dunno.

Prolly just buy some 5-disc cases online and print up my own covers.

shit please don't tell me they're changing the packaging on all new seasons, I have the big boxes and I don't want to have to retrograde them to match.

They are. Seasons 1-8 are being rereleased in the new slim packaging, and Season 9 and onward will adopt the new format.

I would be interested in just buying the new fangled packaging to save some space. Eight seasons of the boxes really wastes a lot of shelf & I would prefer packaging ala Atlantis S1. BUt no way am I repurchasing 8 seasons. I don't care what they add.

I'm with dwette, shit, I don't want to rebuy 8 seasons worth of dvds, but it'll bug me now that all the other dvds will look odd next to the slimmer seasons.

All of the new seasons seem to be adopting the new slim cases. Kinda nice, unless you already have a set or two in progress. The bottom line is that you have the show to watch when you want.

If the new slim versions can be had for really cheap... Like $29.99 or something... I might give the show another try. I did not like season one when I saw it before though.

Season One was pretty weak, I gotta say. I almost didn't make it through to Season Two. That said, "SG-1" never becomes a truly great show, but it does become very entertaining. Seasons 3 through 7 are pretty solid; the plots are all recycled from "Star Trek", but the cast's chemistry and the humor of the show make it more watchable than it has any right to be.

For example, the Season 4 episode "Window of Opportunity" has Teal'c and O'Neill repeating the same day over and over. When "Star Trek" did it, it was pretty serious; the ship explodes over and over. When "Stargate" does it, O'Neill passes the time by getting away with stuff he could never do otherwise, like riding his bike through the base hallways... or hitting golfballs through the Gate decked out in full golfer attire.

totally agree with you, Battlestar Galactica (the new/good one) is a great show. But SG1 and Atlantis are fun enjoyable popcorn style shows.

They never take themselves seriously at all, even when they do they never get so serious that it kills the mood.

I think they're supposed to be like $32. Which means It would be way worth it if I just sold the first 2 seasons I have, and buy the smaller packaging!!!

If you feel you need to rebuy season sets to just get a 5 minute preview of season 10 and to match the rest of your box sets you need to step back and take a look at yourself. Better yet send the money to me, I can use it for something usefull, like rent.

The rereleases of these sets are probably more for the retailers sake than anything else. With every single tv show getting season sets shelf space is dwindling. The added "feature(s)" is probably only to make it look like it was planned all along.

Awesome. I have some of the first season sets but i havent picked up anymore because shows like this (ST TNG as well) are just too expensive for me to spend the money on. But if prices drop i may just try and pick some up. maybe one a month, that would take me less than a year.

Stargate was never that expensive, like $45 a season. Now they're $35, a drop, but not on the level of TNG going from $130 to $60.

I don't care much about packaging... but I do care about shelf space, which is currently dwindling at an alarming rate.

It just always seems like a hit if i dont start buying from the beginning. so now i they have a permanant price drop for the new cases, i will wait for a sale to come along where they will be 25 bucks or so.

I might have to see if I can find the old style sets, as I have Seasons 1-6 of the old style. If not, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it.

All the slim case packaging sets (1-8) are $29.99 at HMV. Best deal anywhere in Canada. I've seen the sets in other stores (Wal Mart, Music World etc) range from $35 to $44 CAD.

You can find them used pretty cheap on amazon.com.
