Extra's (Season 1-2)

Having just completed 90210 (season 2), did anyone catch a young whippersnapper Walton Goggins (The Shield's Shane Vendrell)? Shit...he had the Jason Preistly and Luke Perry Hairdo mo-jo working. I've never seen Walt with so much thick, THICK hair. And the teeth! It's a hoot to have seen him playing a frat, the complete opposite of Shane.

Well, that's what keeps the tension going in these series. When the couple finally gets married or one of them dies, yadda yadda, the show usually ends. People tune in to see the sexual tension and relational woes of Veronica and Logan. They don't want to tune in all the time and see them happy and kissing. Conflict generates viewership.

I agree that it does get tiresome. Kind of like every other show (90210, Melrose Place, Smallville, One Tree Hill, ad infinitum), but the formula has been shown to work.

Unfortunately, for the show, it didn't generate enough viewership because now it's cancelled.

I don't really agree... something like Moonlighting maybe I would, or those crappy soaps you listed, but I don't watch Veronica Mars in eager anticipation of whether her and Logan will get back together this week or not, I watch it for the cute detective stuff. So the constant soap opera crap annoys me... they're good together, it works for the show, leave them alone.

Maybe that's me, but the "let's break them up constantly just to do it" thing hurts the show, IMO.

Oh trust me, as a guy, I agree with you. But for Veronica it goes with the character. Smart in life, unlucky in love. She is almost too smart for her own good, and her inability to fully trust someone (except maybe Duncan) she is dating is the reason for her relational struggles. So there are the long reaching detective things she did, but then there is also the stresses she deals with Logan on, his seemingly incapability of growing up and being responsible, and her need to control things. I'm sure for a lot of people it probably has some impact.

I mean how many times did Ross and Racheal go through the same thing on "Friends." People tuned in to see that stuff. The formula has shown to work with audiences. I think it's the rest of us that get tired of the same old thing.

Yeah... I guess it's a compliment to the show that I enjoy their chemistry so much, and the Logan character so much, than when they're apart it's a worse show.

I remember in Buffy I didn't care whether she was with Angel that week or not, I just wanted to see her kick ass... so maybe Gellar and Borneaz weren't as good with the chemistry. I dunno.

I did kind of wish Buffy and Spike has been together when the two series ended though... sorta.

Just finished Veronica Mars: Season 2. I loved the show, and can't wait for Season 3 to come out. I just wish the show hadn't been cancelled...just as I discovered it.

Now starting Dead Like Me: Season 2.

police squad

I'm also done the Police Squad DVD. Probably the only complete tv series available on a single disc!! It was probably also one of the first TV-on-VHS ever available.

While I now find the Naked Gun movies hard to watch and dated humour, the PS show has virtually all of it's visual gags stand-up. Some of the non-PC jokes are even funnier now because no studio would dream of doing a joke like the "Private Japanese Garden".

It's also got commentaries of half of the episodes and a gag reel - rare for a show that's 25 years old.
