So what are they trying to tell us. Desmond traveled through time or it was just a dream.

Kinda mixed episode for me, only because I fell asleep during the last 15 minutes. Not necessarily because it was a boring episode, but I was just exhausted after a long work day. Not the first time I've fallen asleep watching a 10PM show, usually drifting in and out by 10:30PM. I did wake up during the last 2 minutes to see Desmond explaining how he's doing all this to save Charlie, but am not sure what lead to that. I'll have to watch next week's 9PM rerun to catch the scenes I missed.
Was it just me, or did the actress playing Penny look a lot like Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays Juliet? When they announced the addition of Elizabeth Mitchell to the cast, I thought she was playing Penny, who briefly appeared in the season 2 finale. Talk about confusing. For the most part, I enjoyed the episode, as I like the Desmond character and the actor who plays him. I had been waiting for an episode to explain his backstory

A bit off topic, but wasn't Darren Arronofsky supposed to direct an episode of LOST last season?
Did he ever? IMDB doesn't list it.

He was scheduled to direct, but had to back out. But he said he wants to direct an ep at some point.

Well, the ratings are not looking good for the show since it came back on the air last week. Last week pulled in 14.5 million viewers, far lower than the 17+ million in the first 6 episodes, and the 20+ million last season. This most recent episode with Desmond's backstory pulled in only 12.8 million viewers, the lowest ever for the show.
Will the audience numbers continue to dwindle during the 14 remaining episodes? If it dips to under 10 million, the show is toast. Besides the extended hiatus, the switch to the 10PM timeslot seems to have really hurt the ratings, even more so than if it remained at 9PM against the juggernaut American Idol.

"Stranger In A Strange Land" was a great episode. I know, I can already hear the "I didn't get enough answers!" protests raised, but I don't care. So long as they can keep giving these characters depth and increasing the drama, I'm in it for the long haul. Loved it.

I really enjoyed it, too. More than the last episode. Interesting back story with Jack. Kind of strange seeing Bai Ling (is that her name?) in it. Wasn't expecting that.
I can't help but wonder if there's going to be some romantic moments with Jack and Juliet. I do prefer Kate with Sawyer, so I wouldn't mind Jack and Juliet getting together.

Another solid episode. I don't usually care for Jack's flashback stories, but I found myself quite interested in last night's story. Seeing the lovely Bai Ling as a guest star was a surprise to me, as I've usually seen her only in movies. A little bit surprised that we're seeing other members of the Oceanic flight finally appearing for the first time, at least to Jack. I guess they weren't considered prisoners, and Kate and Sawyer never saw any of them when they were performing the manual labor when they were captured.
Also glad to see more of the Others, and the sort of dynamic going on within the group. I found the new older woman, Isabel, quite intriguing, wondering how she fits into the group, and seems to be the matriarch of the group, second only to Ben. I'm also becoming more interested in the relationship between Alex and Ben. If Ben is indeed Alex's actual father instead of some sort of stepfather, that means he's been on the island at least as long or longer than Rosseau. I hate to see the ratings dwindling for this show, as it is still among the best on TV today.

ugh, i didnt think last nights episode was that good.
abc said three things would be answered... i dont remember a single thing. the producers did say they had nothing to do with that, so i dont blame the show. i was just expecting something different.

CTV up here does it right and shows it earlier (though I watched it time-shifted at a later time last night), and I must say I enjoyed last night's episode. It wasn't anywhere near the best episode of Lost, but I really like Jack's character so more of him is good in my books. I actually felt that the kate/sawyer scenes felt a little tired, except for the very last one - I almost felt sorry for sawyer there.
I think the reason that the other tailies hadn't been seen before was due to the fact that jack/kate/sawyer were at the zoo station instead of at the others' subdivision on the main island, which it sounds like most of the others stay at most of the time, they all just came over to the zoo station for Juliet's verdict... |

I thought it may have been the worst episode of the series. No problem with the execution but it simply gave no answers, no new mysteries, no plot advancement, no back story that revealed anything of substance for a character. Lost episodes are far and few between when they don't hit on at least a couple of those. Oh well. I haven't given up on the show and I'll be watching next week and the week after that and the week after that and...

The plot has advanced, the only problem is that even though it's advancing we still don't know why any of this is happening.
After all this time, no one has bothered to ask "the Others" the two stupidly simple questions that should have been first on everyone's mind: Who are you? Why are you doing this? I think I'd feel better about the show even if we weren't getting answers, if only I felt like the characters were even bothering to figure it out. In the end, I think "Lost" will end up a show better suited for DVD than for weekly broadcast. Because then I can watch it all in a couple of months instead of feel like it's dragging on for yeeeeaaaaaarrrrrssss.

Yeah, three big questions will be answered was such a bullshit promo.
Apparently the producers thought Jack's tattoo's was a big mystery. We already knew the Others took the kids and the adults. We still don't really know WHY. The half-ass answer we got was "because we give them a better life". I do seem to remember in past episodes Jack asking "who are you people?", but never getting a straight answer. In the end, it was a good episode but I didn't feel like anything big was answered. Also Bai Ling is a frackin' dog and can't act for shit. I vomit a little in my mouth every time I see her on screen.

It seems like Lost is best when you take 2 baby steps forward and then one big step backwards. Reveal a couple clues that may clear somethin and then an even bigger question is popped. This week, we got no steps forward or backward. Just stood there.

Great scenes between Sawyer, Jin, Charlie, & Hurley when they were around the VW van. Nice to see Jin finally attempting to speak English, especially when Sawyer was teaching him the 3 phrases that all men need to tell women. The ending was predictable, though, once I realized that I saw Mira Furlan's name in the credits but hadn't seen her in the whole episode, so I knew Kate was looking for Rosseau. We already knew that Alex was Rosseau's child, but I don't think that fact was ever revealed on the show. I ran across that info when reading articles about the show. Judging from Rosseau's reaction, it makes it more obvious that Ben is Alex's adopted stepfather, rather than Ben and Rosseau having a child together, which never quite seemed right. Once again, fantastic episode. And the ratings from last week indicated a slight uptick in audience, drawing 12.95 million viewers, in comparison to 12.8 million the week before. I'm glad the show is back from the hiatus because it still is one of the best shows on TV.

Actually they had said in the first season that there was a girl named Alex who was Rousseau's daughter and either later that season or in season 2 they showed the flashbacks of claire in the medical bunker and they show Alex helping her escape and that's when we learned that alex was rousseau's daughter. At least it was pretty obvious to me.
I do agree though, that last night's episode was really good, it was a very fun episode. I think that the map that Sawyer found where they were depicting the dirt road might come in handy at some point... |

Now that was a great fucking episode.
Wonderfully well-acted final scene between Sayid and the woman he tortured. Even brought a tear to my eye.
