Lost Season 3

I would assume to say that Spoilers will be discussed here:

Ok guys, what'd ya think?

Personally I think it was one of the best premieres ever. I wondered how they'd carry the episode w/o the rest of the cast and just focus on Kate Jack and Sawyer. I think is shaping up to be the best season, esp with what the first 5 minutes gave us

I can't imagine saying that after only one episode, but it was quite good. Loved the first few minutes.

Was pretty good, but I have a feeling BSG's season premiere will rock my socks more.

I say that Titleist because i've been waiting all summer to find out about Henry Gale and the Others and with the videos about the numbers from over the summer I just have a feeling this season will be better then the last.

I hear BSG is a great show but i've never been into it so but enjoy none the less

This season should be better, but that aint saying much, since they lowered the bar last season but picked it up with the finale a bit.

My only real complaint about tonight's episode is that I wanted more. Can't wait till next week's episode.

VERY similar opening like last season, with the misdirection, but so damn cool nonetheless.

Awesome start to the season. I really like Juliet so far, and Ben (The Artist Formerly Known as Henry Gale) is still as creepy as ever. Loved the interaction between Sawyer and Kate in the cages, great unspoken feeling there.

Is it next week yet?? I want more, now.

Sawyer, caged up like an animal. Hilarious.
What's with the torturing "Henry" said Kate would endure over the next couple of weeks? I can't wait for that to unfold.
Juliet looks a lot like Jack's ex wife. Maybe that'll play into something.
A bit of a blooper. Season 2 started with the crash of the tail section. During that opener, we saw it fall from nothing but clear sky. Last night we saw it from a different angle which clearly showed it coming in from over a different part of the island.
It's nit-picking I know but still.
Zeke. A sort of good bad guy? He commented on the wounds on Kate's wrists and said he'd get her some antiseptic, but didn't apologize for who ever caused them. Is this some sort of hazing they need to endure before they become part of the Others?
Very good episode.

If you wear handcuffs too tightly for too long, they tend to really tear up your wrists.

Anyways, great start to the season (and what's with the Mama Cass love?). Loved the Planet Of The Apes homage in Michael Giacchino's score when Sawyer gets released from his cage and makes a break for it. And how did Jack escape from his cage?

That wasn't Mama Cass. It was Petula Clark singing "Downtown". Which was written by Tony Hatch. Hatch? Hmmmmm.

And Jack escaped from his cage by attacking Juliet when she opened the door to bring him some food.

I know, but didn't "Zeke" make a comment about somebody doing that to her? I suppose he could have been referencing Ben since he's the one that made her wear them, but to me it seemed like she had been beaten a bit. When she got to the cage she certainly appeared to be a person who had just been under great duress, not somebody who had just eaten a breakfast on the beach. Not to mention she was hungry enough to eat the fish biscuit.

I remember Zeke saying something like "they tend to do that" in reference to her wounds (can't remember the dialogue exactly), but I took it to refer to the handcuffs and the fact that Ben told her to make 'em tighter on her wrists.

I thought it was odd though, like you said, that Kate was hungry enough to eat the fish biscuit. Didn't she just have some bacon & eggs?

Like everything on this show, I guess it just has to be ambiguous as hell.

I interpreted the scene as Kate not eating the bacon & eggs on the beach, maybe being stunned by the news that Ben/Henry told her that the next 2 weeks would be very unpleasant. That's why she wanted the fish biscuit.

Pretty good premiere overall. Not quite as good as last season with the reveal of the hatch and Desmond, but still pretty good. Happy to see the lovely Elizabeth Mitchell added to the cast as Juliet, as I enjoyed her tense scenes with Jack. You can tell that there is some friction between her and Ben/Henry, especially after Ben/Henry almost let her drown with Jack.

Overall, an enjoyable premiere. I'm definitely looking forward to next week's episode.

I just rewatched the first scene of the premiere at abc.com and i noticed some stuff

Juliet when she puts the cd in, looks miserable like shes thinking why is she doing this when its not really her life.

Why show us the Stephen King book, I wonder what/if any signficance that means

Henry Gale/Ben's remark "I guess this means i'm out of the book club" to me that means that they have been waiting for something like this or have done this before. Henry showed up last season at what 50 days after the crash? so maybe did it take him that long to get his story together or did he stumble on Henry Gale and figure he'd use that as an excuse.

I also wondered about the significance of the book.

I'm not sure what to make of Ben's comment. My first impression was something alone the lines of him expressing some kind of displeasure. Based on other scenes in the episode (i.e. the last scene), it seemed evident to me that there is some kind of rift between the too, and that may tie into your comment about her demeanor at the beginning of the episode.

At any rate, I loved the premier; I think. I'm still itching to know what happened in the hatch, so there is of course some disappointment in having to wait. And, although I can appreciate the lack of detail about what was going on, as we are essentially seeing events from the viewpoint of our 3 captured survivors, who also don't know what the hell is going on... I was still somewhat frustrated. I do believe I felt sincerely *lost* myself; almost claustrophobic in a way. There was a lot to like about the episode, and i can only hope that, what was "missing" will provide material to keep future episodes on par. I can wait, so long as they keep it interesting!

Wondering...was she not listening to the exact same song we saw Desmond listening to when he was introduced towards the end of the first season? If so, is it coincidence that they would listen to the same song, or do they live as a sort of cult where only certain songs and possibly books are allowed?

it was not the same song, the song in the season 3 opener was "Downtown" (i believe that was the name of the song) and the season 2 song was "Make Your Own Kind of Music" recorded by Mama Cass

I definitely thought that there was a rift between Ben and Juliet. The comment I thought was that they are broken up and now Ben isn't invited to the book club.

I liked the premiere except I thought that there were a ton of commericials. It definitely interupted the flow of the episode. I had it recording on my dvr so I guess I could have skipped them but I wanted to watch it live.

I thought it was just me, considering that we just started watching mid-season-2. I avoid new shows, but found Lost while flipping channels: plane was on fire; hey, must be the premier!; nothing else on; hooked ever since. We only caught around 6 episodes of Season 2 as aired, otherwise everything was viewed on DVD. Wednesday, same as you, we simply watched it live because we didn't want to wait, and I had a friend over as well. Anyway, I don't have a feel for what is normal, but the number of commercials did strike me as abnormal. Now, if some were Hanso Foundation commercials.....

In regards to the Stephen King book, remember when Henry/Ben was imprisoned in the hatch and John gave him Dostoyevsky to read. Well, Ben said he couldn't get his head around Dostoyevsky and asked John if he had any Stephen King, but now we know Ben actually hates Stephen King and was still just pretending to be an innocent victim in the hatch.

In regard to the Stephen King book, I think that is just the creators way of tipping their hat to the King of Horror. The creators had made it clear that their huge fans of King, and King is a fan of Lost as well.

If King were to become involved in Lost somehow, perhaps a walk-on (or in) cameo appearence, that would be great.

I still like the show, it's very well done and the characters are good, but I'm getting a little frustrated with the mysteriousness of it all. I would be balling my captors out asking them 'what the hell is going on!?' We now know the others have a suburban paradise in the middle of an island with a smoke monster, and old Japanese experiments.

Speculation as to overall plot:

Personally, with Lock's legs(not to mention what we saw in the preview for next weeks ep), the black womans cancer dissapearing, and the talk in her episode about certain places having a healing effect(something to do with magnetism). I wonder if the others are maybe rich people trying to live forever or something, on an island where no one can die. Maybe the Darhma Initiative was an experiement to keep people busy there, where they could be monitored(see if they age? ). Maybe the people living there bought the Darhma company, and are doing their own The Village thing.

Don't forget Jack's father appearing on the island. We thought he might be a hallucination until we saw his empty casket.

Last nights episode was nothing special. Pretty early for a filler episode if you ask me and since the show is only running for a few episodes early on in the season, then taking a break and coming back next year make it even more of a surprise. I would have thought they'd be hitting it out of the park in every episode early on.
That's not to say it was a BAD episode, because it wasn't. Just, nothing special.

I enjoyed last night's episode much more than the season opener. I admit nothing really happened but I just seemed to like it more. I honestly had a theory last year but it just doesn't fit anymore.

Is it safe to assume the first part of this season before the break will have Sawyer, Jack, and Kate escaping?

Nope. If you participated in the Lost Experience over the summer you would know what the DHARMA initiative was really about, and that ain't it. But, I don't want to spoil things, so I'll leave it at that. But, if you want to know more, watch this...

I also enjoyed this 2nd episode more, but that's probably because I find the flashbacks with Jin and Sun to be more interesting than most of the other characters, except for Hurley, Locke, and Mr. Eko.

I like the present day scenes with Sawyer, Jack, and Kate, but I find their flashback scenes to be not as interesting.

Loved the flirting scenes between Sawyer and Kate, and loved the scene how Sawyer finally revealed his real name to Kate when Juliet said it.

One possible spoiler that I read on the TVGuide.com commentary on the shows, that I didn't know, or was it revealed and I wasn't paying attention, or does TVGuide have inside info that may be revealed later:

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
The girl hiding in the bush that was whispering to Kate is Rousseau's daughter. I guess she's about that age where she could be. Did Rousseau have a baby that was kidnapped by the Others? It's been awhile, and my memory is a bit fuzzy on her story.

And is it just me, or does it seem like the supernatural effects of the island have been kind of dropped out of the storyline and forgotten? You know, the polar bear, the fog creature that Mr. Eko saw, etc. Now that the Others are the main storyline, does it seem like this storyline has been forgotten because it's not as believable and interesting as the background of the Others?
