Battlestar Galactica 4th Season = Last Season

Edward James Olmos say season 4 is the final season

Quote:
iF MAGAZINE: What’s coming up for season four?

EDWARD JAMES OLMOS: It’s fantastic. I think they’re going to discover some very important issues about what the fan base really, really wants to see and what’s to understand about this show. We’re heading into the final season. This is the final season as we speak. All of us are very saddened by that, but we always knew there was going to be a conclusion and we would find Earth, so we will be finding Earth this season. I wish it would [keep going]. I could do 10 years like this season. I think that this is some of finest usages of television that I have been a part of in my life. Bar nun. I’ve been doing this for 42 years. I’ve done some really good work in television and motion pictures but there really is nothing like this show. I can honestly tell you that this is one of the finest dramatic pieces work on humanity I’ve ever seen in my life.
What does everyone make of this? If it's true, I'm fine with it. It's always better that a show go out while they're on top, rather than slowly fade away (ie. The X-Files).

Of course, can we trust a site that spells things like "bar nun"?

Considering that there were some rumors of BSG not being renewed for a 4th season, it's not completely surprising. When I compare Season 3 to Seasons 1 & 2, it does seem likely it has more filler episodes (racial episode with Sagitarrons, Chief Tyrol fighting for workers' rights, to name a couple) and some of the character subplots (love quadrangle between Lee-Kara-Anders-Dualla).

Don't get me wrong. I still consider BSG to be the best show on TV, as we had great moments with the rescue on New Caprica, the trial of Gaius Baltar, and even some episodes revolving around the Cylons.

But the ratings have not been that good, even for cable TV, with the show averaging 1.8-2.2 million viewers, which is low compared to other popular shows like the Shield or Nip/Tuck, which average 3.5-4 million viewers.

I think it feels just about right that the 4th season will be its last.

What I really care about is that the show gets RESOLVED. Four years of excellence is better than eight or nine increasingly mediocre seasons only to end on a cliffhanger because the network said you'd be back next season and then changed their minds at the zero hour.

Ronald Moore has said in interviews that he didn't want the show to go on forever - and he's been saying this for more than just recent months when the rumors were circulating that the show would be coming to an end soon. And it seems like Sci-Fi is giving them the time and episodes they need to close it out proper.

So props to Sci-Fi for that. We certainly wouldn't want another situation like "Stargate SG-1" or "Farscape" or "Sliders" or... Jeez, Sci-Fi Channel kinda sucks, huh?

I think saying that season 4 will be the last is premature:

David Eick is refuting what Olmos is saying, and I trust the producer over the actors any day of the week.

LA party for Season 4?

Supposedly Sci Fi is throwing a party in LA on 6/6/06 for the Season 4 premiere, that's just the rumor I heard, looking for some facts on this. Apparently Sci Fi is looking to give back to loyal fans and will be releasing some Season 4 teasers.

Love to know more about this...?

I believe shows like this should have a predetermined end date. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but you can only be "on the run" for so long. Follow the lead of Lost, and set a date. The writers then have a set amount of time to resolve all of their story arcs and you won't have all of the "filler" episodes.

You mean they're going back in time? Now that's giving back to the fans!!

Actor's shouldn't comment on how a show should run, the show runner's should, hence why the final word came down to Eick and Moore.

I agree with you. But there was no reason to make a big stink about how he (EJO) doesn't know what he's talking about...then say the same thing anyway. It would have been better to just admit it wasn't looking good, but they were still working on it, no official word yet, or whatever...until they were ready. No reason to slam the guy.

Well to some degree when Olmos is making statements before the show runners have ironed out their plans it probably pissed Eick and Moore off, I don't blame 'em.

Well I finally got around to finish watching the last 10 or so episodes of season 3. The natural progression of BSG is right on and that last shot of a very familiar place in the cliffhanger! NICE!

I don't know if anyone saw the "women of Galactica" panel from Comic Con but Moore mentioned quite a bit about a new mini series or tv movie that shows alot of back story of the Galactica universe. The first cylon war, some bits and pieces of backstory from seasons 1 and 2. Also he said this will NOT be a resolution of the season 3 cliff hanger, so to me that means is should come out before 4 airs. Of course since we'll see the first cylon war Eick said that means we'll be seeing the original cylons and there original raiders.

That's the miniseries that they're making about the Pegasus. It's been scheduled for a while and will air in November or something I think.

It's a TV movie called Battlestar Galactica: Razor. It's airing Nov. 24 or 25, I'm not sure of the exact date. DVD will be on sale Dec. 4. Season 4 is scheduled to start airing January 2008.

I've seen a couple commercials floating around for it; it looks pretty badass. I'm glad to see Michelle Forbes' Admiral Cain back in action. That season 2 Pegasus arc was awesome.

I agree. To me, that was the best part of Season 2, and I was sad to see Michelle Forbes go after only 3 episodes. I'm actually more excited to see this Razor movie than Season 4 because of her and her Admiral Cain character.

GALACTICA Spinoff CAPRICA
Finding New SciFi Traction??

Quote:
An excerpt from James Hibberd’s TV Week story about an Emmy-night SciFi Channel party:

Most recently presumed a dead project, Sci Fi executives seem to have renewed enthusiasm for [the “Battlestar Galactica” prequel “Caprica”], especially with the looming prospect of losing [“Galactica” mastermind Ron] Moore following the conclusion of “Battlestar.”

Additionally, the story confirms that SciFi is contemplating holding back “Galactica’s” final ten episodes until 2009 – a move that would apparently please NBC Universal’s accountants, even as it infuriates the show’s rabid fan base. TV Week’s source says SciFi will decide in January.

Under this plan, two hours of the series’ final 20 hours would arrive in November as the “Razor” TV-movie, eight would begin unspooling in January 2008 and the final ten would reach their audience in 2009.

Another excerpt:

Moore’s storyline also could make fans demand rapid closure, one person close to the project says, since “when people see the ending of the 10th episode, they’re gonna freak out.”
Oh man, I really hope they don't hold the final episodes 'til 2009. I don't want to have to wait that long!!!

Having to wait through the mid season hiatus is bad enough. Waiting 2 years for a final 10 episodes to a season I know wont fly. People just wont care after 2 years. Plus if they are willing to hold those episodes for that long they won't go weekly they'll probably go one show every other week to drag it out over an almost full season.

Usually they come a few weeks before the new season starts, so I'm guessing they'll come in December.

The BSG: Razor movie will be airing in late November, and coming out on DVD on Dec. 4, so I think Season 3 will come out around the same time.

One would hope; but really what I was referring to is that they haven't even been announced at all. The Razor movie and even the Season 3 soundtrack have had release dates, track lists and artwork available for a while but we've heard literally nothing about the Season 3 DVDs.

I think they'll figure out when they'll air Season 4 first, and then probably schedule the Season 3 box set soon afterwards. December and January '08 releases are just starting to be announced, so I think we can expect some news in the next month.

Digital Bits is now reporting in their Rumor Mill that April 2008 will be the release date for the Season 3 DVDs. This might also mean that Season 4 won't air until around this time, maybe a month later, as has been the norm for DVD release dates and airing for the new season for BSG in the past.

Looks like the April 2008 date is confirmed on the LA Times for the Season 4 airing. Likewise, the Season 3 DVDs will be released just shortly before.

Seems that BSG: Razor is all we'll get soon for our BSG fix.

That's weaksauce. I know it's already been announced that S4 is the final season, but it seems like Sci-Fi likes to do everything it can to make sure no one watches this show anyway.
