Gossip Girl

I saw the first two episodes of this, and I will admit it's a guilty pleasure. Hearing Kristin Bell's sexy voice narrating doesn't hurt either. It's an interesting concept that kind of blends "Heathers" with "Cruel Intentions." I don't know if it will have a long shelf life as a series, but I've been intrigued and will keep watching.

I saw the pilot and enjoyed it, but I won't be watching it on Wednesdays, as it's in the same timeslot as Private Practice & Bionic Woman. The show does reruns on Sundays, which is when I plan to watch it.

Read that the overnight ratings were abysmal for the 2nd episode, though. I'm not sure what these numbers exactly mean, but Bionic Woman won the timeslot, getting a 5.5 share, while Private Practice had a 5.1 share. Gossip Girl had a 1.2 share.

We'll find out more next week when the official ratings are released.

Well, there are some glaring flaws in the show. First, you don't know if you should be sympathetic for the Serena chick...we know nothing about her. Second, the show doesn't give a good cliffhanger ending that wants you to tune in next week. Finally, besides the Humphrey kids, the rest of the cast is despicable, so it's hard to be engaged in their lives sometimes.

Ive heard alot of good things about this show and I came across it channel surfing. And I was like what the fuck is Minka Kelly doing on the show! I started questioning her loyalty to Friday Night Lights.

Upon looking closer I realized it wasn't her. But daaaaaamn. Twin city. Anyone else pick up on this? Am I missing something here? Related in any way?

I don't watch Friday Night Lights, so I had to look up who Minka Kelly is. Yes, she does bear a strong resemblance to lead actress Leighton Meester, who had blonde hair when I saw her on the TV show Surface. She looks quite different as a brunette, and I can see how you can get the two mixed up.

Read another article. The above numbers were for the 18-to-49 demographic, which I guess it the key audience that marketers want. Bionic Woman had 14% of that demographic, while Private Practice had 13%. I guess that would make Gossip Girl having about 3%.

As for overall ratings, Private Practice won the overall timeslot with 14.2 million viewers, while Bionic Woman had 13.6 million viewers. So it's probably likely that Gossip Girl got about 3.5 to 4 million viewers, which would be decent but not great. Smallville normally gets around 5-6 million viewers, while the canceled Veronica Mars last season got around 2 to 2.5 million viewers.

Yeah, I didn't think that the CW was a massive ratings generator anyways, but who knows. Gossip Girl seems to have potentially resolved all the conflicts already. Serena patched up with Dan, Blaire made peace with Serena. What more is there to work with here? Hmm...this show may not last past its 13 episodes.

I think the show seems to fall into the Veronica Mars category, where it is getting good reviews by critics, but nobody with a Nielsen box is watching it. I have watched the first 2 episodes, and it does have promise.

I rarely watch these teen soaps, as I think I saw only parts of the first season of Beverly Hills 90210, and I gave up on the OC after 1 episode. Gossip Girl seems to be better than those shows, and I hope it lasts.

But it is in a killer timeslot, against the two highest rated new shows in Private Practice and Bionic Woman, both with 14 million audience, which is pretty good in these days of declining ratings.

Looks like Gossip Girl has been picked up for the whole season. According to the ratings, the entire CW network has lost viewership from the key 18-34 age group.
