Pushing Daisies

Anyone catch the first episode tonight? I really hope you do because this could be yet another awesome series from Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me) The i guess pilot episode had a very Tim Burton feel to it. Almost a blend of Big Fish/Edward Scissorhands. That finding your true love but cursed with hands that can easily hurt someone. Great cast and a great set of characters to go along with it and i hope they keep up with the narration of the episodes as well. It gives that extra sense of whimsy to the show like George did with Dead Like Me.

Again please give the show a shot and hopefully this will last for a few years unlike Bryan's past awesome shows

Amelie called, it wants its style back. It's an okay pilot, from the one I watched 2 months ago, but it makes a better plot for a movie than a protracted tv series.

I plan to watch it tonight. I like Chi McBride, as he's always fantastic. I've missed him since he was on the Boston Public TV show a few years back.

I enjoyed the pilot, and it's imaginatively written, but can it be consistenly good each week with such a quirky premise? I'll continue watching since there's nothing else to watch in that timeslot, but I have doubts as to whether it can survive a full season.

Since it was created by Bryan Fuller (who I love for Wonderfalls, having never seen Dead Like Me), I had to watch... and I loved it. I dug everything about it, and it had that Wonderfalls-esque quirkiness to it.

I do wonder if the voice-over will continue in each episode, or if it was merely something put in there to guide us through the characters and the overall premise. I liked it, but I just wonder if it's needed.

Regardless, this was one of my favorite new shows on the season (I think Reaper gets my #1 pick).

I thought this show was fantastic. Yes, it borrows from other ideas, like the voiceover narration strikes of Desperate Housewives (though I loved the guy's voice. Almost reminded me of Winnie the Pooh), and I did see some Amelie/Tim Burton influences. But I liked it, and the casting was great. I will keep tuning in.

I watched it, and liked it, but it was trying too hard to be quirky and funny. Wonderfalls did a MUCH better job at that.

So what did everyone think of the latest episode? Personally i'm loving the show and it was cool to see them allow some of their Broadway talent to use their voices on the show. (great musical number too) Glad to see they are keeping the narration in the show as well as it keeps the whimsiness going from the pilot.

Personally this show along with Chuck and Journeyman are my fav new shows to come out this year on tv.

I'm enjoying this show, too. Chi McBride is great as usual, Anna Friel is adorably cute and surprisingly funny, and Lee Pace looks like John Cusack's long lost fraternal twin. Kristen Chenowith's singing was great, as that musical moment fits perfectly into this quirky show.

And Veronica Mars fans should have recognized the bad guy CEO as Patrick Fabian, who played professor Hank Landry in season 3 of Veronica Mars.

I thought the narration was a bit much in the pilot, but it is starting to grow on me.

This is among my favorite new shows, along with Bionic Woman and Life, all on Wednesday night. I like Journeyman too, but haven't seen Chuck yet.

According to Wikipedia, last week the original 13 episode order was extended to a full season by ABC.

However, looking at the ratings for this show, it looks like the numbers are going south in a hurry. This one feels like another Studio 60 in the making.

But last week, outside of the World Series, it was the best rated show in its time slot. It did better than Kid Nation, America's Top Model, and Phenomenon. The week before that it was only behind "Deal or No Deal" which was on NBC in that time slot and the highest rated. I don't see how it's doing poorly, in fact, it seems that would be the reason that it is being kept for a full season.

Didn't think Pushing Daisies was doing bad in its ratings. It had a 6.2/10 rating/share last week in the 18-49 demographic, being in 2nd place in its timeslot, next to Game 1 of the World Series. It regularly beats the Back To You/Til Death comedies normally in that timeslot on Fox.

If there is a show that has plunged from its premiere, it's Bionic Woman, which has garnered a 4.8/7. That has fallen substantially, compared to Private Practice, which had a 8.1/12 rating last week. They both had near identical ratings on the opening week.

I think Pushing Daisies will be fine and get a full season.

Few shows have been canceled this year due to the impending Writers Guild strike, which could happen on November 1. If there are any cancellations, it won't happen until after November sweeps.

Well, I didn't say that it was doing poorly. I said the numbers were going south. (13M on it's first night, then 10.2, 9.8 and 9.6 last week.) Hopefully it can reverse the trend. My point was that I saw this same trend with Studio 60, and look where it is now.

It's possible that it suffers like Studio 60, but I don't think so. It has weak competition, and now that the WS is gone, it will likely get a bump in ratings, like the other shows will. The trend down is possibly due to the playoffs in baseball.

Now i have no idea on how strong the signal strength of our Canadian stations are for the states. We get the episodes up here in Canada on CTV on the Tuesday night and not the Wednesday night liek the steas(although we can still watch on a Wednesday night from the ABC stations) I wonder if anyone with a Dish or just living close to the boarder is just watching it on Tuesday night instead. Oh and tonight's episode was another good one

Taking a look at the overall ratings, Pushing Daisies is one of only 3 new shows cracking the Top 40 in ratings, with all 3 shows from ABC (Samantha Who and Private Practice are the other 2, both in the Top 20). All of the other new shows are ranked 41 or lower.

I think it's safe to say that many other shows will likely be canceled before Pushing Daisies is.

CBS has a pretty good Friday showing with Moonlight. I think the vampire mystique has kept viewers watching. The show isn't half bad either, if a bit cliche. For that night, the ratings are good. It's hard to compare Friday night ratings with other nights. Big Bang Theory has also gotten decent ratings.

Woman's Murder Club, Big Shots, and Ghost Whisperer have also held up their own in the ratings game.

Friday Night Lights, Cavemen, Carpoolers, Life, Journeyman, and Bionic Woman are shows that will be hard to keep on.

I am most disappointed about FNL, Journeyman and Life. Those shows are great IMO. There is some speculation that FNL jumped the shark when they had that guy killed.

Yeah, it did/does smack of a desperation move on their part, which is sad because the show didn't need that angle at all. I dont think killing off the rapist was gonna start a massive influx of new viewers. The only people watching the show right now are the ones that started with it (or hopped on board after the DVD release).

Fridays by nature is a death warrant for most shows since the majority of people are out getting hammered,etc..

I just hope that FNL can last till the end of the season. I really dont want it being pulled with no kind of resolution to the show.

What did everybody think of the Molly Shannon addition last night?

Personally, it wasn't as bad as I had expected. (I'm not a fan of hers.)

I like that they touched on some different aspects of Ned's "ability". (For example, Ned jumping into the leaves, and accidentally touching the brother in the vat of Taffy, and his surprised reaction to that.)

Not a big Molly Shannon fan either, so it wasn't a big deal to me.

Was laughing hard everytime Chuck and Olive referred to themselves as the Pie Ho's after their neon sign was "altered".

I don't think Ned's abilities have changed since they introduced his character. What happened to the leaves and the dead brother in the vat has been pretty consistent with what's happened in all the previous episodes. Ned's touch will bring any dead being back to life, and then a 2nd touch will kill it again. Leaves and fruit count as things that can be brought back to life, as shown by all the dead rotting fruit he kept stored in that locked storage room.

Yes, I realize that nothing has changed with respect to Ned's abilities. However, for the most part, our exposure to them have been with dead people, and the fruit in the pie shop. Jumping into the dead leaves was just a new way to show the same ability in an (obviously unexpected) new way.

I wonder if we'll see more of Molly Shannon's character. Seems like her story arc could be continued. It's fine if it isn't.

I'm going to miss this show when they run out of episodes from the strike.
