Did anyone watch the season premiere...?

I'm glad to see that Stargate Atlantis is bringing sexy back!

That wasn't a season premiere, still on the current season. At least Atlantis isn't affected by the writer's strike.

Yeah, it was episode 11 of 20 for the current season. Episode 1 was back in September when Amanda Tapping was added to the cast. Missed this episode, but will watch the rerun next week.

Looks like this will be the final season of Stargate: Atlantis. There will be a 2-hour movie afterwards, similar to what has happened to the SG-1 series.

It kind of felt like the end was coming, as it never felt the same after Torri Higginson, who played Dr. Elizabeth Weir, left the show. With the cast turnover of Paul McGillion leaving and Amanda Tapping joining for only one season, to be replaced by Jewel Staite and Robert Picardo, there was some consistency missing in the show.

I still enjoy the episodes and am sad to see the show ending, but I could tell it would happen soon.

Sure, I have fun watching it, but "Atlantis" is a ship entirely without a rudder. This show simply had no direction after the first season.

Also, it now looks like "Atlantis" was canned in favor of a new spinoff, "Universe", which will "target a younger audience" :

Sci Fi orders 'Stargate' spin-off--The Live Feed

Quote:
After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.
The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission.

Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny, but only for a brief period of time before carrying on with its pre-programmed navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures.
