It could be seen as a early test of the waters, to gauge reaction from Pixar and from the fans, but Disney Chairman Dick Cook made a comment today that he's leaning towards making a TOY STORY 3 movie a reality.

"My hunch is big screen," Cook told the news service Reuters. "I think it deserves it. These are two of the most beloved characters in the last generation. Buzz and Woody are fantastic characters, and I think that is something that would fit on the big screen nicely."


However, don't make any plans on seeing a new TOY STORY anytime soon. There's no script and no deal in place to reunite the film's voice talent, and then Disney would have to work out which company would create the new CGI film. Cook also left the door open for Pixar to have a hand in making a third TOY STORY, but with contract negotiations declared over between the two companies, the chances of that occurring would be remote.


I really don't know how interested I'd be in seeing a non-Pixar Toy Story.
I'm wondering if Eisner is trying to grab at anything to save himself from getting the boot which it looks like he may be getting.

If for some reason Pixar comes back to Disney and does this, it will be brilliant and I will embrace it wholeheartedly. If Disney creates it (wheather it is Feature Animation or the DTV people) I will boycott it on principle and will consider the series over with the second one. These characters deserve the chance to be given closure by Pixar and Pixar alone.

I am fascinated by just about any computer-animated film that comes along. If Disney does Toy Story 3 w/o Pixar I will just be more interested and in line opening day. I am sure it will lose something w/o Pixar behind them. I would hope that the talent would refuse to come back out of respect for Pixar but I am sure the Disney dollar will win out. I WOULD expect Cliff Claven to refuse though.

Based on the Chicken Little trailer included on the Brother Bear DVD, I don't think that average audiences will see a difference between Disney's Toy Story film and Pixar's.

The real tell-tale signs will be in the small details, and whether they get original voice cast members back. They know the figures - a TS3 - from whoever makes it - will rake in the box office cash.

But this does sound like a DTV - hence the cut backs on voices - as TS2 was meant to be. Hopefully, they will throw more cash at it and make it a true theatrical film, Pixar or not.

Otherwise, the Toy Story series is D E A D.


Disck Cook is basically headging his bets, waiting to see if it's TS3 without Pixar, or TS3 with Pixar (and without Michael Eisner).

Well, either that, or they'll lean back on their TS: The Series idea scrapped a few years back...

This is what irks me besides the possibility of a non-Pixar Toy Story. They are simply talking about making TS3, whereas it should be "We have a great story idea for TS3 that will greatly compliment the first two." No, it is just we forsee making Toy Story 3 with absolutely no idea of a story or plan. Pixar made the movies based on the story first. Not the title. I wish the studios actually cared for the story rather than the sequel.

Yes you can. When the "coming soon" thingy comes up, push "menu" on your remote and they'll skip. I even think there's a box at the bottom that says "push menu to skip" or something like that.


BTW, ceeece, Pixar does have an idea for a real TS3. John Lasseter wanted them to have their advenutre and end up in a kids nursery, where they'll be played with forever more.

Disney's current story simply has them being chased by Al the toy collector from number 2 again. Boring.

Ok, so we all would love to see Pixar make this movie. If that just doesn't happen, who do you think would make the best replacement? I'm not speaking from a "realistic" point of view but speaking hypothetically. Would you all want to see George Lucas and ILM make it?

October 06, 2004 - Disney CEO Michael Eisner has revealed that the company will create two additional installments in the Toy Story franchise. NY Newsday has a report from a Goldman Sachs investment conference in Manhattan where Eisner said, "We're doing two 'Toy Stories' at once."


The partnership between Disney and Pixar terminates after the release of Cars in 2005, and the Mouse will be free to make sequels of their own.

A Disney spokeswoman expanded on Eisner's comments, telling the paper, "They're working on different story ideas with the hopes there will be a Toy Story 3 and another after that." A Pixar spokeswoman declined to comment.

Online reports have hinted that the story for the sequel(s) may be derived from the ending of the original treatment for Toy Story, which tells what happens to the toys when Andy grows up. In the original treatment, the toys find a permanent home in a preschool, where there will always be children to play with.

I think the 3rd movie could work but you can't do it without a) Pixar at the helm of the developement and b) the original voices as well. Well voices might not be a problem really (a few million for a couple days work or percentage of toys/video sales) But with Eisner still hanging around i see no envolvement from Pixar and i hope they don't go a cheap CGI company like they are talking about for the Opus movie and Chicken Little. Oh well i guess will eventually tell us what will actually happen

As an exhibitor, I've been praying for a Toy Story 3. Every month when the new listings of future films come out, we always joke, "Where's Toy Story 3". So, yeah...I'm excited about this one, if all the original people are involved.

Can someone clear the Disney, Pixar thing up for me?

Well best i can explain is that they want more money from their movies but Disney wont seem to budge. So Eisner had tried to work out a new contract with them but again money was the issue (and i think creative control as well) So talks didn't go well and Pixar left negotiations and was basically on the free market for any other studio. Then owrd recently has come out that Eisner would be leaving earlier then expected from his position at Disney come 2006. With CARS being the last Pixar movie for Disney and coming out in 2005 i guess they thought a new beginning with the company could be met and i guess they were all rumours that a new deal could be struct. Whethe ror not that is true has really yet to be determined but so far it doesn't look too good.

If i were Disney i would be saying yes to almost anything Pixar would demand but i gues suntil Eisner is out then nothing solid will be met. I guess Pixar still have a small grudge against him i guess for screwing them on their original contract to deliver 5 original CGI movies. Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo and Cars being those five. Toy Story 2 didn't count as "it wasn't a completely new CGI movie" it was a sequel. Now they want 2 more

What happened to Monsters, Inc. and The Incredibles dude?

I remember reading it all sorta started to crumble going back to when they did Toy Story II. From what I read Pixar was saying they were under the impression that Toy Story II was suppose to be part of their picture deal but it was Disney that said no, it's a sequel so it doesn't count. I also read pretty recently that Steve Jobs said he doubts they'll be working with Disney ever again.
Of course he may be holding out until Eisner is gone.

As for Toy Story 3. Finding a CGI company that can handle the job shouldn't be too hard, it's finding the people to write a story as good as the first two that will be hard for Disney.

Toy Story 3 cancelled?

At the Animated-News Forum, 'ShyVoilet' points to a new post at Animation Nation, where word comes that John Lasseter and Ed Catmull announced to Walt Disney Feature Animation employees today that production on Toy Story 3 has ended. "They said that sequels should only be made if there is a really great story that demands it, and should be the domain of those who created the original film. In other words, if Pixar wants to make a sequel to its films, it will. If Disney Feature wants to make a sequel to its film, it will. But the two will not cross," writes the post's author. Fortunately, Lasseter and Catmull are still interested in the artists of Disney's Circle 7 Animation and will try to find ways to use their talents.

I'm not sure anyone us realized Pixar would have such power under this new deal. I think Pixar is a class act, but surprised they let Disney stop them from cashing in. Lord knows Disney has done nothing but the last few years.

As much as I adore the Toy Story films, it thrills me that a third installment has been abandoned. The second film has the perfect, slightly bittersweet conclusion to these characters, and a third would just tarnish the Pixar legacy. Kudos to Mr. Lasseter for showing such class and restraint!

It was previously reported that Disney's acquisition of Pixar also meant the end of production on Toy Story 3, and that if the film was ever made it would be done by the creators of the original film. Now it looks that is indeed the case, as Bloomberg reports on Walt Disney Company's First Quarter Earnings:

Iger said Disney would release about two Pixar films each year, an increase over Pixar's earlier goal of about one per year. Pixar will take over production of "Toy Story 3," a sequel that Disney's in-house animators had been working on, Iger said.

The version Disney was going to make, before now handing it over to Pixar, would have had Buzz Lightyear being recalled to Taiwan after a series of malfunctions. Learning of a productwide recall, all the toys in Andy's room, under Woody's leadership, were to head to Taiwan to save Buzz from doom.

In related news, Disney said it expects to release Pixar's animated Ratatouille in the summer of 2007. The film is about a rat who lives in a fancy Parisian restaurant run by a famous, but eccentric chef.

Speaking with the The National Ledger, Tim Allen refers briefly to Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3. "It's going to be great," comments the voice of Buzz Lightyear himself. "We have John Lasseter, the original director, and I believe Tom [Hanks] is on board." Allen further describes the current version of Toy Story 3 as being "stronger" than the previous one planned by Disney's now-defunct Circle 7 Animation.
