Shrek 2 with altered cast in the Uk version.

Saw it today and thought it was great.
However the Larry King part was dubbed by Uk movie critic and chat show host Jonathan Ross.
Also Joan Rivers part was dubbed by some lady who did the pop idol extra shows.
Thought this was very weird, the Larry King part not too many folks would get even though we have his show on CNN but Joan Rivers is always on E! over here and is well known as a comedian.

That makes about as much sense as us redubbing the original Mad Max with bad American actors.

I heard they're doing the same for the upcoming Shark Tale movie. Katie Couric is being dubbed, in Australia at least, by a more famous down under news woman. I suppose DreamWorks is making this a policy for all animated films that feature cameos.

We reported this at Animated News a while back:
http://www.animated-news.com/archives/00001636.html

I say now as I said then - what a pointless thing to do! I totally agree with Tony Clifton above that the changes will make no difference to the average joe and will actually LOSE laughs.

1) Jonathan Ross' voice is no-where as gruff as Larry King, who as TC says, IS known over here (he's actually fairly highly regarded) and has appeared in other cameo roles.

2) Kate Thornton as Joan Rivers??? Give me a break! That's like cancelling out the Ross/King thing, since Rivers is actually probably BETTER known here than Thornton anyday! And her lines in the trailer - which were original non-dubbed Joan - got a big laugh every time anyway!

THANK GOD we'll have the region one to satisfy us purists!!

And, yes... the Shark Tale rumors are correct:

I think I'd prefer the non-Rivers version. Anytime hearing her voice is annoying to me and they could have easily left her cameo out altogether.

Not a very smart move by DreamWorks. Its totally unnecessary and I would imagine more costly to have the same cameos played by different people globally.
