Unexpected Bonuses

I recently picked up the Something Weird disc "Ramrodder / Revenge of the Virgins" some Western genre sexploitation sleaze.

Included as a bonus is Lenny Bruce's "Thank You Masked Man", an animated short that I've been looking for. The print and transfer is fair / good.

Then there's the Warner Bro's disc of "Battleground" a war movie about the 101st Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge (Dec 1944). Included is Tex Avery's "Little Rural Riding Hood". The print and transfer is excellent, perhaps as good as the Looney Tunes transfers. This bodes well for a Tex Avery collection.

Oopsie! - the title should be "Unexpected Bonuses" I thought I had edited it but the change didn't take.

You can't change the thread of a title once you've submitted it. It takes "magic" powers to do that.

Another one to add to the list is HellBoy. When the movie is released this month (July 27th) It will contain 4 HellBoy's choice cartoons.

Quote:
The 2-Disk Hellboy DVD, which Columbia TriStar is releasing on July 27, includes some surprising previously unannounced bonus features, which have only come to light recently as review copies have been sent out. Tucked away on disk one and listed as "Recommended by Hellboy" are three of the four classic Gerald McBoing-Boing cartoons. Based on a record by Dr. Seuss, Gerald McBoing-Boing is the story of a little boy who used sound effects instead of words. Produced by UPA, the Gerald McBoing-Boing cartoons were extremely influential in blazing a path to a new visual style in American animation, and the character was popular enough that he (and UPA's other great creation Mr. Magoo) eventually got their own Dell comic book.

In addition to the three Gerald McBoing-Boing cartoons the new Hellboy DVD also includes a cartoon more in keeping (thematically speaking) with the Hellboy saga -- the classic UPA version of Edgar Allen Poe's The Telltale Heart. All in all the animated extras on the new Hellboy DVD are truly "bonus" features, which fans should relish

Wow! I love those UPA cartoons. The one I want to see is an oddity titled "The Three Horned Flink" very bizarre.

What a great idea, if the directors or other people involved in a film put on DVD would select their favorite cartoon as a bonus
