The addition of the Green Arrow excites me, the addition of Supergirl and Captain Atom do not.

I'll probably still watch though, as I am a big Justice League comic fan. However, I've only really liked it when it's had the 'upper level' 5 or 6 stars.

I always like the friendship between Green Arrow and GL. But I have to ask...what happened to the old Justice League from last year. I didn't keep up or anything, but why did they change it?

It kinda pisses me off. It's like when they changed the BATMAN TAS shows to use the same actors and such, but moved the plot and character drawings around. Why change?

Go rent the recent DVD Justice League: Starcrossed. That explains the transition, or at least sets things up for the transition. It was actually a really good movie (I know, like four episodes combined). I haven't really been fond of the JL series so far, but that sort of impressed me. There's some great moments for Batman fans, especially of the old Batman series.

From what I picked up, they only ditched Hawkgirl (which as her character in the show bothers me) but doesn't as in her place in comics. Apparently, Supergirl was added to compensate for losing a female character. Captain Atom seems like a variant of Superman, which the group (or comics) doesn't need another "God".

But, I mean...why rename it? If it is a continuation of previous story lines or based on them, why rename the show? You don't see NYPD Blue renaming itself when it changes officers or Law and Order changing names when they change detectives. My only guess is marketing and profits from toys with the new banner.

So what did you all think of it? I gotta watch the repeat this afternoon @ 17:00 since I failed to tape it, and was interupted numerous times last night....

From what I did see though, the animation was the same except for some added cgi. What really stood out was Green Arrow....man, they made him damn near as big as Supes, and what bothered me most was his voice! I did not expect him to "sound" like that! I figured Ollie would sound more like a mix between Bats & Supes....he sounded kid like instead.

Yes, and it is out on DVD. Worth checking out, or at least to me.

From the JLA Watchtower website:
Bruce Timm on Justice League Unlimited #1: "When we finished Season Two, we honestly didn't know if it was going to be our last season or not. We thought it was a 50 / 50 chance it could be our last season of Justice League, but they did come to us and say, 'We would like to pick up Seasons Three and Four of Justice League.'

“They did have a couple of stipulations: one of them was that they didn't want two-part stories any more; they wanted us to do half-hour, self-contained stories. At first, we were like, 'Yeah, we really liked two-part, hour-long stories; we liked having that elbow room to stretch out,' but we did Batman and Superman and Batman Beyond as half-hour shows, so it would just take a little bit of a learning curve to go back and figure out how to tell Justice League stories in a half an hour. But we thought we could do it.

“The second thing is that they asked us to re-brand the show somehow, and they were very vague about that. They just wanted to do something to differentiate Season Three from Seasons One and Two, to let the audience know it's a fresher show. Honestly, in retrospect, I think they would have been happy if we just changed the title of the show, and maybe some kind of superficial change with the line-up of the show. And you can blame it all on me; anybody who doesn't like what's going on with Season Three with all the guest-stars, you can blame it all on me. It was my idea. We could have one rotating cast member; we could have easily just added Aquaman to the show…that would have been enough to re-brand the show.

“Instead, I had this crazy notion: instead of having just one guest star, why don't we go whole hog and go crazy? Fortunately, everyone on staff liked the idea, even though it meant designing and writing and developing all these new characters. It's really been a blast—to me, every episode of Justice League Unlimited is really exciting because we get to play with new characters that we never got to play with before

My question is, 'why rebrand it'? Were the numbers for the first 2 seasons declining? I thought the show was getting stronger with the ratings and marketing. And to tell them they can't do 2-part episodes? Why not just tell them to throw storylines out the window and just have the characters fly around and punch people for 22 minutes and stick some commercials inbetween.

It's happening again. The same thing they did to Batman TAS. Rebrand it, and make it

I tend to agree....I saw no reason to change a good thing, and I enjoyed the 2 part episodes in that it gave them time to tell a better story. But hey...what do I know.

So did anyone watch it last night? What are your thoughts?

Anyone know if this show got cancelled or what? It wasn't on last night like it normally has, and the 'schedule' on Cartoon Network is empty!?!?!

What gives?

Well we just started to get the show here on YTV in Canada. I thought the episodic movie with HawkGirl leaving was AWESOME SHIT! But i don't like the new turn they took with all these SuperHeros being witht he regulars (Raven and Dove ) Also the new theme sucks and miss the old theme sound (which i hear they replaced soon) But hopefully the don't cancel the show and are delaying for new ones soon. Maybe they will scale back on this world selection of super heros and go back to the original style. Nothing though i have heard about the show being canned though (And i hope it doesn't. . . .unless they go back to making some batman Beyond for me)

Re: Justice League Unlimited - TONIGHT!

I just got back into this show and I have really been liking it lately, especially Task Force X where the 5 criminals are assigned the job of breaking into The Watchtower and stealing a massively destructive weapon. One of the first episodes of the series was particularly moving too. "For The Man Who Has Everything" where Clark is made to believe he is still on Krypton and has a family that he has to let die in order to break out of the fantasy. I think Dini/Burnett/Burkowitz/Timm still have it.

question about one of the latest episodes : "The Clash" ...

who was the woman Lex was toasting with at the end of this episode? I know I have seen her before somewhere in the Batman/Superman/Justice League series's. Is she the current president? a sennator? the mayor?

The superbattle between Cptn Marvel and Supes was in a word ... amazing. To quote a review for the JJ Abrams 'Superman Lives' script : This is destruction on a level that Superman II could never have imagined.
It looks like I have some catching up to do with whats been going on with Lex. The JLU core seems to hate and distrust him him even more than usual and Superman just ran headlong into a con that Lex set up for him without even thinking about it before using Cap Marvel as a wrecking ball.

I was under the impression that the new ones were starting to be shown this Saturday, the 21st. According to the Cartoon Network website the episode "Task Force X" is being premiered that night.

Unless I missed something my ReplayTV is usually good about picking up new episodes.

I just watched the latest episode aired in Canada (Question Authority), and I scrambled to the net to see when the next one will be aired and I am now realizing how behind Canada the US is for getting these episode aired. We used to get Enterprise a day before the US, but we're getting JLU's weeks before you guys.

-Question Authority- is seriously SERIOUSLY fucked up. I can't believe that a cartoon of all things that's supposedly for kids had the balls to use the word 'cancer', show a (moderately non-superhuman) man being picked up and slammed through a desk into the floor, then show the blatent torture of him, and show Lex holding a shotgun to someone's head, plus
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
the heat-vision-nuking of the white house.
It looks like I have alot of catching up to do... I had NO idea what they were talking about for the most part (Justice Lords, Darkseid's brainwashing of Superman, etc)

This is fast becoming one of my favorite shows on TV. Its way up there with LOST. Very smart and adult with story lines that continue thoughout the series, rather than having just half hour stand alone eps every week like a kiddie show. The list of guest stars that they get to do voices are amazing. I couldn't believe that I was hearing Robert England as the guy in the mirror a couple episodes ago

Question Authority was the beginning of a 4 or 5 episode story arc that will lead up to the end of the season and probably another radical change for the show next year. (like Justice League to Justice League Unlimited at the end of season 2). Based on the plot synopsis for the upcoming episodes that I've read we are in for some major changes and some real 'OH FUCK' moments.

heres a link to air dates and brief plot synopsis for every epiosde up to the end of the season... beware of minor spoilers

I watched tonight's episode and just still can't believe what a 180 this show has made over its lifespan. It went from a very pale imitator of the original Batman and Superman series to now being up there with those shows. I wish more shows got the time this one did to find its footing and really understand where they wanted to go with it.

This show does indeed rock. I'm surprised nobody here hasn't asked the obvious question though (or if they did, I missed it) - where are the DVD sets for this show?

Agreed. When this show was just Justice League, it was OK. Now under the Unlimted tag, it's gotten pretty good.

This is a Canadian spoiler. Americans probably haven't seen this episode yet. Nooch.

The last episode i saw
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Brainiac revealing himself out of the body of Lex
was pretty damn awesome. It has indeed gotten darker like the Batman show story wise and i like some of the newer team members, but i wish they had more Flash in the show still. Anyways can't wait for next week and any sort of Box Set announcement

Saturday's US episode (the one Bob talked about in his spoiler), was very good. This show is really worth your time, even if you did not like the original incarnation as Justice League. I can only hope it keeps up at this level.

I had forgotten Bob's spoiler and it was certainly a shock and freaky ending.

The only real problem I have with this show is that 6-Shooter dude. I could have sworn he or maybe a pair of twins like him were bad guys.

Basically, too many characters up on the tower for me. Otherwise it is a fantastic cartoon.

That bugged me at first, too. Over time, though, I've seen them use many characters in a good way, and I like the feeling that some characters are just "there" hanging around, or living their own lives outside of the main story. That gives the show a more living feeling than most shows.

Now i don't know whent he series end but the last episode with
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Brainiac and Lex was AWESOME!!! I thought the Flash beatting the hell out of him was awesome and i always love it when ground is ripped up at super speed. Adds such a "cool" factor to the character and scene

but the last new one i saw was about Terry and Batman Beyond

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
This was probably my fav out of the entire series. Its all about Terry and finding out that Bruce is his real dad. He was created from the tissue samples that Bruce left behind and was implanted into his father. Wallar came to the fact that the world needed a Batman and that Bruce could not be Batman forever. So Terry was created in a program of her's called Batman Beyond. She needed to create the factors that made Bruce Batman in the first place. The death of a parent and had hired Barbara Gorden to kill his dad, but refused too. The while story was just awesome and i think was the season finale of the show.

Here's hoping for another great season

Definitely a good episode, Bob. I kinda cheated and "located" it through alternate means (Should I suffer because DirecTV has screwed up their receivers so much my ReplayTV can't record things right half the time anymore?). Liked it a lot. Also liked catching up on that whole multi-episode arc from before, since I was only able to record the one with the
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Brainiac revealing himself in Lex scene you went on about before.

One thing I disagree with though, in your description of the scene in the Batman Beyond "Epilogue" episode, you say that
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
Waller sends Barbara Gordon to killer Terry's parents. I believe that was suppose to be Andrea "The Phantasm" Beaumont, from The Mask of the Phantasm movie, not Gordon. Frankly I thought that was a really cool, throwaway touch they added in there.

I will have to remember to stop looking at your spoilers next season, though. Really ruined one of the episodes for myself when I looked at it and then realized I hadn't seen the episode yet.
