Anime Recommendations

I did a search for this before I posted it and found nothing. You can redirect this if there is another thread like this. Anyway, I love anime and am looking for some recommendations. Just post your favorites.

that's a really broad statement, similar to "i like colour movies". Is there anything specifically you like about anime, like big robots, tentacle porn, scifi, comedy, romance, fan service, etc etc...

when most people mention anime, they go for the big titles, which you may or may not like:

Akira, Ghost In The Shell, anything by Hayao Miyazaki, Cowboy Bebop (tv series and a movie), Neon Genesis Evangelion (tv series, with 3 releases on dvd, and 3 subsequent other dvd's that alter the ending - this series is confusing to collect), Grave Of The Fireflies, Vampire Hunter D (there are 2 of these), Urotsikidoji, and many more which I know have been mentioned here before...

Then there are some newer titles, specifically episodic, that I personally enjoy:
Last Exile (scifi)
Rahxephon
Gunparade March
Yukikaze
Macross Zero (import only)
Inu Yasha (well, my daughter loves this show, so I watch it with her every day on Cartoon Network).

Which reminds me, watch Cartoon Network (usually as part of adult swim) or G4TechTV, as they put on quite a bit of anime

there are many more titles i can recommend, but it would help if i knew what genres you were into...

Although i really lost interest in anime. I'd also strongly recommend Escaflowne, both the series and the movie. I remember watching this on 4th generation fansubs and the artwork, design, music and story are just top notch.

Absolutely worth taking a look at.

There was a previous thread in the Software forum, since the Toon Town section is relatively new:

Any Anime Collectors Out There?

Videoworx mentioned several good titles worth getting. Beyond his list, some of my favorites that I've picked up on DVD:

Black Magic M-66
MegaZone 23 Vol. 1 & 2 (part 3 coming later this month)
Silent Service
Bubblegum Crisis (original and 2040 series)
Gasaraki
Full Metal Panic
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team
Millennium Actress
Memories
Metropolis

The best site to check out anime DVD titles is AnimeOnDVD.

On the Cartoon Network, they're airing several series currently. The current series that I've been following are Case Closed, Gundam Seed, and Wolf's Rain.

Even though I'm way behind on my anime (watching and buying), I'll throw my 2 cents into the mix...

RahXephon - my favorite newer long series by far. Great storylines, great characters, awesome animation. The movie version just came to DVD recently, and it's OK, just nowhere near as amazing as the series.

Last Exile - the best animation I've seen, probably ever. Just gorgeous.

Najica Blitz Tactics - just really, really fun. Basically James Bond, if Bond was a woman who liked to bend over/kick/jump/etc. alot and thereby show everyone her panties. Just like all the other women in the series like to do.

Marmalade Boy - old school, classic boy/girll love story. No robots, no magic, just high school love stories. Kind of like a very quirky Japanese 90210. My favorite series of all time.

Boogiepop Phantom - eerie, creepy, odd little series. When you watch it, it'll seem like nothing makes sense at first, but stuff revealed in one episode won't get resolve or even begin to make sense until a few episodes later.

FLCL - the coolest shit ever! This one's too hard to explain, but I love it to death. Only 6 episodes, but there's alot of cool stuff packed into each and every one. Trippy as hell.
