American Dad (enjoy 6 minutes of the show )

Well we kind of have a thread for the new show but it was combined with Family Guy return so i thought a full thread for the new series was warrented.

So click here to check out 6 Minutes of the new animated show

I'm kind of mixed as i think it kind of rips off well Family Guy a bit but i guess its to be expected. The fish is ok, the son annoys me and do does the daughter. The Wife has very little time and again the dad is the bext of the 6 minutes. I guess it needs more then 6 minutes to establish itself for my liking.

I have to agree its not THAT great, but there are some good parts with the father, and the alien has potential... doesnt look like it will live up to family guy though, not by a longshot.

I'm conflicted on this. And very confused.
Why in the world would they put this show on the air after they cancelled The Family Guy?
I chuckled a few times, agreed that the father is the funniest. The goldfish is okay, the alien sounds like the late Paul Lynd (young members won't know who I'm talking about)
At first I thought maybe it wasn't going to have the same adult humor that Family Guy does but then the goldfish came out with his ass in the bowl of water and started looking up the mothers dress and nuzzling her boobs so that feeling went away.
It has potential but again, I don't understand why Fox would green light this show when they cancelled The Family Guy.
But since The Family Guy is coming back next year maybe they know something we don't.

I was expecting a little more out of Seth. The comedy here was a bit to spoon fed for my liking. Things aren't as funny when they're explained. Maybe he had to do that for the network executives.

The brother/sister thing is a lot like Married with Children.
The fish had potential, but needs to be treated more like Stewie was. A character that was smarter then everyone else, but treated like he was a idiot.
An effeminate needy alien, OK has potential.
The dad was uninspired.
Didn't get a good enough feel for the mother yet.

I guess since it looks like The Family Guy, I was expecting that level writing. Hopefull it will get better, or die quickly so he does let the new Family Guy suffer.

That was not as good as I'd hoped it would be. It would be nice if this was just a result of the length of the clip. None of the characters were really that funny to me at this point.

Well the pilot has just been shown on Fox and i want to see what everyone thought of the show.

I liked it. I don't really like the animation of the characters that much but over all i did like the Family Guy rip off (if they can even do that with their own show) that it had. Raunchy humour was their and i like the father son chat with the wife still blabbering away. The dog bit was a bit inhumain but i stil managed to chuckle here and there. Plus i loved the purse snatching scene

Overall i liked and will hopefully be able to tune in come May 1st when it starts running after Family Guy

it had its moments...some of the humour seemed a bit forced, and the animation is a bit weaker than Family Guy - but a decent pilot...can't wait for May...

I liked it. It was pretty much the same type of family guy humor. If you don't like that show, you most likely will not like this. Since Family Guy is one of my favorite shows, I really liked American Dad.

American Dad was just awful. Not funny at all, and a total rehash of the Family Guy "formula".

Absolutely agree. Also I feel that the show's theme is a bit dated.
Are people really finding terror alert level jokes funny anymore?
It seems like the premise is stale and just a little behind the times. This could have been a hit about a year and a half to two years ago. But not now.

I thought the pilot was blah. I should have known better than to expect a mind-blowing pilot (since they're never really as good as the rest of the series... usually) so shame on me. Still, it was Seth McFarlene we were talking about so I guess I had my hopes up too high.

I did like the alien, though. Can't say the same about the show--yet.
