I assume "two more runs" means at least another year... and even then, these guys aren't known for their complete factual statements. We'll see...

The funny thing is the show seems to get better as it goes... I caught some of the new shows in late 2003 and they were a fucking riot...

Exactly. Much as The Simpsons should have done around season seven.

Even if it were to go on and become crappy, then why would that affect your enjoyment of the earlier seasons? No one is forcing you to watch it if it were to continue on. I'd be willing to bet that I enjoy season 7 of the Simpsons just as much now as I would have if that were the last season.

I wish South Park wasn't coming to an end. To me, they just kept getting funnier and funnier.

A lot of people think Buffy hit it's peak at Season 5, and that it should have ended there... I think season 6 is amazingly good. On the other hand, other than a few good eps, I wish The X-Files ended on Season 7...

It's a toss-up. In the end, if Matt and Trey are done, the show's done... I just meant in my first post "don't be surprised if they were B.S.'ing..."

I agree. After season 7, it just wasn't the same. There is still talk floating around by Chris Carter on another X-Files movie, with Mulder and Scully. Sorry to get off track.

I used to loathe SP, but after watching newer episodes over the past couple of seasons I've began to love it. I hope it doesn't end.

I never really got into SP much. I think the episodes won't have as much lasting value as people think except for the hardcore fans. The show seemed to have some interesting writing when it started, but now they have become too rooted in current events. 5 years from now how many people will give a shit about Ben Affleck and J Lo or old Saddam episodes for example.

Re: South Park R.I.P.

well I have been expecting this for a while now. a few years back they said that they were going to analyse the show on a yearly basis and see if it was still fresh and funny and if they were really enjoying doing it, and if not they were going to quit.
that was said at least 2 years ago, so we have gotten a couple really really good years of the show since then and we will probably get another 20 or so episodes including the run starting in October 2004.
if they are sick of doing it then they should move on and not run the show into the ground like XFiles and Simpsons were.
I will definately miss it, but it has been a kick ass ride over the last 8 years (and even longer if you remember when The Spirit of Christmas was originally bootlegged around)
I am sure they will be putting out another South Park feature in the next few years (I remember something being said about a script where the boys go to space camp), and there should be other feature films and TV shows as the years roll by.

If it is officially announced next year that it will be the last year of the show, i may just record all of the episodes and watch them all at once when it is all over in a giant orgy of South Park. It will be tough to not catch any of the eps, but i think it would be worth it to say goodbye to something that has kept me and many of my friends laughing for almost a decade.

It seems like it's only been a year when it comes to watching South Park. Then I realize it's been around for a long time, it all went by so fast. I'd much rather them analyze everything and make a strong decision to end it now than fizzle out to a terrible finish like everyone else said. At least their putting the seasons out on DVD, that's enough of a finisher to keep me happy. I hope they end it with all the boys getting killed, like Kenny has oh so many times in the past years, or something that reflects back across the years and ends it properly. I really hope they don't try to make an ending episode about them being teenagers or something. That would be terrible.

It's been a blast.

Is it official that season 9 is the last one ?

In my opinion they have aired what would have been the perfect final episode (unless the boys are going to grow up). They should have just put it in a box and not aired it until the end.
In the episode the boys create a weekly news program that is aired on closed circut TVs throughout the school ... long story short, the boys have an adventure and at the end they expose a scandal within the school and their 'ratings' such as they are go through the roof. The teacher in charge of the extracurricular TV project wants them to put together another news program for the next week that will be just as good and ratings grabbing.
The boys sit around a table racking their brains as to what they are going to make their next show about and eventually decide that creating a weekly show that is inventive and good is just too hard so they just bail out, like a bunch of kids would.

Cartman : "Ummmmm, hmmmmm ... We could make it about ... ummm... no, thats no good"
Kyle : "Jeez, who knew making a show every week was such hard work ?"
[long pause]
Stan : "Bail?"
Cartman : "I say Bail"
[and the four of them jump out of their chairs and run off screen]

South Park Renewed for Three More Seasons
September 08, 2005
By Jim Cooper

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have renewed their contract with Comedy Central, signing on for three more 14-episode seasons of the animated series.

Season 10 of Comedy Central’s top-rated show kicks off Oct. 19 at 10:00 p.m.

“I was at Comedy Central when we launched the first season of South Park, and I am thrilled to see them continue through 2008,” said network president Doug Herzog. “Matt and Trey are creative geniuses and a huge part of the Comedy Central family, and we look forward to continued success.”
hrmmm, season 10? shouldnt that be the remainder of season 9?

According to Matt Stone in Entertainment Weekly this week, they also haven't written off doing another movie. Matt went on to say that they might even do a movie for the finale.

Speaking of which, there was talk a year or so ago of a Bigger, Longer and Uncut SE. Has anyone heard anything else about that? BL&U was brilliant and I'd love to hear a Matt and Trey commentary and any other extras they might throw in.

They said that its all a bunch of fans/nerds thinking they have a whole bunch of deleted scenes and crap that they couldn't get onto the first dvd. They said they have very little stuff that they could put on a SE dvd except a commentary but it seems they don't want too. Trying to remember what i was watching when they said this.

Yeah, they don't seem to enjoy the commentary thing, and South Park seems low on behind the scenes goodness to begin with. I don't think a BL&U SE is coming soon, and might not be worth it when it does...

The documentary on the Season Two DVD set is all the "behind the scenes" I need of South Park anyway...
