Questions about Real Ghostbusters on DVD

Hi, I'm just a newbie with a few questions. I found out about this site via TV Shows on DVD.com. I registered there because I want very much for The Real Ghostbusters to be released on DVD. No, correction... quality DVD(I heard about some mediocre Region 2 DVD being sold in Europe). Question 1) How can it be released on Region 2 in Europe but not on Region 1 in the US?

Anyway, for the last few weeks, I've been getting people from the various Ghostbusters sites that I'm a member of to register on the site and vote. So far, I've gotten 83 votes and it's rank has gone up 28 slots. Not bad, but not good enough. There has to be a better(and/or quicker) way to tell the company that owns the rights to RGB that it should be released in this country on Region 1 DVDs. Question 2) Any suggestions?

making a petition on a petition online site,
also writing mail to Bill Murray to get his ass off his wealthy couch and try to get these released!
That might help out a little bit, but a central petition site would be best.

I've never really understood how online petitions worked. Do the studios heads log on their computers and seek them out or are the petitions printed out and sent to them?

I had a suspicion that Bill might have something to do with the hold up in distribution. I know that he owns 1/3 of the rights, but still... how is it being released in Europe? Would they need his permission to do that?

Perhaps there are not a lot of answers because no one else really has any. I'm sorry to say that I don't have any. It's a great show and I'd really like to see it on DVD.

I'd advise checking www.TVShowsOnDVD.com every few days, because they are so good at reporting any DVD news on any TV show.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude. It just really annoys me when I'm trying to ask for advice and I'm being ignored. I'm quickly running out of ideas and resources and I just wanted to know where to go from here.

Yes, I do check out TV Shows on DVD.com everyday and I, too believe they are a great source for DVD news. Thanks for answering.

What was with that show, anyway? Egan, skinny, with blond hair and fey red glasses? A slim, attractive Peter Venkman? A tubby, orange-haired Ray Stantz, who always thinks about eating? An admittedly black Winston Zeddmore who looks nothing like Ernie Hudson? To say nothing of the slender, attractive, punk-rock Janine! And these guys are supposed to be the *real* Ghostbusters? What a crock of shit! I think you've been cheated!

Witness:

The Ghostbusters, from the 1984 blockbuster:

Ugly-ass Annie Potts as Janine:

Ernie Hudson:

The "real" Ghostbusters, from the lame-ass late 80's cartoon (including the white-hot cartoon Janine and black-guy Ghostbuster who looks nothing like Ernie Hudson):

Real Ghostbusters, my ass! Do us all a favor and direct your dork-energies to projects deserving of DVD resurrection! 'Phantasm II', for instance!

I believe you're referring to Tracey, from the Fake Ghostbusters.

First of all, why all the hostility?! What did I do to deserve that kind of answer? If you really want to know why the characters in the show look nothing like the actors it's because the actors didn't want them to just in case the show flopped. Also, the creators knew that children are responsive to color association and it would have been somewhat confusing to have all dark haired, beige wearing Ghostbusters running around. Great in the movies, difficult in a cartoon. To remedy this, they decided to have the Ghostbusters in different colored jumpsuits and different colored hair but at the same time, keeping their familiar personality traits. Okay!?

Listen, if you don't like what I'm trying to do, then take your energies elsewhere! You got your priorities, I've got mine! :p

hey, Filmation's Ghostbusters predates the heck out of your so-called REAL Ghostbusters, buddy...neener neener neener

oh, and what was with the later SLIMER seasons, where that pile of green splooge got top billing over Lorenzo Music? Truly not a good thing - although the slimer juice (ecto-blaster) tasted pretty damn good...

Good luck on your quest, Mr. MChantal76. I'm sure they'll release it when they're ready, though.

Worst of all, I don't think it was Lorenzo Music, I think it was Dave Coulier.

Personally, I thought she looked the hottest in the early seasons, before they altered her glasses to a more round shape and changed her annoying/sexy voice.

As for the series itself, I thought it was one of the better movie tie-in cartoon shows of the 80's, at least until Slimer started getting top billing in the lame later seasons. If the price were right, I might consider picking up at least the first season on DVD to see if it held up.

The handsome, spikey-haired Dr. Venkman always chapped my ass. Bill Murray is so charming in his perpetually-balding ugliness.

I think Lorenzo Music only did the first two seasons, before the unfunny Full House guy stepped in. (Wait aminute, they were ALL unfunny on that show...)

wrong, Manicsounds. That animated Ghostbusters show from Filmation is from 1985 (or 86, whatever). The 70's version was live-action.

Got this today for less than £6. 4 episodes per disc. And there's more following soon. Don't mean to show off but it's great having a multi-region DVD player.

Filmation's Ghostbusters was a cartoon adaptation of live action Forest Tucker starring live action version...

Tracy the Gorilla was played by a guy (Bob Burns, IIRC) in a gorilla costume.

I know that RG was one of a number of shows that Rhino were looking into releasing onto DVD, but have heard no news on any advancement.

I avoided the UK disc. 4 episodes is lousy, given how many were made. I'm more a box set with loads of episodes type os person.

I've only seen four of the Filmation Ghostbusters episodes, that were released on VHS here. I really enjoyed them, despite thier patronising moral message endings (that mar all 80's Filmation cartoons). I've been hoping for a good set release of both the 70s live action and animated versions of this GB for a while.
