Herge's TINTIN Collection boxset

So, I was in my local store and the Anchor Bay region 2 box set of Tintin's adventures caught my eye...

Now, I don't usually go for region 2 stuff, but the low price had me hooked.

Getting the set home, the studio name Nelvana popped up on the back packaging, which I don't recall on the original series.

Did a little searching and this seems to be a newer 1990s take on the material rather than the series I watched as a kid.

Looked about the web and it seems that Belvision (?) did a series of 104 five-minute cliffhanger episodes and either two or four feature films, which is what I remember being shown on TV here in the UK and were released on home video.

So...what is in this new Anchor Bay set?

It seems to be a collection of the individually released double bill discs that were out a couple of years ago. Because the packaging uses the same covers as the original comic books, it's hard to tell which versions are which?

And what are the best ones to have? Classic, original Belvision, or the more recent Nelvana series (which, by all accounts is very good)?

No-where seems to have the films that were available on home video in the 1980s, unless they are these new ones but with newer dubs, or are they completely re-animated?

The length of the ones I remember was as full features (75 mins or so)...were these the five-minuters cut together, or specially made films? A couple have run on UK TV recently and that's what I thought was in this box set, but these only seem to be 45 minute stories.

Help! I'm confused!

don't forget, there was the Land Of The Sharks movie, also produced by Belvision...I don't recall ever seeing that released on DVD.

As for the Nelvana stuff - this played on HBO in the USA, sometime in the mid-90's (always at 7am!) - I caught it once in a while, and was very impressed by the animation.

Decided to take this back.

Did a whole heap of searching online and found some clips. Animation was great, but the plinky-plonky sythesized scoring ruined it for me.

Thanks for the pointers on the Belvision ones - they are what I was looking for. Hopefully soon.
