Father of the Pride

Just finished watching the series premier on NBC. Laughed my ass off! I really enjoyed it. The humor is deffinatly adult though, nothing really there for kids other then to look at the cute charactors. My son didn't understand why I was laughing so hard. I hope it has a long life but I doubt it will since it takes nine months to complete a single episode.
I'll just enjoy it while it's on.
Anybody else catch it?

I watched it and found it amusing if anything at all,

I recorded in on *cough*vhs*cough* and have already dumped it to my computer. I have a feeling I need to start a collection of each episode since more then likely it won't have legs.
But who knows, NBC doesn't have a lot going for it this season so (unlike Fox) they may decide to keep it around.

The Simpsons takes equally long per episode. Hasn't stopped that train for...oh...16 seasons now.

Overall i thought the program was pretty good. I love that we have another adult material show for us to watch and looks like it could do well. I love the house cat licking th whip cream off the Goodman's character. Should be interesting to see what they will do with DONLEY appearing in a future episode. With all the kids movies they (dreamworks)will eventually have going it could rely on getting some family viewing to see a fav movie character appear on screen before their next movie/dvd release or just for an added touch of humour.

plus Scrubs was just awesome right after this show

There was actually a little article in my local paper about this today that I agreed with. The problem isn't with the show itself (its fantasticly animated with some fun jokes) it's with the audience. It will probably have problems finding an audience because of the fact THIS IS NOT A KIDS SHOW, yet it was marketed largely as one and "is by the same people who did 'Shrek' "
So, right off the bat they will lose alot of children and their parents...so in primetime T.V whatchers whose left? Mostly just the people like us here on the 'file...and that is not a very large demographic, considering they will lose even more of the audience to the fact it's a cartoon with cute little animals...
So, unfortunatly ratings will be low, the show will be considered a failure and the whole thing will be forgotten faster then the live-action and animated Clerks TV shows.

Damn shame if you ask me

I saw the show tonight, and I thought it was funny. I hope it lasts long enough for at least one season, but if it doesn't, we can all relive it on DVD!!!
I loved the adult content of the material, but I do agree that it will be hard for most adults to see past the cute animation. But I am still a kid at heart and watch Scooby-Doo every chance I get on TV, so I loved the cute little animals! :p

Actually the commercials I saw for it always referred to it as "the First Completely Computer Animated Series in Prime Time for Adults" or something equally convoluted. It definitely referred to it as being for adults and the 9PM time slot would back this up. Hopefully people won't fall for the cartoons are for kids mindset that we seem to always get from American audiences.

BTW, did anyone notice how short it was? I think it only went 20-21 minutes, including the commercial breaks. The rest of the time was filled with that short making of featurette they've been promoting it with.
I just think it's odd that they could apparently fill the time slot and I wonder is that was just for this week or if that is going to be the standard MO of the show.

Didn't watch it because the previews basically gave me the impression noted here that it's "too blue for kids, too dumb for grown-ups".
Perhaps I'll give it a look next week...

The show ran on NBC and NBC HD commercial free and was 25 minutes long. Then had the small making of thing at the end.

I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I was surprised at the large number of adult-themed jokes. It's definitely not as wholesome as Shrek is, and the animation is top notch for a TV show.

I wonder how many episodes they'll be showing this season.

As for the short running time, 21-22 minutes of show footage is about normal for a 30 minute show. Most other half-hour sitcoms easily have 8 to 9 minutes of commercials, usually having 3 commercial breaks averaging 2-3 minutes each.

Well now, this is complete bullshit. Anyone remember Game Over earlier this year? It was on UPN, not a great show, but it was computer animated. I believe UPN only showed 6 or 7 eps before pulling the plug

BTW, Pride was funny, but I doubt it will survive for very long on NBC. I believe there are 13 eps already produced, so I expect a dvd set of it in the near future

Well to anyone that catches this in time they are repeating the debute again on tv with commercials (9:30 time) Already the show has received a few edits of the more adult content (cat licking whip cream and loving wink tot he monkey as well) I hope they don't butcher it too much next time they do a repeat. But my mom enjoyed and again i still laughed a lot 2nd time around. It probably wont have the legs to last but here's hoping they do catch an audience.

Geez those were two of the funniest moments. You can't claim it's an animated show for adults then cut out the stuff that makes it adult in nature. And anyway, don't these shows have their content approved before they are aired? If so it's not like the cat licking was a surprise.
Damn, I can see it now. It's gonna get edited down to where it's not funny anymore then the show will get cancelled.

Here's hopin' though.

I haven't missed an episode but I must say none of the episodes are as funny as the pilot. (not a surprise)
A few laugh-out-loud moments but nothing as hilarious as the first episode.

I caught about 2/3 of the last episode and thought the little homage to The Deer Hunter was amusing. That was about all I can remember though.

But man i was loving the 3 episodes back to back to back on Tuesday (as i missed the first 2 first showings) Anyone know how well the show is doing rating wise as i was going to update this thread also to see if people were still watching and see if it has legs for another season.

In my opinion, if they would cut out all of the shit with the cute talking animals and focus exclusively on Siegfried and Roy, they would have me as a fan for life. The S&R moments are killing me!!! They aren't overly mean, as this is produced by S&R themselves, but they play up the strange, German campiness to great effect.

I agree (some what) The S & R moments are the most hilarious now. However I could see myself growing tired of them if the show was thirty minutes of their schtick.
I have a feeling the shows producers bowed to pressure from the sponsers and the network to reduce the level of "adult jokes" which was what made the show funny and fresh to begin with.

You are probably right... the normal sponsors AND all of those obnoxious and overly-obvious product placements. But, since these things are produced so far in advance, I wonder if there aren't a few goodies floating about that would add to a nice DVD package.

I'm creating my own DVD package. I've been recording each episode then converting them to MPG so I can have 'em once the show get's yanked. (Which I have a feeling will happen)
Not the greatest quality since our NBC is off-air, not satalite but still good enough to watch.

It wasn't on last week due to the Prez/VP debates, so there are no ratings for the show. My local paper prints the weekly ratings every Wednesday, so I can post an update then for this week's show.

I've been watching each episode so far, and I enjoy them. Obviously, the adult-themed humor is what I tend to find funny, while episodes revolving around the kids seem to be pretty tame and geared towards kids and teens. I do enjoy the Siegfried and Roy jokes more, especially the episode where they had to get a Slurpee at the 7-11.

Modified the slurpee machine to include their theme music and a laser light show.

Ratings for last week's show just came out today. Out of 102 shows, the new show at 9PM was ranked 48 with 8.42 million viewers (the reruns at 8PM and 8:30PM were ranked 70 and 68, with 5.85 and 5.88 million viewers, respectively.

In comparison, the top show of the week was CSI with 28.89 viewers.

Those numbers aren't terrible, unfortunately for a show that expensive to produce, they are the kiss of death.

Last nights was probably the funniest since the premier. They brought back more of the adult humor and the addition of R. Lee Ermy as the personal trainer bunny was pure gold. We laughed our asses off at that episode.

Tigers Tank

Unable to whip up ratings for its computer-animated Father of the Pride, an adult-oriented cartoon about the performing tigers in Siegfried & Roy's Las Vegas act, NBC has yanked the show for the November sweeps. Although Pride is expected to return in December, it appeared doubtful that the network would continue the $2-million-per-episode DreamWorks-produced show once it has aired the initial 13 episodes. The show's Tuesday timeslot will be filled tonight by election coverage and next week by The Biggest Loser reality series, which is being expanded to 90 minutes through November.

GAWD!!!

Why can't people enjoy a good show anymore? We need to be entertained by nothing but reality TV shows now?!?!?!?

This was the best new show this year i thought and now it looks like the vet will be putting it too sleep. Give it a better time slot and see what happens (along with Scrubs) Yes i know its expensive but hell i think Dreamworks should fork out the money for the show themselves to keep it alive. . . for me and Damian at least. They have the money and the last thing i want to see is a bunch of fat people trying to lose weight only to get the boot for not losing enough weight (or how ever it works out) Its not entertainment to watch its just stupid.

Now that Dreamworks Animation has gone public, they will be beholden to their anxious stockholders. And with NBC going down the tubes, they can't dump money into a show that pulls numbers in the lower half of the ratings. Again, at least there will be an easy to afford DVD of this sooner rather than later.

I see this everyday as I watch my wife and I struggle to lose weight. Why do I need to watch a competition on it.

It does suck but I think I predicted it at the beginning of the season.

I think one of it's problems is the stations obviously bowed to the pressures of sponsers and toned down the adult humor we saw in the pilot. Several of the episodes that followed though still fun, weren't very racy in humor. There's been a few moments but up until last weeks episode I didn't laugh as hard as I did watching the pilot.

Or well, Like Lar said, the DVD set will be cheap. Even though I have my own collection goin' on I'll still get the studio produced set simply because of the quality.

Does NBC put out DVD sets of their fast-failed shows? I know Fox has with The Tick and Greg the Bunny but I can't recall any from NBC.

This may not be up to NBC, more likely it will be DreamWorks call.

Ratings of last week's shows came out today. Father of the Pride was ranked 68 of 117 shows, but it was the 2nd lowest-rated NBC weekly show, with 6.64 million viewers. Scrubs was barely ahead of it at 6.93 million, while LAX was slightly behind at 6.34 million.

NBC is currently ranked in 4th place among the major networks in weekly viewers, behind CBS, Fox (which got stellar ratings with baseball), and ABC.

Giving this a bump, as there is a new episode airing tonight. If my count is correct, there have only been 7 of the 13 episodes aired so far, so this will be number 8.

If my TV guide schedule is correct, next week will have 3 new episodes airing from 8PM to 9:30PM, presumably episodes 9, 10, and 11, to fill up the timeslot of the Biggest Loser show that previously aired at 8PM-9PM.

I just caught someone the other day quoting this line:

[in comically thick German accent] "MattLauer, MattLauer, MattLauer."

In a room full of people, I was the only one who caught it. It was funny to hear, though.

Sadly only a few more episodes and all we'll have left are the memories.
