I wonder if this'll be as shitty as the series is these days.

This is at least 10 years too late.

Now, I like the Simpsons so don't get me wrong but why on Earth would anyone need or want a Simpsons movie? What purpose would it serve? Is there something they're going to be able to "get away with" in the feature that they haven't already been able to do on FOX? I doubt it. There's currently a lexicon of Simpsons episodes going back 17 years. Is 17 years worth of episodes not enough for the public at large? That's an approximate 143 hours and counting. What value will a 90 minute feature add? As I said, I like the Simosons but I couldn't be less interested in this movie.

I doubt it has anything to do with getting away with stuff that the censors wouldn't allow. The Simpsons has never been Family Guy, or even Futurama, when it comes to pushing boundaries. Maybe when it first premiered, but not in years.

So why do it? Well, how much could it possibly cost to make such a film? $10-20 million? How much will it make opening weekend? I would wager $50 million...easy. So it will double its budget in one weekend, and probably is guaranteed to make $100 million. Just good business sense.

I would be most happy if they went back and hired some of their old writers to help contribute to this film. Not just because the show used to be better, but also because I think a good mix of humor could be infused into the film. My guess, though, is that we'll see an overdose of celebrities doing guest voices.

They one time joked that Bart would lose his virginity in the movie, so who knows?

Although you're probably correct, "because it'll make a boatload of cash" is a piss poor reason to make a film. I'm not sure it'll have the huge opening weekend you're predicting though. The Simpsons are on TV right now almost 24 hours a day (by that I mean that dpending on where you are you can catch them at some point in the day at least once and probably more). I think anyone who wants to watch them is probabaly getting their fill, for free.

I absolutley cannot wait for this. One thing to consider is that Matt Groening has said, is that he never wanted to make a movie because they didn't have a story worthy of one, which he says they now have. And screw 90 minutes, I want a 3 hour epic.

Even at it's worst, The Simpsons is better than any other sitcom on TV. I've heard the preview is getting a standing ovation in certain places!

Actually, your logic is exactly why it will have a huge opening. The show has been on for 16+ seasons now, and is on in reruns nearly 24 hours a day and people STILL watch it. People STILL buy the DVDs. They'll flock to the movie, as well. It'll be an event movie.

As for who will be writing and voicing it...

In related news, Reuters is reporting that David Silverman, co-director of Pixar's MONSTERS, INC., director of many SIMPSONS episodes (and now the series' "supervising director") is helming the movie.

A Fox press release indicates that Albert Brooks, Minnie Driver and Erin Brockovich will be guest voices in the film.

Perhaps but even if it does open big it'll fizzle in week two. I still don't think it'll even open big.

The vast majority of movies are made for just this reason. If you think otherwise, you are kidding yourself.

Was it well-publicised that the X-Men: The Last Stand DVD would have a sneak peek at The Simpons Movie?

I found the peek to be better than most DVD sneak peeks. They seem to usually include 3 seconds of interesting footage. This one was pretty much all interesting.

The first full trailer featuring movie footage was aired last night during The Simpsons. It was in non-anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen and 2.0 stereo (screw you FOX), but I am sure it will be popping up on torrent sites in 1080i soon. It was quite funny and had a different animation style than the show.

I thought that the trailer was as unfunny as the episode.

Homer on a wrecking ball being hit between a rock and a hard place time and again, and again, and again.

Tired, boring, not funny, old joke, lame. I will probably NOT be seeing this in the theatres, but may rent it for $1 from RedBox.

Like was said earlier, 10 years too late.

The Simpsons are what they are right now. They are pretty consistent. That being said I like where they are and will see the movie and own it later on DVD.

I haven't watched "The Simpsons" regularly in five or six years cuz it really sucks nowadays, but the leaked footage a few months back was pretty good. This... "trailer"... really isn't much of one. I chuckled at it, but most of my disappointment comes from the fact that Fox had a huge advertising push for what basically amounts to yet another extremely brief teaser.

I loved the fact they put all that effort into the Bugs dancing on a rock in exquisite clarity only to bring you back to what the Simpsons are. Funny sophomoric and.....yeah...I'll probably rent it.

I can't wait to see this, when the Simpsons fires on all cylinders (something it hasn't done in years) it's heads above Family Guy or any other show. Plus this comes out on my birthday.

I agree, frankly Simpsons has a lot more soul and heart to it, and while it's not timely at all, it's still very funny.

"The Simpsons" has always had more heart and soul than "Family Guy". FG is often funny as hell, but ultimately a very empty show.

Its about 11 days until it hits theaters and The Simpsons are even on the covers of the gay magazines! :O
