Pixar's Cars

Today I picked up Pixars Cars and with the short time I have spent with it I freckin love it. I saw this movie with my kids in the theatre. One thing I noticed is that the Dolby Digital soundtrack is not the default setting. It is the Dolby 2.0 mix. So this means kids all over the U.S. with HTIB with not so smart parents will not hear this soundtrack at it's best. Speaking of audio this is the best mix I have heard in quite sometime and that's saying somthing especally with MI III and X3. Every channel is used. Very deep bass and the off screen conversation with Mater and Mqueen was cool. I hope more sound enginers and directors take note of this wonderful mix. Well back to watching the movie.

I agree. I'm a Pixar junkie, so I picked this up as well. I haven't watched the feature yet (probably tomorrow night), but I watched the shorts "One Man Band" and the "Mater and the Ghost Light" (<-- very good by the way) and all I have to say is WOW! The sound was great, some deep bass, but the picture, oh the picture. It was flat out amazing! I was watching it in up converted 1080i. I can't imagine how good it would look in true HD. The colors were eye-popping.

I'll eventually pick up the inevitable 2-disc special edition yet to come just for the extra extras.

Oh, and kudos once again to Pixar for producing all the extras, previews, and shorts in anamorphic wide screen and Dolby digital 5.1 sound.

Well with threads in "Software", "Buy, Rent, Or Trash", and "Toon Town" it's a bit confusing as to where to post subjects like this. Specialization has killed the mass gathering of opinions and ideas.

Well, if it’s any consolation, this thread will get moved to Toon Town shortly.

I don't remember the other recent PIXAR releases coming out with a sparse 1 dics version to begin with....?

What's with this terrible decision for PIXAR to extort $$$ from people with a relative barebones first edition, just to soak them for a special edition in awhile?

Of all companies, I didn;t think PIXAR would stoop to this shameful tactic.

BAD DECISION, PIXAR.

They did that with the initial release of A Bug's Life, but since that was in the format's early days, it was forgivable. This, however, I'm not falling for. The "Tricked Out Edition" of Cars with almost certainly be hitting stores a few weeks before Ratatoulie next summer. I'll be skipping this current release, thank you very much.

I picked it up for $15 and got the free 3-D poster from Best Buy. Was surprised and disappointed by the extras. Pixar always jams it full of extras and I always looked forward to them. Didn't do any research ahead of time or even look at the box in the store because I knew of Pixar's track record with extras.

Probably would have gotten it anyway butcome on Pixar. Release two versions on release date and let us have a choice!

I didn't love the movie as much as the other ones anyway so why taint it any further.

In the latest issue of VB magazine, Lasseter was quoted as saying that there are no current plans for a SE edition of "Cars" and that the sparse features were due to his busy schedule with other upcoming Pixar projects.

If I had to guess, I’d say there will be some exclusive features on the inevitable BD release.

Did you know about the Easter Egg? Leave the menu screen on long enough and the Dinoco 400 logo will appear in the lower right of the picture (see picture). Click it and you'll be treated to a segment where Mater and Lightning watch Mater and Lightning in the short Boundin'.

Also, since it's in every Pixar film, I thought I'd point this out.

Bullshit. It's not that difficult to take two hours to record a commentary.

Do they actually think people believe them when they trot out bullshit excuses to cover up blatant marketing ploys?

As if John Lasseter has anything else that is more important in his life than making a great Cars release, if that's what he wanted to actually do.

This movie is more indulgent than Passion of the Christ.
It's a love letter from Lasseter to a time long ago, through the shared American cultural experience of the love of cars.

As if Ratatouille is even a blip on his radar comparatively. He's not even the director - Brad Bird is.

That is absolutely beautiful. That logo is definitely in my top 5 for movie titles/logos of all time.

Dammit. Why didn't America get that?!?!? Or did we, and did I miss it?

Thankfully this was one of the tins you got for free with the movie (unlike what they have been doing making you pay extra for it with nothing else bonus) I got a price match with of all places Shopper's Drug Mart for $19.77 (Pharma Plus also has all the big new releases in the flyer at $19.99 almost every week)

Yeah I've noticed that Pharma Plus has had the new releases for $19.99 as well - that's what I paid at Best Buy (I got the lenticular print but I think that steel book case is nicer).

My son and I watched this movie together three times over the weekend. It's quickly become my favorite Pixar movie to date.

Sounds like the inevitable will happen. A two-disc set of Cars will be released on June 5th along with the blu-ray version.

Actually, it says "Will we get a 2-disc special edition?" Doesn't sound too sure to me. But we can hope.

More info on the Cars Blu-Ray...

Quote:
The Digital Bits has learned that the forthcoming release of Cars on Blu-Ray will include so much material that it will be a 2-disc set (BD50s).

Official details should be announced in the coming weeks says TDB.

So there you have it. A 2-disc Cars Blu-Ray set. If they will also release a 2-disc DVD set is still unknown. Surely Disney must know that not everyone has a $2000 HDTV with a $1000 Blu-Ray Player. Hopefully all shall be revealed in the coming weeks.

Damn you, Disney, damn you for being Blu-Ray.
