Wall-e
Pixar's next one, I'm surprised there isn't a thread on it already.

A new trailer is up.
Apple - Trailers - WALLE This looks like another Pixar hit. The colors in the trailers are eye-popping. This is going to look so good in blu-ray.

From the look of things, PIXAR may have (finally) fixed the problems with their teaser and early trailers.
IMO, their teasers have been terrible going back to Finding Nemo. This one makes the subject material look intriguing, at least.

Yeah we got our Wall-E unit back in Dec or Jan at my theater. If he is like ours he has a built in motion sensor. So anyone who walk by will be greated with either is name, Whoa, and/or that sound he makes in the trailer when he spits out his cube of trash.
He was shipped in the box he stands on. We were greated with a letter congradulating us on our purchase of the Wall-E Unit

I hate red decimals. The rogue ones are almost as bad!
I think this movie is almost too cute for its own good. I am super excited to see it though. I just love how they have evoked emotion from the robot without using words and making percieved facial expression while maintaining his shape.

Thank God for Pixar. These are the types of family movies that I can actually take the family to and enjoy. We're seeing it this weekend. This one looks fantastic. I can't wait!

Wall-E doesn't talk. We've heard EVE talk and the humans so far in the trialers. His bleeps and bloops and whirls and ticks are emotive so I don't see a problem with communicating feeling. I would imagine that part of the performance would be enhanced by the visual though. I wonder what sight-impaired people would think of Wall-E the robot based just on the sounds.

One of my favorite characters, Gromit from the Wallace & Gromit claymation from Aardman Studios (and my avatar on the left), doesn't talk, as all of his emotions are conveyed through the eyes and the brow, along with body and hand gestures. Judging from the clips I've seen on Wall-E, Pixar has done a remarkable job doing the same thing, along with sound effects and gestures by the character.

Some of the most endearing animated characters of all time didn't speak (Dopey in Snow White, the Magic Carpet in Aladdin, ect.). And sound designer Ben Burtt, who did Wall*E's "voice", did similar duties for R2-D2, so I'd say we're in good hands.

As others have already stated, the fact that feelings and emotions had to be conveyed to the audience in a non-verbal manner really put the pressure on Pixar to deliver. In my opinion, they nailed it. Even Eve doesn't really speak, at least not in complete sentences anyway. Rather, she's able say two or three words.

Pixar's best since The Incredibles, and the best film of 2008, PERIOD.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. ![]()

Well considering there's been only 2 thats not really a big feat. Ratatouille was definitely better than both The Incredible and Cars, IMO
Not that the Academy would ever let it happen.... But Could this be considered for Best Picture? NOT best animated picture but the big one. I have yet to see it but everything I've read so far has been overwhelmingly possitive to the extent that even a couple reviews mentioned Oscar and not the animated version of him. Could you imagine a computer generated creation winning Best Picture? Heres a couple of early Oscar picks for ya. Best Director - Andrew Stanton Best Picture - Wall-E Best Actor - Heath Ledger. Hell maybe even another Oscar for Ben Burtt Yeah I know its a Wall-E thread and Heath ain't in it but hey maybe this is the year of the long shots.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture back in '91, so its certainly possible since it wouldn't be setting any sort of precedent. At the same time, like you said, they'll never let it happen.

Ben Burtt definitely deserves a Best Actor nomination, but you just know he'll have to settle for Sound Mixing and Editing, as the Academy will never give an acting nomination for a voice-only performance.

We took our 3 year old son to see it last night and thought it was awesome. It was simply an awesome experience. The theater we saw it in seems to be dying off quickly. It's unfortunate, as it's the most conveniently located for us and it was one of *the* theaters to go to when it opened about 20 years ago. Combine that with the fact that we saw a rather early 6:40pm showing, there wasn't a whole lot of people in there with us. We had our pick of seats and the very few that were near us did nothing to spoil the experience.
As for the movie... I'm not sure how to compare it to anything else, but it was very well executed. I had wondered about the lack of dialog, right up until the early part of the movie. After that, we were so engaged in the movie that I never thought about it again. It just seems natural, even if a bit "cartoony". Our son obviously had no problem understanding what was going on. He was very concerned about Wall-e's new friend. I dunno. I love Cars. I love The Incredible. And I love Ratatoullie. I love our Pixar flicks. I already love WALL-E and will definitely be adding it to our collection. I don't know how to explain to Ben that he can't see it again until the DVD comes out.

It deserves an Oscar nomination (not for best animated film. That's a given). It deserves to be the second animated film to get a Best Picture nom. I saw it Friday & Saturday (5 times total. Just stayed & watched it 3 times one day, 2 the next). Only had to buy one ticket (they didn't tear it Friday). It would've been worth paying for admission though for every showing.

Saw it tonight with the wife and a theatre full of parents and kids, and amazingly, no one created a disturbance.
Great thing too, because this was a movie that just took my emotions to a new level. Boy, did I laugh, cry, get lost in the story. Thank you, Pixar, thank you... / 5

First off, I adored the film! It’s by far my favorite Pixar creation to date.
That said, could someone tell me . . .
The sound in the theatre wasn’t great, so I didn’t want to jump to a conclusion before asking. Either way . . . great film!
