hi hi hi
My turn!

It's nothing overly spectacular, but everything does great for me.

The System:

Sony DAV-S300
DVD/CD/receiver six speaker system

32" Sony WEGA FlatScreen TV
KV-32FS13 FD Trinitron®

Here's my set-up:

(yes... it's surrounded by stuffies. Just about every one that I've ever owned, been given, or found.)

Now..... here's the "Den". It's my combo Theater, Office, & Library.
(2 photos spliced together).

Ok... you'll see more of the stuffies. The system itself is actually in what was once a closet... I took the doors off & it fit great. My bookcases are on both walls.... you can see my front left/right channel speakers on the second shelves up. The sub is on the left side under the BWP poster. (The rear channel speakers are on the higher shelves behind my head, can't see in the photo). My big comfy chair is in the center of the room... in front of my desk,.. you can see my monitor at the bottom. This room has no windows, so it goes pitch black with the lights off. Great theater atmosphere! I'm on the top floor of an apartment building,... this room being over the stairwell,.... so when I crank up the DTS it really can't bother anyone (thankfully). You can't see it, but there's a huge Vanilla Sky poster on the ceiling. And, yes... that's a very cheesy Quidditch poster.... more on my Harry obsession below.

Here's my other baby. My little 16:9 Panasonic portable.

He basically lives by my bed.

Here's the link to my DVD Photo.... I'll try to work out a way to get a better shot sooner or later,.. but for now it suffices.

And just so you can make fun of me.... here's my main living room (with a wee TV & an older model Sony DVD Player) and Harry Potter shrine.

And... while we're at it.... here's me:

Cool beans. I especially like the pasted together/bastardized shot of the den.

Wow, and I thought *my* place was cramped!

(My favorite part? The DVDFile Forum is on the computer screen in the "reconstructed" photo. )

Very cool theater!

Neat!

Others have posted potential upgrades for their HT, do you have any pd?

Is it possible to get broadcast TV on that Panny portable DVD unit?

Well..... my on-going lust for a 16:9 plasma/lcd flatscreen aches for an upgrade.... but that's probably a while off. Everything else is going to have to hold me for a while.

There's no tuner in the little Panny.... but it does have an 'rca' type a/v input... so... i guess it's possible. I have run a VCR through it before.... (*coughporncough*)

Awesome stuff pdj

I could never watch TV with those damn South Park creatures staring at me though.

I'm noticing that a lot of us use cramped little rooms for our best stuff, even when we have other options. My mom thinks it's unhealthy...me having everything in my bedroom and the rest of the house empty. My living room, biggest room in the house consists of a loveseat and a wicker shelf unit. Good theft deterent I think

Well, in my house, it's because 1) I live in a bedroom of my parents' house but also 2)the bigger rooms aren't as forgiving dimensionally and accoustically. It's hard to find a big room that's relatively rectangular and has no big opnenings for sound to leak out of.

And 1138, I understood in your case. Mine just turned out this way because I used to have a 2nd TV in here, and gave that to my mom, so I decided I couldn't live without a TV in the bedroom and moved everything in

I didn't even consider acoustics. I doubt my 4 walls of 1970s style panelling would be considered appropriate

Forced to add another DVD case (AKA: I have no walls left!)

New case on the left side... empty:

And after spreading out the collection,... all cases have breathing room.

Collection as pictured: 1392.

Christ... I need therapy.

Awesome! You know, it doesn't look like _that_ many really. What you need is one of those fancy wall units with the multiple shelves that swing out & around each other, or something, perhaps I dreamed it.

Yeah, the whole overflow thing starts to get annoying after a while Especially when you have limited space to add more shelves.

Oh Goodness, is that an empty shelf I see on the far left? How did that happened? So how long would it take for you to fill that up?

Like your system. Way Cool PDJ!!!! I also share your on-going lust for a plasma tv however now I am considering a projector instead.

For now, I have to upgrade my receiver, which is very difficult since I keep spending that money on, what else but DVDs!

An attempted update to the collection photo....

(I've done some splicing/pasting to attempt a 'panoramic view' ....scale and stuff is probably a bit off... but it came out pretty good.)

Click on the small one to enlarge..... (appx 230K)

There are LOTR trailers hidden on Little Nicky and Rush Hour 2

They are in anamorphic and 5.1 too.

Hello PDJennings

Please do not take offence but something has been bugging me for a while now and I just have to ask you. Whilst your set up seems very reasonable you have a DVD collection worth a mimimum of $26,500 (and that's calculated at just $15 a DVD.) But the system you play them on is somewhat, well how can I put this without causing offence...It is somewhat less sophisticated than I might have expected for someone who has invested over $20,000 in software. It seems a strange one to me but then I have very different priorities. Just out of interest though - why not spend that $20,000 on an almighty system? Are you really ever going to be able to watch all those discs? Even if you were to watch one a day it would take you nearly 5 years to watch just what you have now!! It seems funny that you watch all those DVDs on a 32" TV and a tiny Sony mini-system!!

This is not a case of, 'DVD envy' I assure you as I am in the very fortunate position of having discs sent to me. I know what being in the position of having 1,000's of discs feels like but I could not justify spending that level of money. There are hundreds of discs I have that I will more than likely never see again. Just curious as to your rationale...

re: LOTR

Little Nicky has an Easter Egg to turn it into an Infinifilm title. Rush Hour 2 is already Infinifilm.

And both have the LOTR trailers.

PD Jennings: I don't know if you seen this in another thread, but can you post a close up JPG of that Nasa pic you got on the right side wall of your living room?

Tyler: Thanks for not turning your question into a jab or personal attack.

Instead on your remote push: Left arrow, Down arrow, and then Right arrow. This will take you to the movie. Click the skip button and you will see a blue bar across the bottom of the screen. Press on the highlighted areas to see a treasure trove of bloopers, shortcuts, outtakes, music videos, and a very strange scene between Allen Covert and Clint Howard that didn't quite make the film.

Go to special features and select deleted scenes. Once there Chubbs will start singing "It's all in the hips" DON'T PRESS ANYTHING. After Chubbs is done singing you'll be treated to a clip you'll have to see to believe.

This title is actually the first of the Infinifilm series, but not credited as so. Follow the same directions as mentioned to find the "Lord of the Rings" hidden trailer. (Special features menu and left click until hidden halo is revealed. Click for trailer. Once the trailer has played it will return to special features screen with the halo still lit up.
