mordac's home theatre

while it's not top end, as i piece it together, it makes me very happy...

TV: currently 27" Samsung, will be (very soon) either a Hitachi 43" Ultrascan HD or 50" Toshiba 50H71 TheaterView HDTV.

DVD: Apex 600-a (you know the one). great for most things, stutters on a select few disks, occasionally has a "high pitch whine" during playback.

Receiver: Sony's STR-DE835. i love it. DTS & DD, a few nice sound modes.

Speakers: Polk Audio RM6200 (with PSW250 subwoofer). Again, i love it. shoulda gone for a bigger sub (but that's also on the list of "things to upgrade").

VCR: does anyone really care?

PC: High end P4 with audio/video piped out to TV and surround system. delivers very nice high res divx playback.

COUCH: a sassy purple sectional from Ikea (highly recommended)

It just arrived...

my new Tosh 50H81. the techs took it apart to the bare bones and wires, moved it into my basement and re-assembled it (i know, i should've taken pictures, but i was too busy sweating and worrying).

instant buyers remorse. i couldn't believe i bought something this large and fancy (the phrase "conspicuous consumption" kept popping into my mind). as the hours passed into days, i got used to it (a new large tv definitely needs getting used to) and now (3 days later) i love it.

here's some pics... (i still need to remount my speakers on the walls, but you get the idea).

I think I would move that dart board though.

Yeah, the dart board is badly placed isn't it. I consider it a surrealistic art piece though, since i don't actually own any darts. never found them after we moved to the new house (and never got motivated enough to go buy new ones).

peace,

p.s. note the vintage 1977 Star Wars blanket on the couch. my wife keeps trying to throw it out, but i've convinced her that "the force" protected me on the couch growing up and now it's protecting my son. funny old thing life, ain't it.
